Chapter 120
FREDA WHITLOCK
“How does that make you feel?” She asked. “I’m jealous,” | replied with all honesty. There was a burning jealousy in my stomach and it was making me sick.
“He is so happy. I… I didn’t know was taking this from him,” I said, forcing back the tears in my eyes. “I didn’t make him as happy as this,” I said, pressing my thumb to my bottom lip.
“Come on, Freda. Don’t say that,” Lyra said, nudging me. “It’s true,” I said and bit my lip. “I don’t know if I should be sad, jealous, or mad, “I said and turned to look at her. She sighed. “Freda, you are misunderstanding this whole thing,” she said and grabbed my hand, turning me to look at her completely.
“Francisco is only this happy because you are there. He has you. He has always had you and he’s been a happy kid. Having his father has made everything complete and better for him. He’s a happy child. If he didn’t have you, he wouldn’t be this happy,” she said and the realization of the truth of her words hit me.
I looked at her with a smile. “You’re right. I’m just being a child,” I said, running my hand down my face. “No, it’s okay to feel jealous, especially when the person is Kaiden,” she said and chuckled. I smiled and looked back at where they had been. They were not there any longer. My automatic instinct was to look around. I looked around the area and found Cisco and Harper moving towards the other kids.

Kaiden on the other hand… Was standing off to the side and standing face to face with Cole.
What the hell?
My heart dropped to the base of my chest. “Watch the kids. Cole is here,” I said to Lyra and hurried off without waiting for a response from her. “Wanna tell me what the hell you’re doing here?” I heard Kaiden say as I approached them. S**. What the hell was Cole doing here?
I did not want to have any more issues. G**n it, why could I never have a fully good day?
“Kaiden… Kaiden please,” I said and placed my hands on his chest, moving him away from Cole. He said nothing as he looked down at me with an expressionless face. “Freda, what is he doing here?” He finally asked, rubbing his forehead with a look of disappointment and pain crossing his face.
D**n it, he thought I was responsible for Cole being here. I wasn’t. I had not said anything to him since he had left my house with that injury on his lip from Kaiden’s slap. I was too embarrassed to reach out to him. “I…” I started and cut myself off as I glanced at Cole who was watching us carefully.
“I don’t know why he is here,” I said, looking up at Kaiden. The pain on his face was gone now and it was replaced with a coldness that stunned me. That.. That hurt me.
What the f**k?
“I don’t know why he is here. I didn’t invite him. I didn’t even expect that he would be here today,” I rushed to clear his misunderstanding. Then it hit me What the hell was I doing?

Why was I looking for his approval? If it was any other time, I would not have cared about him being hurt. I was not supposed to care. This was beyond me wanting my son to have a relationship with his father. This was me trying to… Trying to keep something with him, whatever it was.
I backed away from him unconsciously and the anger and confusion that filled his eyes filled me with conflicting emotions. “Stay with the kids. Don’t let them out of your sight,” I said and turned away from him.
I started to walk away from him as quickly as I could. “Freda…” Cole called, reaching out for my hand. I escaped his hold and then stopped myself when i realized what I had done. Oh, goddess.
I bit my lip and ignored the flames that Kaiden’s gaze on me caused. “Come on,” I said to Cole and took his hand, leading him away. Gia scoffed at me and I completely ignored the b**h. “Was that supposed to be an insult?” She asked. “Because technically, I’m a b**h,” she said with sass and I ignored the ** wolf.

“Are you okay?” Cole asked and I took a sip from the new glass of fruit punch I was taking. It was cold but it did little to calm my nerves. “Of course… Why do you ask that?” I asked, not looking at him.
In all truth, I was tired of people asking me that d**n question.
I had heard it almost twenty times from other parents here, from Lyra, and even from Kaiden. It made me feel m**y unstable.
**n it, maybe I was.

“I need to tell you something,” I said and turned to him with a look I was sure was intense.
