Chapter 167
Coincidentally, the person turned and saw Millie as well. Both of their faces lit up with recognition. At that moment, Millie could tell he was beaded her way.
“Millie, what a surprise to find you here! Are you alone?” Jake cheerfully asked as he scanned the surroundings.
Millie pursed her lips, appearing somewhat helpless. She couldn’t believe she would bump into an acquaintance at a club. Yerwick was truly a small city.
“I’m here with Rachel,” Millie said, pointing toward her friend sitting at a booth.
Jake looked over to the booth. There, Rachel was engrossed in her phone.
Despite the crowded club, her delicate figure was enough to catch anyone’s eye. Rachel possessed a charisma that others couldn’t mimic.
Jake raised an eyebrow as he said casually, “Well, I’m here alone. Winston didn’t
come.”
Millie hadn’t expected him to say that out of the blue. “I know he isn’t here. He went to Lowell Manor,” she replied indifferently.
Though the clamor of the club almost drowned out her voice, Jake managed to catch every word.
“How did you know?” He was somewhat surprised.
Millie smiled wryly. It was as if she had come to terms with the situation. She deliberately leaned closer to Jake, hands clasped behind her back.
Her doe eyes sparkled as she answered, Because he was supposed to drive me home. But we bumped into Joanna, and he left with her instead.”
A hint of resignation flashed across Jake’s eyes. Between Millie and Joanna, Joanna would always be Winston’s priority.
However, when Millie suddenly moved closer, Jake was somewhat stunned by her beauty. All these while, they had maintained a polite distance in their interactions.
This was the first time Millie had come so close to him. She was undeniably attractive. Her eyes, lips, and figure were second to none.
“I’m off to dance. Enjoy yourself! It’s on me tonight,” Millie said while patting Jake’s

shoulder.
Before he could say anything else, she had already returned to the dance floor. He watched as she mingled with several men, clearly having a wild time.
Jake was surprised that Millie had offered to treat him. Wasn’t it supposed to be the other way around?
He couldn’t help but smile. Suddenly, he found her rather intriguing.
After that, Jake returned to his booth. He picked up his phone and messaged Winston.
“Winston, your ex–wife is truly something. I bumped into her at the club, and she even offered to buy me a drink!”
Then, he added, “But I think she might have had a bit too much to drink.”
With that, he even sent a short video clip to Winston. Jake happened to capture a scene where a man embraced Millie. Their interaction seemed unusually intimate.
After sending the message, he put his phone away and carried on having fun.
Millie emerged from the dance floor and sat beside Rachel, hugging her.
“Rachel, why don’t you join in the fun?”
Rachel gently stroked her hair, her eyes brimming with gentleness as she asked,” Tired of dancing already?”
“Those men are kind of smelly. It’s not fun,” Millie replied. She lowered her gaze as the alcohol slowly numbed her senses.
Rachel chuckled wryly. Having once loved someone as magnificent as Winston, how could Millie easily find herself drawn to another man?
“Mills, stop torturing yourself,” Rachel advised softly.
Millie closed her eyes and felt her stomach churning uncomfortably. “I’m not torturing myself,” she stubbornly retorted.
Then, she downed glass after glass of alcohol as if she were an emotionless machine.
Rachel was left unsettled by that sight. She quickly stopped her friend. “Stop

drinking.”
When Millie turned to look at Rachel, tears welled up in her eyes. Rachel clearly heard her let out a deep sigh.
“Rach…” Millie called out, her voice breaking with emotion.
Rachel gently brushed away Millie’s hair, tucking them behind her ear, and nodded. reassuringly. “Mills, I’m here:”
Millie’s hand rested on her chest, her eyes reddened. She felt the profound ache in her heart, yet there were no words to describe the anguish.
