Chapter 163: Preparing for Court!
“Ahhh!”
She flailed in panic.
As if the mouse was crawling all over her.
It wasn’t until Cassius held her hands that she finally calmed down.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
Tears streamed down her face from fright.
Back in the mountains, mice were common.
She hadn’t been afraid of them at first.
But then, she encountered a mouse as big as an adult Maine Coon cat in the mountains and was bitten by it..
Ever since then, she had been terrified of mice.
“I’ll have someone come and clear out the mice. Don’t worry, you won’t see them again.”
Gemma slowly let out a breath.
She waved her hand.
“It’s fine, it’s just a reflex.”
“Suburbia meets agriculture–the rodent equation writes itself. Even with Tier 1 pest control, we’d still be negotiating surrender terms with field
mice.”
“Once this area is fully relocated and there’s no food left, the mice will naturally leave.”
She sat back down on the soft mat.
“Just for the record. I’m tired, not weak in the knees.”
Cassius, “…”
By the time Gemma returned to the hospital, it was almost the end of her shift.
She was on night duty today, so she needed to hand over patient details to her colleagues.
After finishing her tasks, she headed to Vincent’s ward.
Stella had gone out to buy something, so the room was empty except for the old man. Only a bedside lamp was on, casting a long shadow of the hospital bed.
It looked incredibly lonely.
“Stella, you can go back. I’m fine. I’ll check out tomorrow.”
The old man was looking out the window and only heard the door open, thinking his granddaughter had returned.
But when he got no response, he found it strange and turned around.
“It’s you?”
A flash of displeasure crossed Vincent’s eyes.
“Why are you here?”
“I’m your attending physician.”
*Or not. I’ll request a change tomorrow.” The old man seemed genuinely angry, lying back down and pulling the blanket over his face.
His entire demeanor screamed one word–stubborn.
Gemma finally understood what it meant to be an “old child.”
“Oh, so you’re that angry, huh?”
“Then I guess you won’t like the chess set I brought either. I’ll just leave.”
The old man’s DNA kicked in.
“You know how to play?”
Gemma pretended to hesitate. “Tin okay, just a beginner.”
The old man sat up.
“Come here, play a game with me.”
“But no, I’m not your attending physician anymore. I need to take care of other patients.”
The old man looked utterly incredulous.

This girl really knew how to push her luck.
“I haven’t replaced you yet. You’re still responsible for me!”
Gemma walked over with a smile. “Alright then, but make sure to replace me soon, okay?”
Vincent: “…” Kids these days….they got sharp tongue.
Outside the ward.
Shawn looked like he’d seen a ghost, turning to Cassius.
“Cass, your old man actually has a soft side?”
He had always thought the old man was like a war machine, only knowing how to fight and kill.
Who would’ve thought!
All it took was a few words from Dr. Kelestine.
And the old man turned into a softie.
What did all those beatings he endured count for?
Proof of his good endurance?
Cassius didn’t want to disturb them, so he turned and walked to the nearby lobby.
“Cass, you’ve seemed in a good mood ever since you got back today.”
The curve of Cassius’s lips straightened.
His aloof aura was back in full force.
Shawn, “…”
He wanted to ask for details, but his phone rang.
After the call, his eyes lit up.
“Cass, good news! Derick plans to buy the shares.”
“Even though the stock is low right now, paying five times the market price is really not worth it.”
“Where did he suddenly get the funds?”
Cassius frowned slightly.
Before he could ponder further, Shawn got another update.
And this one was explosive.
“Cass, you’ll never guess!”
Cassius asked, “Wilson Group?”
Wait! How?
Being this smart just makes me look dumb, okay?
He resignedly explained.
“Here’s the deal. The Ravens are preparing to collaborate with Wilson Group. Wilson’s best asset is their smart chips.”
“Many systems were developed by Wilson, and they dominate a huge share of the domestic market.”
“Once the shares are bought, this news will be released.”
“At that point, both Raven and Wilson stocks will rise.”
Shawn felt a headache coming on and rubbed his temples.
He felt like he was developing permanent frown lines.
Cassius opened the window, letting in the cold breeze to clear his mind.
“They want to reshuffle the deck and shape the business world as they see fit.”
Shawn suddenly understood.
“If that’s the case, we need to take action sooner.”
Cassius nodded.
“It’s time to end this.”
Shawn lowered his gaze.
Back when you agreed to the demolition, had you already anticipated this day?”
‘Once this is over, Ms. Evan can finally rest in peace, right?”
To put it bluntly, Vincent had refused to let his daughter be buried all these years, partly to keep her memory alive and partly to make sure Evangeline saw the downfall of that scumbag.

Once that was done, perhaps Cassius and Vincent’s relationship could improve.
Cassius looked into the distance, a cold aura spreading around him. “Yes, let’s do it.”
The autumn wind was bleak.
A sense of solemnity filled the air.
On the day of the trial.
Marcus arrived at the scene with Mabel.
“I’ve already made it clear to you. I saved your life. Let’s not bring up that matter again.”
Mabel had put on heavy makeup, but it couldn’t hide her exhaustion.
“Max, do you really feel nothing for me…”
Marcus sighed.
“I’ve told you, if you ever need help in the future, you can come to me.”
After a pause, he added,
“Just like those first two years after you returned to the country, wasn’t that good?”
Mabel shook her head.
No!
Of course not!
In those first two years, Marcus had been filled with guilt and had been completely obedient to her, even abandoning Gemma.
But now, her presence had faded, and his feelings had dried up.
She feared that soon, her position would be swapped with Gemma’s.
She would be the one heartbroken and hysterical.
While Gemma remained calm and composed.
“Alright, don’t cry. Otherwise, you can’t attend the trial.”
Marcus’s expression darkened as he prepared to get out of the car.
Mabel quickly wiped her tears.
“No, it’s fine. I won’t cry. I just… I can’t bear to lose you.”
Marcus patted her hand.
“Alright, I’ll get out first. Wait a bit before you come down. Don’t let anyone see us arriving together, understand?”
Mabel nodded reluctantly.
Seeing her finally behave, the gloom on Marcus’s face lifted.
“Don’t worry. Gemma won’t give you a hard time in the future.”
Mabel gritted her teeth but couldn’t lash out.
After Marcus left, she checked her phone. The reporter she had contacted earlier was already in position. She wasn’t in a hurry to get out of the car.
