Yvette and Noah stood outside. She was a breathtaking beauty, while her son was an adorable little boy. He looked like he had stepped straight out of a comic book. Someone sneaked a look at them, noting how much Noah resembled Xavier.
Noah noticed the unfriendly glances and frowned slightly. As expected, there wasn’t a decent person in his bastard father’s family.
“Mom, I need to pee,” Noah said.
“Alright, I’ll take you,” Yvette replied. With that, she led him to a nearby washroom.
Once there, Noah said, “Mom, you should go back and wait for Mr. Xavier. Otherwise, he might not find us when he comes out. I remember the way; I’ll come find you later.” Yvette saw that the washroom wasn’t far, so she agreed. “Okay, if you can’t find me, just call.” Noah and Zachary both carried smartwatches with them.
“Alright.” Noah nodded repeatedly and headed into the men’s washroom.
Meanwhile, in the main hall, most of Xavier’s relatives were present. However, Jeremiah was nowhere to be seen.
Zayden had just been discharged from the hospital. He kept his head down, avoiding Xavier’s gaze.
He’d tried to harass Yvette at the engagement party, only to be thrown into an icy river by Xavier. He’d nearly frozen and drowned.
Marlene had even almost divorced him over it. He’d had to make all sorts of promises before she’d relented. Thinking about all this, Zayden clenched his fists.
When he heard the others mention that Yvette had brought a child back, he immediately sent Marlene to check it out.
When Marlene went outside, she only saw Yvette waiting alone, her demeanor cool and elegant. Marlene couldn’t deny that Yvette was indeed more beautiful than her.
A flicker of cold hatred crossed her eyes as she thought of Zayden’s impure intentions. With an air of haughty superiority, she stepped forward in her high heels. “Yvette Snyder. I never thought that after I helped you, you’d frame my husband.” She was referring to the time she’d mentioned to Yvette that Xavier had a twin brother. But as for framing?
Yvette looked at Marlene’s proud face and felt only pity. “Marlene, it’s so easy to find out what your husband got up to at the party, even without you being there. All you have to do was ask around.” “My husband was drunk. Do you think he’d be interested in a deaf woman like you?” Marlene sneered.
Yvette was no longer the pushover she used to be. Her eyebrows arched slightly. “Are you suggesting that Zayden got carried away after drinking?”
“What nonsense are you talking about?” Marlene snapped, raising her hand to strike Yvette.
But Yvette was quick and grabbed Marlene’s wrist. “Did I say something wrong? If I’m wrong, then he must have had bad intentions all along Why aren’t you keeping him in check instead of coming to lecture me?”
With that, she flung Marlene’s hand away. “I appreciate you warning me about Jeremiah earlier. So I won’t hold this against you today. But if you tryto lay a hand on me again, don’t blame me for fighting back.”
Marlene stumbled back a few steps. She was about to say something more when a sharp voice cut through the air. “What are you doing out here?”
It was Shannon. Zoey was with her as well.
She’d heard that Noah had come along as well, and she’d wanted to see the child. But all she saw was her daughter-in-law pushing away Marlene, Dominic’s daughter-in-law.
Although Shannon didn’t like Yvette,
she knew how to protect her own. Yvette was her daughter-in-law, and only she could bully her. The fact
that her brother-in-law’s family had dared to bully Yvette was absurd.
QUMS
“Marlene, Malcolm has been causing trouble around Dad. Shouldn’t you go take care of him?”
“Yes,” Marlene replied, somewhat afraid of Shannon.
