Kenan was hesitated. He didn’t want to torture Cielle more than this. His heart couldn’t take it. After two of torture and she didn’t even yield at all to prove her innocent, Kenan started to have this doubt.
He always had this doubt in his heart, but his mother and Ensley kept whispering to his ear, reminding him of the hard proof that he couldn’t deny. He saw it with his own eyes. How could the truth be far from the reality?
“She could die,” Kenan said through his gritted teeth. Despite the betrayal, he couldn’t bring himself to reject Cielle, let alone to kill her. He was ready to accept her unfaithfulness and forget about everything to start a new.
“She will not die,” Meda said, she coaxed her son. “It will only put her in so much pain, she will not be able to endure it and only after she confessed, we will give her the antidote.” Meda cupped her son’s face, she looked at him with sadness in her eyes. “It hurt mother to see you in so much pain, son. At the very least, you deserved the truth.”
“Kenan, she will not be able to endure this so much pain, she will tell you the truth eventually. The best warrior could only endure it for ten minutes before they confessed, she probably could last only for five minutes or less.” Ensley waved her hand to tell the other warriors to leave the basement and they did. “Only five minutes and you will know the truth.”
Kenan turned his head to look at Cielle, who shook her head desperately, telling him not to do it. She was already in so much pain, she couldn’t be able to stand more agony than this.
However, Meda and Ensley kept whispering to his ears, telling him all the good reason why he had to do it and for Cielle’s fear, she knew that her mate would cave in. Kenan always did. He would cave in for them. He would do exactly what they wanted him to do.
Meda and Ensley would always be the main contention in their relationship, which otherwise perfect.
They always inserted themselves in every nook and cranny.
“No, Kenan, please…” Cielle was still holding onto the hope that he wouldn’t do this to her. He wouldn’t put her in so much pain because they wanted him to do so.
But, of course, she needed to succumb to the reality, where Kenan would put them again and again above her, even though she was his destined mate.
“Please, Kenan…” Cielle begged him. She didn’t know what to do anymore. She was desperate to make him see that she had been telling him the truth.
But still, Kenan chose to hurt her.
Cielle’s
dimmed when she watched Kenan walked over to her with the small bottle in his hand. He knelt down in front eyes of the woman that he declared as the love of his life. He stared at Cielle straight in the eyes and found the sadness and disappointment engraved so deep there.
The sight of her made him faltered and he swore that no matter what, whether Cielle told him the truth or not, he would give the antidote after five minutes had passed.
They would forget about this and start a new. He would forgive her.
“You don’t need to take the poison if you confess now, Cielle.” Kenan was still reluctant to make her drink the poison. He gave her the last chance. She should take it if she didn’t want to be in pain.
“You still don’t believe me, do you?” There was this smile on the corner of her eyes, though tears streamed down her face. Her hair was a mess, her skin covered in dirt and her beauty was hidden behind the bruises and wounds.
Why she was smiling? Did she surrender? Did she give up?

At that point, Cielle knew there was no point of fighting back. No matter what she said, Kenan would hear Meda and Ensley’s voice louder than hers.
“Do you want me to drink this and be in so much pain?” Cielle was holding onto the last straw of her hope.
“You don’t need to if you confessed.”
“I have nothing to confess. I never cheated on you.” Cielle stretched out her hand, she was trembling, not because of the fear of the inevitable pain the moment she drank the poison, but because of the sadness and the disappointment that racked her body.
Her hope shattered when Kenan put the small bottle of poison in her hand. That was it. That was all she needed to know.
It was over.
No mate bond could stand this level of betrayal.
He would never choose her. Even the mate bond between them didn’t allow him to choose her over his mother and Ensley.
“I loved you, Kenan, but my love and the bond between us are not enough to make you believe me.” Cielle’s voice was so small. “You disappoint me again and again.”
This small bottle of poison was very heavy. Kenan did nothing when she unscrewed the lid and gulped down the liquid.
It tasted so bitter, more tears streamed down Cielle’s cheeks.
She didn’t feel the effect immediately, but once the poison fussed in her system and the pain kicked in, Cielle bent her body and screamed.
She had never felt this kind of pain before. She felt like her heart was going to burst and her skin was being cut with a thousand razor blades, while her flesh was burned.
Cielle couldn’t hear other sound, but her own scream. She wanted to plead for them to kill her. Death would be a mercy for her at this point.
“Where is the antidote!? Give me the antidote!” Kenan roared, but the antidote slipped from Ensley’s grip.
