Chapter 66: A Mistress, When Used Right, Could Be a Scumbag’s Bombshell
Mabel’s current apartment? Marcus bought it.
The door code was their anniversary
Marcus came and went as if it were his own place.
He carried Mabel to the couch and gently patted her cheek
“Mabel, wake up. Have some water.”
Half–awake, Mabel squinted at him. Something seemed to click in her mind, and she suddenly sat up.
“Marcus, you haven’t had dinner yet, have you? I’ll cook for you.”
He pushed her back down. “No need. I’m not hungry.”
“No! I already prepped everything–it’ll just take a minute to heat up.”
She got up and headed to the kitchen. She reheated the dishes she had prepared, adding a pinch of powder to the pot j before serving.
Marcus often humored her by staying for meals. After all, she was a part of his youth.
They loved reminiscing, laughing at how foolish they’d been back then.
“Marcus.”
Mabel slid closer after noticing he’d eaten a lot. Her eyes sparkled, her breath warm and sweet.
“I truly loved you back then. I wanted to spend my whole life with you.
Marcus, I still love you.”
She grabbed his hand and placed it on her chest.
His gaze deepened.
Her soft curves trembled under his palm, teasing hus senses.
Seizing the moment, Mabel climbed onto his lap, wrapping her arms tightly around him, her lips closing the distance.
This time, he didn’t push her away.
That night, passion ignited
The next morning.
Marcus stirred awake, thinking he was at home.
Half–asleep, he reached out to pull the woman next to him closer–only to freeze when he saw her face.
It wasn’t Gemma
His expression hardened.
As much as he wanted to deny it, the marks on Mabel’s exposed skin told the story of his guilt..
Groaning, he rubbed his temples, hoping it was all a bad dream
But when he opened his eyes again, Mabel was awake, gazing at him with a tenderness that made his heart sink.
Last night.. with Mabel…
How could he?
Mabel had actually been awake for hours.
Truthfully, she hadn’t slept at all. She’d been too thrilled.
The man she’d longed for had finally succumbed to her.
Now, playing the part of a fragile, exhausted woman required no acting skills.
Completely bare, she slipped out of the covers and threw herself into his arms.

“Marcus, you really do still love me. Last night, you…”
Her voice faltered, shyly finishing her sentence.
“You were so… intense. I can barely move now. Could you order breakfast for me?”
Marcus frowned deeply,
He was still trying to piece together what had happened.
Last night, he’d planned to leave early to explain everything to Gemma.
Ideally, he would’ve spent the night with her.
So how had he ended up in Mabel’s bed?
Tears rolled down Mabel’s cheeks, landing on his shoulder.
“You got divorced. Yesterday, I got too happy, drank too much, and almost got assaulted. You showed up just in time to save
ΠΕ
You brought me back, and after dinner, you hugged me, and then…”
She sobbed, trembling as she spoke. In the process, the crimson stain beneath her caught his eye, stealing his breath.
His phone buzzed incessantly.
A call from one of his senior managers–probably about a meeting.
Annoyed and overwhelmed, he was in no mood handling business stuff.
He ignored it, letting it ring out or pressing decline
He rubbed his temples again
How to tell Mabel he wasn’t actually divorced and still wanted to work things out with Gemma?
Last night, he’d planned to save her, then clarify things.
So how had everything gone so wrong?
Mabel, noticing his silence, stood up.
Her legs trembled with each step, and she had to steady herself against the cabinet.
“Where are you going?”
Marcus couldn’t help but ask. Pulling on his pants, he grabbed his coat and wrapped it around her.
Tears streamed down her face.
“L. I don’t know.”
She looked utterly lost.
“I don’t know if you’ll ever forgive me. I know I did something unforgivable before.
Maybe.. maybe you need some time. I’ll go wait in the living room.”
But as she spoke, she broke down, covering her face as she sobbed uncontrollably.
“Marcus, I don’t mind giving myself to you. I’m just scared.. scared you’ll hate me for it.
Please, don’t say anything too harsh. I promise I won’t pester you.”
I know you just got divorced. You probably want some freedom, and I get that. I really do.
You don’t have to worry about me. I’ll just go…”
Marcus hadn’t seen her cry like this in years. E
very tear felt like it was hammering into his chest.
Before he could think, the words slipped out.
“I’m divorced now, so I’ll take responsibility. You don’t have to leave.”
He pulled her into his arms.
A flicker of joy lit Mabel’s face.

Marcus just admitted he was divorced!
That meant he hadn’t avoided court because he didn’t want to go–he’d simply been delayed.
“Marcus. I’ve waited so long
I love you. Marcus.”
Her voice was soft and sweet. “You said you’d take responsibility, right? I’m hurting so much can you help me?”
Marcus tightened his grip on her slim waist.
What harm was there in keeping an old flame?
As long as Gemma never found out, everything would be fine.
Besides, Gemma was a workaholic; she’d never notice.
And Ali adored Mabel.
Wasn’t this better than hiring a stranger as a nanny?
As long as he ensured Mabel stayed in her place, Gemma’s status wouldn’t be threatened
With that thought, his unease vanished.
A sly smile crept across his lips as he scooped Mabel into lus arms, placing her back on the bed,
“Don’t worry. I’ll take care of y
you
Η
Mabel blushed and turned her head shyly. “Be gentle.”
“I will
I
“Liar. I said that last night too, and look what happened…”
Her cheeks reddened further, almost glowing
Marcus couldn’t resist her allure and leaned in again.
Mabel, triumphant, felt nothing but happiness
She was so glad her tricks worked in the end.
Outside the courthouse, Gemma had made it clear she no longer wanted a divorce
Mabel had panicked.
If that were true, all her efforts would’ve been for nothing
She could accept losing, but not to some small–town g
girl like Gemma!
So, she’d spent a fortune obtaining Marcus’s itinerary. The moment Gemma’s taunting text arrived, Mabel had orchestrated. her plan, pulling Marcus away.
Now, she could imagine Gemma fuming with rage.
