Chapter 222
Winston looked at Millie and grunted. Then, he continued putting on his tie as though the information didn’t concern him.
Millie had to admit that he was extremely handsome, even when he looked groggy in the morning.
Lips pursed, he picked up his jacket. She watched as he slowly buttoned his shirt, thinking, “Tsk! Joanna is a lucky woman indeed.”
“I’m leaving now,” he said to her.
She stood there and watched him leave. Then, she let out a silent sigh.
He stopped at the door without warning and turned, eliciting a look of surprise from her.
Smirking and arching a brow, he teased her, “Your waist feels good to the touch.”
She was rendered speechless. Damn it! The idea of snuggling in his arms while asleep overcame her with guilt.
“You’re useless!” she quietly chided herself. What was there to fear about a storm? How embarrassing!
By the way, he mentioned something about her actions when she was drunk. What exactly happened? What slipped her mind?
Why did she feel that he was angry at her that night?
The gaps in her memory frustrated her to no end.
Winston went home to wash up before he went out to work.
Gloria stopped him at the door. She gasped, “Were you out all night? Did you and Millie sleep together?”
Dumbstruck, he retorted, “Mom, you have too much free time on your hands. How about I find you a job?”
She pouted. “Oh, I am occupied, and I will continue to be if you and Millie do not sort yourselves out!”
While speaking, she placed an invitation card on the coffee table. “I found this in the mailbox and brought it in for you.”
Winston picked up the invitation to the entertainment industry’s gala that was in three days.
Sighing, Gloria nagged, “Winston Greer, why do you still make me worry at your age?”
He put away the card and sat on the couch. He had a luxury watch on his wrist. Then, he replied flatly to Gloria, “Whatever makes you happy.”
“Had you handled your marriage better, I wouldn’t have” Gloria fumed, but Winston cut her off.
He snapped, “I know what to do with my marriage. Just stay out of my business.”
“I can’t even make sense of it even if I wanted to meddle in your business! God knows what else you’re going to pull If I don’t interfere!”
Winston sank into silence. Moments later, he looked up and said to her with determination, “I will marry

Joanna because I owe her my life.”
“What?” Gloria was confused.
At the same time, Winston’s phone rang. Eli had called. “Mr. Greer, we need you to sign off the parcel of land by the airport.”
“Got it.” Winston hung up. Then, he said to Gloria, “I have work. I’ll leave now.”
“Winston.” She suddenly took his arm with a frown. “People are talking about the parcel of land you wrestled from the Harrison Group. They said-‘
”
“It’s untrue,” he shot down her guess before she could finish her sentence.
She was surprised by his response. Did he know what she was about to ask?
Noticing her doubt, he clarified, “I didn’t buy the land to build a manor for Joanna.”
Perplexed, she asked, “Then, why did you buy it?”
Turning to Gloria, he broke into a chuckle. “Mom, I’m a businessman. That land is valuable. Of course I bought it to make a profit. What has gone into you? Are you senile?”
A realization dawned on her. Meanwhile, he was ready to leave. “I’m leaving. Close the door for me!”
Gloria cheered up in an instant. She shouted after him, “I’ll make some soup for Millie tonight. Remember to bring her the soup later!”
