Yvette tensed up and anxiously tried to get out of Jeremiah’s arms. “I’m already married.”

Her eyes were filled with panic, and he could tell how much she was resisting him. His heart skipped a beat, and he only pulled his hands back after a long while. There was a lonely look in his eyes. “Then, can we still be friends in the future?”

Yvette calmed down and looked at him. Then, she said softly, “Yeah. Not only are we friends now, but we’re family as well. I’ll attend your engagement.”

“Alright. I’ll wait for you.” Jeremiah forced out a smile.

“If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving now.”

Then, Yvette walked away in the snow. Jeremiah stood still next to the car as he watched her leave him slowly. It felt like she was buried under the snow at that moment.

Meanwhile, Jackie thought it was weird that Jeremiah hadn’t returned to the office yet. It was the first time that she’d no idea where he was, so she couldn’t resist calling him. “Where are you now, Mr. Jeremiah?”

He’d already gotten back into his car. “I’m dealing with something outside, so I won’t be going back to the office today.”

“But we have an appointment tonight-“

“Cancel it.”

Jackie had taken care of Jeremiah for at least a decade. She could tell something was wrong from his tone. “Mr. Jeremiah, if there’s something on your mind, please don’t keep it to yourself. You can tell me about it, and I promise I won’t tell anyone else.” Sᴇaʀ*ᴄh the Fɪndηovᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

When he heard that, his eyes lit up with self-mockery, and he said gently, “You’re worrying too much. I’m fine. So, just focus on your work.”

After saying that, he ended the call. He couldn’t help coughing.

Although he’d recovered from his terrible sickness, he was still suffering from many sequelae. There was no telling if his sickness would return again.

That day, Jeremiah didn’t drive back. Instead, he parked his car somewhere he could see Yvette’s house. Then, he just sat in the car and kept looking at the house.

Yvette returned to the house feeling complicated.

When she opened the door, she could smell a delicious aroma coming from the kitchen. Xavier walked out of the dining room and asked, “Where were you?”

“I went out for a walk,” she lied.

Xavier didn’t ask anything else about it. “It’s time to eat.”

“Alright.”

As she approached the table, she noticed it was full of her favorite dishes.

Viola had been sitting there for a long time. “Let’s eat now, Yvvy. He told Grace to prepare all of your favorite dishes.” Of course, Viola was referring to Xavier.

Yvette nodded. “Sure.”

Then, they started enjoying the food

at the table. Viola couldn’t resist nagging, “I used to wonder when we could have a meal as a family.4 never thought my wish would actually come true now.”

When Yvette heard Viola referring to the three of them as a family, she was surprised to realize that the latter had really accepted Xavier.

At that moment, Xavier said, “You’re going for a check-up tomorrow, right? I’ll ask someone to bring the medical equipment as well.”

“Alright. You sure are reliable,” Viola complimented.

Yvette didn’t know what to say at all as she watched them interact with each other.

“By the way, is Zac doing well at

Kiki’s? Also, how is Noah doing at the hospital? I’m weak now, and I don’t have the time to visit them. Viola couldn’t help asking when she noticed something was wrong with Yvette.

Since Yvette had been too busy that day, she’d forgotten to contact the kids. “I’d forgotten to check on them. I’ll call them and ask how they’re doing after we’re done eating.”

“Sure.”

After they were done with their meal, Yvette catted Kiki. As of late, Kiki had been telling her that Zachary had been doing great. She didn’t know if he’d gotten into any trouble after that.

The call only connected after a long time. Then, she heard Zachary say softly, “What’s up, Mom? Kiki is being lectured now.”

“What?” Yvette was stunned.

Then, he explained, “Yeah, she brought me back home, and her father is scolding her now.”
