The room is silent, except for my heavy breathing because I am freaking the fuck out. I know Eros didn’t want me to speak to her alone, but it would be rude to refuse to.
“My family are very important to me, Alexis,” she says, and I nod.
“I can totally understand that, and I can understand if you have reservations and worries about me, especially because of what my line of work is. Anyone would be, especially if they haven’t been involved. in the industry, to know about it,” I explain.
“You’re right. I have reservations and worries, and I have no idea how the industry works. I would like to know why. What was your reason for joining it?” She looks at me and waits.
I’m best being honest, I’ve no idea what Eros has told her or what will be said, but I know me being divorced won’t help with her liking me at all. Neither will the debt I used to be in.
“I married young; by the age of twenty, my husband had run up large amounts of debt and disappeared with the money. “It was, to begin with, but the longer you’re in there the more the cracks show. The abuse happened towards the younger or quieter workers because they were too afraid to stand up for themselves. The industry lost its appeal, but that was down to working conditions,” I explain, and she nods.
I wait for her to speak, and the silence lasts too long. I can feel it burning my bones, and my mind is on overdrive, thinking and considering every tiny detail.
“How safe is the industry?” She asks. I go to ask her in which aspect. she means, but I decide to answer all of them, and then she knows.
“Workers have to have health checks frequently. Proof of contraception must be shown as well. The women in the industry should be safe, but each company is different, they operate their own rules, and such. The one I was at, wasn’t run by a man with morals, someone had to speak up for the women who were too afraid to,” I say.

“She is an unfortunate case but something that does happen. She knew the person who ran the place since she was a child, and he took advantage of that.” I still want to find him and hurt him, but that’s a bit hard, considering he’s surrounded by metal bars.
“And my son?” she asks. “How did that happen? How did you two meet?”
My mouth opens and closes. I don’t want to tell her because it paints Eros as a bad man, and he isn’t. Still, I know Eros doesn’t lie and is brutally honest. I just don’t want her to think of him in a bad way. Sure, he is her son, but he was essentially paying for me.
“My contract with my manager stated I had to do work if they were producing and editing it. Eros was the first time that I realised that that line in the contract could be used to manipulate women. We usually work with other porn stars, those who work as I did and get paid. Eros, was the exception, he was paying to shoot a video with me,” I explain and her eyes widen.
She looks angry, and I need to defend him.

“I can see you like him Alexis, through all our conversations you have. defended him more than yourself, that is interesting,” she replies and I nod.
“I will fight for those I care about. I can live with people’s thoughts of me, but I won’t allow people to look at those close to me in a bad way; I will defend them.”
She smiles and nods.
“Has Eros mentioned his father?” she asks, and my head shakes. quickly. He’s not really spoken much about his family.
“Your ex–husband and his father had a lot in common,” she laughs. “We were happily married for years. When Eros was sixteen, he left. We had a prenup, I went into that marriage with nothing, and I left with nothing, despite me working twelve hours a day on his business and expanding it drastically. He left me and the kids with nothing; he threw us out of the house and everything,” she says, and I sit shocked.
How could he leave her with nothing when she helped build the business? “I’m sorry, I didn’t know that,” I say.

“It’s fine; legally, I couldn’t fight it. I always got paid for the work I did. It meant I had no fight because he had paid me as an employer. Eros, bless his sweet soul, had been saving up for something, he took that forty pounds, and turned it into one hundred, and offered me it.” She sighs loudly and looks around the room.
“He’s not a bad man. I know the papers make him out to be because he is always changing money, but those women as Kacy said, weren’t right for him in one way or another. Many were here for the money, they didn’t fight for him like you do, or defend him so ruthlessly. Just be sure this is what you want before he gives his heart to you, he doesn’t trust a lot of people, it may seem like he does, but he doesn’t.” she explains and stands.
“I won’t hurt him,” I say, and she nods and smiles.
“Alexis, I watched and realised you wouldn’t instantly. You want to protect him, not just from himself but from the view others may have over your past. I know you won’t,” she hugs me.
“He thinks I am going to scare you away. I have done that in the past, but to me, if they can’t defend my son and stand up for their relationship, they aren’t worthy of him. We should go back through so he knows you’re not running,” she smiles, and we begin to walk back to where they are.
