Chapter 117
KAIDEN STIRLING
After Harper left the doorway, I started thinking over the decision I had made in a split second just to please her. I did not regret it; no, it was just sudden, and I knew I had to prepare myself. The first thing I needed to prepare myself for was to get there on time. It would not look good for a parent, especially one that was the Alpha to show up late for a party like that.
The second thing I needed to prepare myself for was to face Freda and the human male that would be standing in as Francisco’s father. On the surface level, it did not seem like that much of a deal, but it was. It started with a small thing like the human male (I had heard his name once, but I did not remember it) going to functions and events as Francisco’s father, but before long, he would be taking my place, and Francisco would recognize him as his father. That crushed me. And it was almost funny because about three months ago, I did not know I had a son with Freda.
I sighed and walked into the bathroom. I turned on the shower and let the cold water flow down my body. It was bordering on freezing, but I did not have the time to wait for the water to get hot to the temperature I liked.
After my bath, I walked out of the bathroom and dried myself at the doorway of the bathroom, wondering what I would wear. It had to look casual and professional at the same time. I always managed to pull things off a good outfit, no matter how complicated it seemed.

I walked into the closet and pulled on my underwear before scanning through the few clothes that lined the closet walls. I decided to wear a navy blue shirt and dress pants. The majority of my clothes were still in the room I had been sharing with Safiya some months ago. I had not had the time or energy to pick them out and bring them to this closet and I did not have the strength to deal with Safiya if I went to the room this morning.
I pulled out a pair of Armani shoes and then put a silver watch on my wrist. I looked at the mirror in the closet and arranged my hair. I looked fairly okay since I had decided to dress simply.
I walked out of the closet and as I walked towards the door, my eyes fell on a pink bracelet that Harper had made. She had given it to me three days ago and I completely adored it. I smiled and clipped it around my wrist. She would love to see me wear it.
I walked out of the room and headed down the stairs. It was then I heard the commotion coming from the foot of the stairs. Safiya was talking to someone in a raised tone and the person was responding quietly. D**n it, what the hell was going on and who was she scolding this time?
I did not want to be caught in the middle of it because I was starving and I had a party my daughter was expecting me to get to on time. What I did not expect to see was Freda standing at the foot of the stairs and answering Safiya’s raised tone quietly.
My heart sank in my chest and I could not help but wonder what she was doing here.
“Alpha,” a maid called from behind me in a panicked tone and I looked at her. “She came to see you, but I did not have the time

to tell you before you started coming down,” she said and I pressed my lips together as I turned back and looked at the sisters. With the dynamics they had, with the stark difference in their looks and features, one would never guess that they were sisters.
I did not want to get involved in their mess but I knew I had to, especially since I was the one that created it in the first place.
“Oh goddess,” I said and sighed. “What is this? What’s going on?” I asked. Freda looked at me straight in the eyes and I was surprised by the determination and fierceness I saw there. “I need you to come to the party,” she responded.
Huh? “What?” I questioned, confused and unsure as to whether I had heard her right. “Come to the party, please.” She said again, looking away from Safiya who was now glaring at both of us alternately.
“What party?” Safiya asked, crossing her arms. I ignored her.
“Why? So you can rub it in my face that you’re trying to replace me?” I asked, forcing every bit of emotion out of my voice. I did not want her to see the effect she had on me, the effect her actions had on me. I knew I was being petty by asking her that, but I could not help it.
