Chapter 1343
What could have driven such an optimistic and resilient woman down this path of no
return?
Susan glanced at Thalassa and Astrid, a satisfied smirk on her face as she continued, “Just before Evelyn died, she got a call that shook her to the core, sent her running straight toward a running truck. Want to know who she was talking to? What was said?”

By now, Thalassa and Astrid were so grief-stricken they were practically catatonic.
They had no interest left to deal with Susan.
Without waiting for a response, Susan played the voicemail on her phone. The call had been from her mother, Lucy.
She had been right there, making sure Lucy’s words were recorded.
The playback of Lucy’s last conversation with Evelyn started, every word loud and clear.
Lucy accused Evelyn of seducing Bruce and shamelessly sleeping with him. Then she dropped the bombshell.
Bruce had AIDS!
At the mention of AIDS, Evelyn’s sobs became audible over the recording-despair, and then the sound of a phone smashing to the ground. The shattering noise was quickly followed by the screeching brakes of a vehicle and the ear-piercing skid of tires on asphalt.
Hearing this, Thalassa trembled, her lips quivering. She felt utterly drained of strength.
Even though she wasn’t Evelyn, just listening to that recording made her feel the desperation and agony that Evelyn must have felt.
Why wasn’t she by her mother’s side? If she had been there, she could have offere warmth and comfort, helping her mother through the ordeal.
Evelyn might not have met such a horrific end.
Thalassa’s body swayed, and she collapsed into a chair.
“Mommy, are you okay?” Her two kids, seeing Thalassa’s distress, gathered around her, their little hands gripping hers.
The other children surrounded Astrid, who was equally shocked and seated, their tiny hands trying to lend her some warmth.
Susan was relentless, hurling one revelation after another, with no regard for her own
parents.

Chapter 1343
“Do you know why Evelyn stepped out into the road? Because she was vilified by everyone, pointed at and called shameless. My dad had posted a picture of her from when she was younger, in bed with him, along with text saying she seduced him. This clip went viral instantly. Wherever Evelyn went, she was met with scorn.”
“Though Lysander have had the video removed from all platforms, my dad had a copy on his phone. Thalassa, take a look.” Susan stepped closer, thrusting her phone in front of Thalassa.
Just the sight of that photo was enough to stab at Thalassa’s eyes.
Watching the video, her already trembling heart fractured further, tightening with unbearable pain.
“Do you know what drove my dad to release the video? It was Lysander taking Evelyn to the police station to identify my dad for fraud. Funny thing is, my dad had indeed swindled Evelyn out of a vast fortune. Because of her testimony, he was convicted. Knowing he was done for, he asked me to release the prepared text and video online. Little did we expect the video to catch fire like it did, turning Evelyn into a target for public
hatred.”
“Stop!” Thalassa roared in anguish. She couldn’t bear to listen anymore.
But Susan was far from done.
“Why do you think Lysander had the video taken down from everywhere? He was the one who pushed Evelyn to testify against my dad. He didn’t think twice about her safety, not even bothering to escort her home, leaving her to fend for herself. That’s what led to this tragedy, isn’t it?”
“Stop it! Get out, you’re not welcome here!” Atticus couldn’t take it anymore. He stood up, his small frame rigid as he pointed to the door, his young voice loud and angry.
