LADESSA.
“Why Desiree?” Kael asked him right away.
He didn’t even greet him.
“Finally, you asked! Now, make sure you don’t fucking drop the phone on me while I’m trying to explain.” Rasmus was talking too fast.
I understood him because whenever he called and attempted to speak Kael, Kael would hang up without hearing the rest of his speech. “Talk! I’m listening.” Kael said.
“I don’t know any Desiree! That woman I fucked was named Savannah. That was the name she gave me, and it was too fucking far from Desiree!”
“Why should I believe you?” Kael asked, and I tried to gauge his reaction if hearing Desiree fuck another man would elicit a foul reaction from him like he used to whenever this topic came between us at the early part of our marriage. But he was acting nonchalantly and
“For fuck’s sake, Kael, you should know better that I would never take any woman that had gone to bed with. I would never take any leftovers for my ego and for my sanity! If I knew she was the Desiree you were head over heels in love with…” His words were cut short because I couldn’t stop myself from coughing. I felt like choking.
The word “leftover” didn’t sit right with me. Desiree and I might not be on good terms, but I think I had to teach Rasmus a lesson not to describe women that way.
“Who’s that?” Rasmus asked.
A smile tugged at Kael’s mouth before he replied. “My wife.”
“Oh shit! Hi, Adessa. I apologize for my words. I didn’t mean to say he was head over heels with her. I was just exaggerating.” He explained in one breath, then he paused for a while before continuing while my eyes just got rounder listening to him. “Fuck, Kael! You should have told me your wife is with you! I don’t have plans to mess up your marriage!”
Kael motioned with his hand and mouthed that Rasmus didn’t know we were separated, and I just nodded my head.
“Wait, you found her.”
“Yes.”
“Does that mean I am forgiven? Or did I mess it up again with my big mouth?”
Kael shook his head and asked him another question. “Did Desiree know you were the infamous Alpha Rasmus?”
“No…” He let out a sigh. “I gave her a different name. I didn’t even tell her I was an Alpha. Man, I just passed that city and saw her in that bar. She was not marked, had no wedding or engagement ring, and was acting all single. She looked like fun, so I hooked up with her. We hit it off that night. I didn’t know anything about her. I didn’t even get to ask her what pack she belonged to, as I thought she was living in that city.”
Kael didn’t say anything.
“The next thing I knew, you came in like a fucking hurricane and threw me out on my ass.”
My hands clamped over my mouth as the image of a man butt naked being thrown out flashed in my mind, and I was trying not to laugh. I didn’t know this part, as Kael never really elaborated on the scene where he caught them. Kael looked at me, still smiling, before winking at me.
Why did he look so happy when he was speaking with the man with whom Desiree cheated?
“In my defense, I don’t go investigating women I hooked up with in the first hours of meeting them.” Rasmus was still talking nonstop. “She looked hot and ready to mingle. If I knew she was yours…”
“You can have her,” Kael told him, and it made me swallow hard.
Was he serious?
“No way, man. I’m good. It was just a one-night stand like the others, but if I knew she was…”
“It’s enough. Stop blubbering.”
“”You don’t believe me.”
“It doesn’t change anything, does it?”
“And why the fuck did you ask?”
“Nothing. We need entertainment. My wife is bored.” Kael sounded bored too. Or at least he was good at pretending he was.
“Fuck you,” Rasmus growled at him.
“Watch your mouth. I’m married to an angel. She doesn’t need to hear how filthy your mouth is.” Kael was talking calmly, while Rasmus was the exact opposite.
“I bet she’s an angel because that’s the only fucking reason she stays married to you. Or did she realize how evil you are, and she tried to run away?”
My eyes got rounder at their exchange, but if anything, Kael didn’t look pissed off at all. He was still smiling while shaking his head.
“I still haven’t forgiven you,” Kael told him flatly.
“The fuck, man. One year had gone by! You already have a good life and a good wife. What’s stopping you from moving on?”
“I don’t trust that you won’t go after my wife,” Kael said again, but this time he avoided looking at me.
“Hey! I made a mistake once, which was not even intentional, but it doesn’t mean I will run after all the women connected to you. But I must admit, Adessa is beautiful.” “Fuck you.” Kael snapped at him.
“What happened to watch your mouth? My wife is an angel?” Rasmus chuckled after he mimicked Kael’s voice.
“Touch my wife, and I’ll be the devil you’ll regret crossing.” He answered in a serious tone, and my heart fluttered.
I wasn’t sure if this was just for show, but I was enjoying the possessiveness and warning in his voice.
“I get it. I have no plans of taking her away from you. Can we move on from Desiree? She’s out of your life and not in mine, so…”
“I’ll think about it. I’ll call you again.” And just like that, Kael hung up the phone.
“I thought we were heading there. Why didn’t you tell him?” I asked.
“I don’t trust anyone.”
“And why are we going to his pack?”
“His mother. I’m not sure if you met Aunt Aria.”
I nodded as my smile got wider. “I met her at our wedding. Lovely, lovely woman!”
Aunt Aria was Kael’s mother’s sister and Rasmus mother. She was pleasant to be with and really charming. No wonder Rasmus was overhyped all the time because his mother was really bubbly and friendly. FindNovel
I had a fondness for Aunt Aria, but I liked her more because I knew she didn’t like Miranda. She actually warned me not to trust Miranda fully, as she liked stabbing people behind their backs. This was also the reason she never visited Kael often, as they never got along well.
“Can I tell you something? And please listen to me first before you decide if you’ll believe me or not.”
“Don’t tell me you killed more than two.” His forehead creased, but his lips twitched into a smile. “Do you need help in hiding more bodies?”
I bit my bottom lip to suppress my giggles before I spoke. “I’m serious here.”
“Talk then.”
I swallowed and tried to control the
erratic beating of my heart. But there was no turning back. He needed to know. “I believe Miranda was the one who sold me to Alpha Draco,” I said.
