The next day. Alyssa woke up feeling pretty upbeat. She got busy tidying up her stuff because after grabbing the license with Andrew, sticking around here just wouldn’t cut it.
Marrying Andrew and continuing to live with Sean was a no–go. Even if she didn’t shack up with Andrew, she knew she needed a change of scenery,
She took a moment to gaze at the house the one her dad gifted her for her birthday. She had called it home for ages, and now, she was about to leave.
She chuckled to herself and took a deep breath. ‘No biggie – I’d reclaim the house eventually. For now, it’s just a temporary crash pad for the Rivera family
Alyssa was determined to take it back, with a little extra on top, when the time was right. Grabbing her suitcase, she headed for the door.
The dining table was still a mess from the night before last night’s dinner, and with the summer heat, the leftovers were beginning to emit a sousmell.
After leaving. Alyssa dialed up her bestie, Gaia. “Hey, can I crash at your place for a bit?” she asked.

Gaia was in the middle of work, whispering into the phone, “What’s up? Trouble with Sean?”
“No came Alyssa’s soft reply. “We split.”
“No way!” Gaia’s shock was audible. She quickly lowered her voice again. “Hold on. Let me sneak outside so we can talk properly. It’s like a library in here.”
The bustling background noise filled the brief silence, only for Caia to practically yelp, “You’re not messing with me, are you? You and Sean are really done?”

“Yep, Alyssa confirmed, her voice still gentle. On the other end of the line, Gaia couldn’t contain her excitement. This is fantastic! You’re finally free! No more playing housemaid every day or pandering to Sean’s mom and sister. Now you can come with me for some nice food and movies. I can’t remember the last time I did that
Listening to Gaia, Alyssa felt a bittersweet feeling washing over hier. So, to everyone else, she had been nothing more than the live–in help at Sean’s, a reality she had been blind to until now.
Just as Alyssa was about to say something, an icy voice on the phone cut her off. “Gaia, sneaking off during work? Forget about your bonus this month.
Quick to defend herself, Gaia countered, “Mr. Moore, I was just answering a call. I swear it wasn’t even two minutes.
“Hit up a nice restaurant and the movie theatre for some quick videos after work,” the frosty voice ordered.
Begrudgingly, Gaia muttered, “Fine
“Make me a coffee when you get back,” he ordered, and Alyssa could hear his footsteps trailing off.
Gaia couldn’t help but seethe, “Ugh, this damned capitalist, making me slog all day.”
Alyssa listened to all this, eyebrow quirked. She felt Gaia’s boss was somewhat obsessed with her, but Gaia seemed ignorant. Thinking back, she remembered pushing Cala away because of something Hailey had said, regretting not seeing the situation for what it was sooner. But now, she’s had a change of heart.
Tll crash here for a bit, just till I sort out my own place, Alyssa proposed.
