Chapter 243
Gloria and Selma looked at Winston in unison, waiting for him to answer. His head hung low, yet he knelt with an impeccable poise.

Just as Winston moved his lips, they heard the news anchor report, “Winston even splurged a fortune to purchase the land near the airport, planning to build a manor for Joanna.”
Brian was livid upon hearing that. “You didn’t hesitate to offend the Harrisons. for this land, all to make Joanna happy? Winston Greer, are you out of your
mind?”
“Dad, no, it’s not like that,” Winston immediately explained, “I have my own. plans. It’s not because of Joanna.”
Selma sneered, “You clarified this matter so quickly. But why didn’t you answer your father’s questions earlier?”
She was being too aggressive. Winston couldn’t help but complain, “Grandma, I’ve said it before, I couldn’t bring happiness to Millie. It was all of you who forced me to marry her!”
“What do you mean by that? Are you blaming us for your failed marriage?” Selma immediately rose to her feet.
“Isn’t it true? Grandma, did you or Mom ever think this would become a problem when you forced me to marry Millie?” Winston questioned Selma.
In an instant, Selma’s face turned red with anger.
“In what way is Millie inferior to Joanna? Has my judgment failed you? I think you’ve been hexed! That’s why you’re behaving so unreasonably.”
Winston also rose from the floor and shouted, “Yes, I’m being unreasonable. But no matter what, I must marry Joannal”
“Why? You owe us an explanation!” Selma glared at him, her voice growing louder.
Winston fixed his gaze on Selma, his lips moving. Joanna had told him not to inform his family. She wanted to win them over on her own, not because she had saved him, and they felt obliged to be kind.

She didn’t want a love that was given out of pity; she wanted to earn it. But with the Greer family so adamantly against her, should he still keep it a secret?
Winston gritted his teeth. In a fit of anger, he answered, “It’s because Joanna-”
Before he could finish his sentence, Selma suddenly clutched her chest and muttered, “Medicine, the medicine-”
Gloria quickly called out, “Mom!”
Brian hurried to retrieve the medicine, while Winston froze in place as he watched Selma collapse onto the couch.
Selma’s hand hung limply by the side of the couch. Her face flushed red from the neck up, evidently unable to breathe.
“Grandma. Winston stepped forward.
However, Selma pushed him away with a frown. She didn’t want him to touch her.
Brian quickly fetched the medicine and gave it to Selma.
Not daring to delay, Winston scooped Selma up and headed straight for the hospital. Despite their heated argument, he still loved his grandmother.
He was aware that Selma only wanted the best for him. Winston also understood that Millie was the ideal partner for him. But he couldn’t let Joanna down.
Winston decided to confess to his family once Selma recovered. He wanted to marry Joanna because she had saved him when he was kidnapped.
At the hospital, Millie rushed to the emergency department upon learning that Selma had collapsed.
The moment Gloria saw Millie, she stepped forward and called out, “Mills…”
“How is Grandma?” asked Millie.
Gloria shook her head. “I think she’s okay.” She couldn’t be entirely sure.
Right then, Winston returned after settling the bill. As soon as he saw Millie, he

instinctively frowned. Their eyes met, but neither spoke.
Someone hurriedly made their way into the emergency department. Millie looked up and saw that it was Joanna.
Joanna wore a white dress, her face adorned with light makeup. She always made an effort to look her best whenever she met Winston, and today was no
exception.
“Win, I heard something happened to Mrs. Greer Senior,” Joanna murmured.
Winston looked at her. Brian, on the other hand, was visibly displeased with her
arrival.
“What happened?” Joanna asked Winston
After handing some items to Gloria, he dragged Joanna away, saying, “Let’s talk outside.”
Joanna nodded in response, not forgetting to glance at Millie. At that moment, she was comforting Gloria.
