Chapter 17: You Caused All This Chaos Just to Remarry Me
The situation unfolded so suddenly.
On the shaky bridge, people were screaming, and chaos took over.
Gemma clung tightly to Noah, while Brian grabbed her arm. The three of them were jostled back and forth by the panicking crowd, nearly falling into the water.
Luckily, rescue teams arrived just in time.
Some stabilized the bridge, others cleared the crowd, and they managed to get to safety.
“A kid fell into the water. Good thing it’s not deep.”
“Hey, isn’t that a celebrity?”
“Yeah, I remember now! She graduated from medical school and later became an actress!
“Look at her–she’s hurt but still giving first aid!”
“Such a beauty, and so kind–hearted.”
Gemma noticed a group of people huddled nearby, surrounding someone who seemed to have swallowed water and was receiving CPR
As a doctor, she couldn’t ignore it. She immediately stepped forward.
“Brian, let’s go see if we can help.”
Brian nodded, holding Noah in his arms. “Alright.”
They pushed through the crowd, and when Gemma saw what was happening, her face turned pale.
It was Alijah.
Just moments ago, this boy was lively and even spreading rumors about her. Now, he was lying on the ground, his face pale and bluish, clearly in bad shape.
Mabel, soaking wet, was kneeling on the ground trying to perform CPR, but her broken arm was severely limiting her
movements.
“I’ll do it!”
Gemma yanked her away to take over, but Mabel grabbed her wrist.
“Ali doesn’t even like you! He wouldn’t want your help!”
Lives were on the line, especially that of her own son
Even though Gemma had been disappointed in Alijah, the bond of blood was undeniable. Anxiety consumed her, and she couldn’t waste another second.
Without hesitation, she pushed Mabel aside and picked up Alijah.
Though Gemma wasn’t particularly strong, Mabel dramatically fell to the ground, conveniently landing at Marcus’s feet.
“Marcus, I’m sorry. I didn’t expect Gemma to use her own son for a publicity stunt.”
“I tried to stop her, but I couldn’t.”
“Marcus, Ali is fine. What she’s doing might suffocate him!”
When Alijah fell into the water amidst the chaos, Marcus hadn’t reacted in time.
Mabel, despite her broken arm, had immediately jumped in to save him.
Meanwhile, Gemma had been playing with Brian, oblivious to Alijah’s plight.
“Gemma, stop. Ali doesn’t need you.”
Marcus’s expression was dark and stormy.
His fists clenched tightly when he saw Brian assisting with the CPR, veins bulging on his temples.
Gemma ignored him, working with Brian to press the water out of Alijah’s lungs.

Finally, Alijah burst into loud cries.
“What did you do to him?”
Marcus stormed over and snatched Alijah from Gemma’s arms.
But Gemma just exhaled in relief.
Crying meant the airway was clear–he was going to be okay.
Mabel hugged Alijah tightly, tears streaming down her face. “Ali, you scared Auntie to death! Are you alright?” Alijah’s crying gradually subsided as he looked around in confusion.
“All…”
Gemma stepped forward instinctively.
The moment Alijah saw her, his cries grew louder again.
me near me!”
“You only play with other kids and ignore me! I hate you! Don’t come near
As he spoke, the image of Gemma holding Noah flashed through his mind, fueling his anger even more.
“I don’t want a mom like you! I want Mabel!”
With that, he buried himself in Mabel’s arms
Gemma froze in place
Right.
He had said it before–he didn’t want her as his mom
She had been fooling herself.
Still, she didn’t regret saving him.
It was her duty as a doctor.
Taking a deep breath, she forced a smile. “Alright. As long as you’re okay, that’s all that matters.”
Turning to Brian, she steadied her voice. “Let’s go.”
With nothing else to watch, the crowd quickly dispersed.
“Wait!”
Mabel’s voice rang out suddenly.
“Gemma, you owe Alijah an apology.”
As soon as those words left her mouth, Gemma couldn’t help but laugh in exasperation.
She’d saved a life, didn’t even get a “thank you,” and now they wanted her to apologize?
“Do you even hear yourself right now?”
Mabel let out a cold snort.
“If you hadn’t been so focused on someone else’s kid, how would All have been pushed aside?”
What the hell?
Was accusing someone without evidence the trend these days?
Alijah, as if hit where it hurt most, cried even harder, completely inconsolable,
Mabel, as though heartbroken, continued her scolding.
cify
“It’s fine if you
want to date someone else, but you’re still Ali’s mother! How could you ignore your own child to fawn over
someone else’s?”
Gemma retorted, “Ignore him? Then why did I save him?”
“Probably because you were afraid your conscience wouldn’t let you rest.”
Alijah cried out, “I don’t want her anymore! I’ll never want her again!”
One accusing, the other crying–it was a full–blown trial against Gemma.

eing her son twist the truth like this chilled her to the bone.
Seeing
“Well, if that’s what you want, there’s nothing I can do.”
Mabel froze. “You’re admitting you hurt Ali?”
Gemma let out a cold laugh and withdrew her gaze from Alijah.
“If you truly believe I hurt someone intentionally, call the police. But if you continue slandering me, I reserve the right to pursue a defamation case.”
Mabel was stunned into silence.
Of course, she had no intention of calling the police–this was all about stirring up trouble..
Marcus, however, stepped in, his expression dark and full of impatience.
“Call the police? So, this whole scene you’ve caused today–was it planned in advance?”
Gemma countered, “What nonsense are you spouting now?”
Marcus only felt like she was acting out of desperation after being exposed.
He sneered.
“You might try to catch my attention, but you should never use Ali! He’s y
your own son!”
For the first time, Gemma realized that extreme anger can leave you utterly speechless.
Marcus pressed on.
“You used to be pure and kind–how did you become so calculating?”
“Acting like this won’t win me back. It only makes you even more unreasonable!”
Gemma was stunned by the sheer absurdity of his logic.
Then, feeling slightly embarrassed, she glanced at Brian
She wasn’t thinking much–just that this whole scene was humiliating.
Brian had surely figured out their relationship by now and must be laughing inside, wondering how she ever married such an idiot.
It was mortifying
“Fine, then call the police.”
Gemma decided she couldn’t reason with them anymore, so she might as well cut to the chase.
Marcus’s
face turned even darker, and he barked at her in a cold voice.
“Are you not humiliated enough today? How far are you planning to take this? Gemma, don’t make me despise you!”
