Chapter 126
KAIDEN STIRLING
She was looking at me with an expression I could not read. “Stay with me,” she whispered.
I wanted to immediately do as she asked. I wanted to climb into the cozy bed and just hold her close to me. I desperately
needed that, but is highly doubted that she was in her right mind. So I hesitated and took a step back without a word.
Panic filled her eyes and she reached for me, grasping my wrist again. “Please,” She begged and I stared at her, conflicted. “You’re drunk, Freda,” I said in a low voice. She shook her head and sat straight in the bed. “I’m not,” she whispered. It was like there was someone outside the door and we were both talking in whispers so the person wouldn’t hear us. It was almost silly, but I knew that we both wanted to keep this moment as quiet and peaceful as it was.
“Please,” she pleaded and I hesitated. I pressed my lips together and took a step towards her. A ghost of a smile touched her lips and I so desperately wanted to make her smile genuinely. I wanted to be the reason she laughed. I wanted to be the reason she giggled and felt excited.
“Do you need water? It’ll help you feel better,” I said and she shook her head. “I’m okay. Just lie with me,” she said and I nodded. I kicked off my shoes and climbed into the bed beside her. She laid down and turned on her side to look at me. We both lay in bed, studying each other.

Her lips were rosy, her face was bright from the alcohol and her eyelids were dropping. She was still half conscious. She was fighting off both sleep and the effects of alcohol. I felt terrible for listening to her, for giving into my desires despite knowing that she would not be comfortable with this when she was sober or not half-asleep.
“What are you looking at?” She asked in a whisper and I looked up from her lips to her eyes. They were filled with amusement. I looked back down at her lips and there was a smile on them. A genuine one. My heart thudded in my chest and I feared that the o**n would explode.
Kai was anxiously prancing around in my head. He wanted to come out and feel his mate. He wanted to talk to her. It had been so long since we had been this close and he was dying for her. I was too.
“You,” I responded with a whisper. I reached out and my hand paused halfway to her face. She looked at my hand but did not show any sign that she wanted me to stop. I inched my hand forward slowly so that I would give her enough time to stop me from touching her.
My fingers made contact with her cheeks and her eyes fluttered shut as she let out a shaky breath. My breathing was completely cut off. Sparks erupted from the spot our hands had touched and moved all the way to my spine, giving me crazy chills.
I traced my hand up to her forehead and pushed a strand of hair out of her face and behind her ear.
She sucked the bottom lip into her mouth and bit it, opening her eyes. “This doesn’t mean I forgive you,” she whispered, bringing her hand up to mine. She placed it over mine and our eyes made

contact. I tried to read hers. There was pain, longing, and something I was not quite sure I understood. It was almost like resistance.
“I know,” I responded and tears filled her eyes. I pressed my lips together, resisting the urge to look away from her pain. It hurt me too much.
‘You did that,’ Kai said in my head. ‘You better watch. Suffer the way she’s suffering, he said and I kept my eyes on her because he was right.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered. “I hate you,” she said, slightly shaking her head and looking away from me to the pillow under my head. Nothing was intriguing about it but she acted like there was, because she kept her eyes there.
“I know,” I said in response to her words. I knew she hated me. I would hate me too if I were her.
“You don’t,” she said, looking at me with a small, sad smile. “What?” I asked in confusion. “You don’t know that I hate you,” she said.
I was still confused so I kept quiet, alternating my gaze between her eyes and her lips. Goddess, I wanted to get on my knees and worship her. She was a work of f**g art and I would never get tired of singing her praises. Ever.
“I try to hate you. Sometimes, I’m able to. Other times, I can’t,” she said and I was filled with surprise. Why was she telling me this? She was not supposed to be telling me this. That only further proved how drunk she was.
