Chapter 9 Interrogation
I was taken aback by his audacious statement and wondered if Lilly had arranged male escorts for my entertainment. Under the influence of alcohol, I approached the man and retorted, “Well, we’ll see if I can keep myself amused. I promptly left after uttering those words. I had no interest in men like him, particularly those with hidden agendas. Lilly hurried back to me as soon as she noticed my departure.

“I’ve had enough for the night, and I need to head home now,” I said, clutching my throbbing head. I was feeling quite dizzy, and I knew my mother would scold me if I returned home excessively drunk.
“Me too: I have work tomorrow,” Sammy chimed in. I was clear from her tone that she was not fond of her job.
Lilly pouted and protested, “Come on, the night is still young, and it’s no fun being alone. Fine, I’ll leave too. We departed after Lilly settled the bill.
We hailed a cab, and before we went our separate ways, Lilly teased, “Do you think Henry would be jealous if he knew you were out drinking with a bunch of attractive men?”
“Oh, please don’t mention his name,” I replied, waving her goodbye.
“Hehe, bye!” Lilly’s inexplicable cheerfulness puzzled me. I instructed Lewis to leave and decided to rest my eyes. Suddenly, I was jolted awake when Lewis abruptly hit the brakes just as we were nearing home. “What’s happening?” I asked.
“It’s Mr. Patterson’s car, Ma’am,” Lewis responded, pointing at the vehicle ahead. I rubbed my forehead, wondering what Henry was doing here. “Alright, just drive my car home, Lewis. It’s late,” I instructed.
“Of course,” Lewis replied before driving off.
I was a mere five minutes away from my home, and I decided to ignore Henry and walk the rest of the way. However, he stormed out of his car and blocked my path. He thrust his phone in my face and demanded, “Care to explain?”
On the screen was a video of me flirting with the man I had met outside the restroom. The footage. showed me standing uncomfortably close to him. It turned out that Lilly had shared the video, captioning it, “There are always more fish in the vast ocean of men.”
I laughed and responded, “Impressive.”
“Ramona!” Henry bellowed.
“I thought you said we could do whatever we want. Why are you interrogating me now?” I retorted.
Henry scoffed and replied, “Yes, but that doesn’t mean you can broadcast everything to the world.”
I had nearly forgotten that we shared mutual friends on social media. Anything Lilly posted would be visible to them, and given his influential position, any public humiliation would undoubtedly tarnish his reputation. Men despise being publicly shamed, especially someone as prideful as Henry. I finally understood Lilly’s earlier giddiness; she had shared the post deliberately. “Alright, I’ll tell Lilly to stop sharing things I conceded. I was too dizzy to argue with Henry and just wanted to sleen. I turned to

his arm. Henry was taken aback by my reaction, but he didn’t loosen his grip. He let me bite him. His arm was firm, and biting it felt oddly satisfying.
“Have you lost your mind?” Henry finally snapped back to reality, grabbing my neck and prying me away from his arm, leaving a deep bite mark.
My heart ached as 1 looked at him. I had harbored feelings for him for so long, yet I had never left a mark on him. In my previous life, I had seen Violet leave countless hickeys on him. They must have been deeply in love. I was making peace with myself as I left a mark on him. “Henry, you have no right to interrogate me! You’ve been linked with countless women over the years! It’s humiliating for me!” I wiped my lips, tasting blood.
He retorted coldly, “Aren’t you the one who asked for this? Did anyone force you to marry me?”
Of course not. I would have forced myself to marry him. I had always hoped that he would fall in love with me after witnessing my affection for him. “Yes, I asked for it. But people change. I’m not as naive as I used to be. Understand?”
“No!” He snorted, “You have to face the consequences of your wrong choices.”
“Henry, do you believe that you’ll be asking for a divorce in the near future? And you’ll wish that I could vanish from your life.” A year was not that long: I was willing to bet on it
He looked at me, puzzled, and asked, “Ramona, what nonsense are you spouting?”
He was indeed vindictive. He didn’t mind hurting himself in the process of hurting me. I said, “Why don’t you believe me? Look, you will want me to leave soon, and I’m telling you that I drank too much. tonight and I just want to sleep. Can you just leave, please?”
“Come with me.” He effortlessly picked me up and placed me in his car. He didn’t allow me to stay at my parents‘ home.
I protested vehemently, yelling, “No, I don’t want to! Open the door!” He glanced at me and ignored my pleas. He quickly drove away from my house. I glared at him and demanded, “Take me home! I forgot something!”
“What is it?” he asked.
“My medication,” I replied. Is it so hard for me to take my medicine?
“Are you dying?
He was socially inept. No wonder many people wish for his downfall. Especially those he has wronged in the past. I smiled and replied, “Not really. I’m underweight. I just want to be a healthy and curvaceous woman.”
Something seemed to click in his mind, and his expression darkened.
