Chapter 146 Not Showing Mercy
Dressed in a black suit, complete with a matching black boutonniere on his chest, it was clear that Josiah had rushed over directly from a funeral.
Upon catching sight of Josiah, Leo immediately ducked behind Howard and Molly.
Then, obediently, he nodded and called out, “Mr. Guerra.”
Josiah didn’t even spare him a glance. He simply greeted Howard and Molly. “Mr. Thorne, Mrs. Thorne.”
Howard felt a pang of guilt. “Josiah, I’m truly sorry. We should have been there for your grandmother’s. funeral today. No one could have predicted that something would come up with Lyss…”
Molly sat in her wheelchair, her heart and eyes filled with worry. She extended her hand toward Josiah. “Josiah..”
Josiah’s gaze rested on Lysander with concern until Molly tugged at his sleeve, bringing him back to the present. “Mr. Thorne, Mrs. Thorne. How did you know something had happened to Lysanne? Was it Leo who brought you here?”
As he spoke, his piercing gaze fell squarely on Leo’s face.
Leo was terrified, his face turning pale. He didn’t dare to make a sound, shrinking his neck and subtly shifting himself further behind the wheelchair.
Molly continued, “Josiah, we know how much you care for Lyss. We trust you to take good care of her. However, after all, Lyss is our child. We should have been informed about it…”
Josiah’s brow was tightly furrowed. It was unclear whether it was due to the lingering sorrow from his grandmother’s funeral or because of the unexpected complications arising from Lysander’s side.
Men tend to be more rational after all. While Molly was solely focused on chatting with Josiah, Howard, on the other hand, remembered the conversation they just had. “Josiah, did you just say the child in Lyss‘ belly isn’t yours?”
Josiah paused, uttering a soft, “Mhm.”
Molly was taken aback. “How could it be? It’s impossible. Your relationship with Lyss is so strong…”
“We-”
Lynn straightforwardly asked, “Madam, didn’t you watch the video online before you came?”
Molly had a baffled look on her face. “I saw it! They said there was a female doctor who wouldn’t leave Josiah alone. Lyss, heavily pregnant, came to confront them…”
“Is that all? Didn’t you check out the rest of the video?”
“There’s more? Leo, is there more to that video?”
Since the time Leo had arrived at Josiah’s banquet, he dared not utter a single word. No matter how much Molly interrogated him, he didn’t dare to speak another word.

Leo’s head dropped even lower, pleading, “Mr. Guerra, it was Lysanne. Lysanne told me to bring Aunt Molly and Uncle Howard over. It isn’t my doing..
Josiah’s frown deepened. “What else did she say?”
Leo remained silent.
“Speak!”
Leo shuddered, stammering. “Lysanne said… ever since Grandma Elisa’s incident, you’ve refused to see her. You wouldn’t even take her calls and she couldn’t find you at work or at home. She thought if Aunt Molly and Uncle Howard saw her pregnant and being mistreated, they, as elders, could speak to you on her behalf and maybe exert some pressure on you.”
Josiah was furious. “Didn’t she know that today was my grandmother’s funeral? Why did she have to cause trouble today of all days? Doesn’t she also know the state of Mrs. Thorne’s health? Isn’t she afraid that learning about this will worsen Mrs. Thorne’s condition? She just caused the death of my grandmother, and now she doesn’t even care about her own mother’s health?”
Leo was so berated that he didn’t dare to retort, “Mr. Guerra, Lysanne was just afraid of losing you. Actually, the real troublemaker is that doctor. If she hadn’t barged in and married you, things wouldn’t have been so complicated.”
“Trouble? What do you mean by trouble? She went overseas to get married and have children, and I’m supposed to wait for her here like a monk in penance for a lifetime? Then, the moment she returns, I’m expected to gratefully pick up the pieces, raising another man’s child. Is that what you call no trouble?”
No words escaped Leo’s lips.
“Also, I’m going to use the opportunity today to clarify this in front of Mr. and Mrs. Thome. I am married. Dr. Lysander and I are legally wedded spouses, protected by law. Lysander is not the home wrecker you all make her out to be. If you or Lysanne dare to trouble Lysander again, don’t blame me for not showing
mercy.
