Chapter 469 Cold Shoulder
“You should go to the hospital for a gastroscopy as soon as possible to confirm your condition. Don’t let it get worse over time.”
Josiah continued speaking on his own. “I’ve heard someone say before that the stomach is also an emotional organ. Sometimes, stomach pain doesn’t necessarily mean illness or improper diet as it could also be due to bad mood.”
“You were surrounded by admirers recently, with your glamorous appearance and a cute little sweetheart who cares about you. It doesn’t seem like you’re in a bad mood at all,” Lysander remarked.
Josiah furrowed his brows. “Dr. Thorne, your words can really sting.”
“Thanks for the compliment. I’ll be even more sharp in the future, so you better not come to me often.”
Josiah clicked his tongue. “You use and discard people, turning your back on them.”
Lysander immediately retorted, “When have I ‘used‘ you? Don’t talk nonsense.”
“Didn’t you use me for Old Mrs. Everhart’s matter?”
Lysander said nothing.
Josiah chuckled. “What do you think I meant by ‘use‘?”
This
person truly never let himself be at a disadvantage.
He was retaliate no matter what.
Anyway, after you go to the hospital, whatever the doctor says, follow it. Don’t eat what you’re not supposed to. Remember to follow the doctor’s advice.”
Josiah nodded.
Lysander stood up decisively. “Since you’re fine now, I’ll head back. I’ve enrolled in an online management course this afternoon…”
Josiah didn’t try to stop her but inquired, “Do you know about the construction summit happening in Apex City next week?”
Lysander turned back and replied, “Daphne mentioned it. Seems quite grand, doesn’t it?”
Josiah nodded in agreement, “Indeed. Many rising companies in the construction materials industry will attend. It’s a great opportunity for networking. Also, they’ve invited several industry veterans to give lectures. It’s worth attending.”
“But I might not understand the professional talks at such a summit.”
He always holds himself in high regard, so if he says it was worth attending, it must be substantial. He patiently explained, “I’ve attended a few before. This summit is organized by the Architectural Association, and it includes topics like nurturing new talents in the industry. It’s suitable for newcomers to network and

Josiah replied methodically, “If you’re really considering taking over Thorne Constructions and Energies, it’s worth going to broaden your horizons. At least, there’s no harm in it considering our families‘ relationship.”
“Okay, I’ll go and look for videos of past summits to see if it’s really worth attending. If it is, I’ll definitely go.”
Josiah found herself unexpectedly countered by her calm retort, but rather than being upset, he confidently responded, “If you’re really serious about learning, it’s best to make up your mind quickly. The summit has always been by invitation only. Without an invitation, no matter who you are, don’t even think about getting in.”
“An invitation is needed?”
“Otherwise, anyone could wander into the venue, right?” Josiah said, “Actually, it’s not hard to get an invitation. If you really want to go, you can join me. My seat is in the front row. As part of my entourage, your seat would be closer to the main stage.”
“I…” Lysander detected a hint of manipulation and cautiously replied, “I think I should first review past summits before deciding whether to attend or not.”
Josiah’s eyebrows furrowed in response. “Do you still have unfinished business here? You’ve bought the house, repaid the bank loan for Daphne, and with Old Mrs. Everhart’s return, her investment plans might be delayed. You should go to the hospital with her first.”
Lysander still had concerns. “What about Molly? Someone needs to stay with her to take shifts with her
caregiver.”
Josiah nodded and said, “Once I’m done with my current tasks, I’ll visit Mrs. Thorne myself.”
The next morning, Lysander brought flowers and went to the hospital.
She raised her hand and gently knocked on the door of the special care ward.
Howard opened the door, surprised to see Lysander. He was first stunned, then delighted. “Lysa, come in.”
Lysander nodded, hesitating as she asked, “Is she doing okay these days?”
On the hospital bed, Molly was lying unconscious peacefully, a testament to Howard’s dedicated care.
“She’s much better. She heard you asked me for money, and she happily finished a whole apple,” Howard said cheerfully.
Lysander nodded and instructed, “At this stage, it’s best for her not to eat too many apples.”
“Okay, I’ve got it,” he said.
Lysander found a vase, put the flowers she brought inside, then placed it on the bedside table.
Molly caught a whiff of the fragrance, and a slight smile appeared on her lips.
Feeling a pang in her heart, Lysander sat down on the chair beside the hospital bed and chatted with Howard for a while before bringing up her recent situation.

out, I’ll think of something else. Do you
have any instructions for me?”
Sensing her uncertainty, Howard encouraged her, “I didn’t have any experience when I was young, but I made it through, didn’t I? These things can’t be rushed. Take it step by step. Besides, your mom and I are here in the hospital. If you’re unsure about anything, feel free to come over anytime. And there’s always Josiah. With our families‘ relationship, he wouldn’t do anything too ruthless.”
“Okay.” Lysander felt more confident and asked, “By the way, do you know about the summit happening in Apex City next week?”
As the former head of Thorne Constructions and Energies, even though he had been in the hospital and stopped working for a long time, he hadn’t completely forgotten his past experiences. After a moment of contemplation, he said, “I know about this summit. I’ve attended a few times before. Do you want to go?”
Lysander pondered. “I’m not sure, Is this summit helpful for me at my current stage? I feel like it’s just an excuse from Josiah…”
“What excuse?”
Lysander shook her head. “Nothing. I just want to understand. If I go as a newcomer, will it be beneficial?”
“It definitely will be.” Howard held Josiah in high regard. “Those who receive invitations are not ordinary people. And the organizer of this summit truly values nurturing new talents in the industry. If you go, you’ll get to know more people.”
He knew Lysander had studied medicine and hadn’t dealt with business matters before. Thus, he patiently explained the importance of materials to the construction industry.
While Lysander didn’t fully understand, she was very attentive, preparing to digest it slowly later.
Lysander realized the significance of the summit from his explanation. “Okay, I’ll go take a look.”
Howard fully respected her decision. “It’s up to you.”
Lysander was about to ask if there was a way to get an invitation without going through Josiah when her phone vibrated.
Seeing it was a call from Carol, she answered it in front of her father.
Carol greeted Lysander as warmly as ever, “Ms. Thorne, I’ve arranged a same–city express delivery for you. It’s been sent out now and should arrive within an hour. Please take note.”
