Chapter 7
The next morning. Ella woke up with achy muscles and a sore backside. She wondered if she had gotten too drunk and injured herself somehow. Unable to recall anything from the night before, she decided not to dwell on it, as she was busy finalizing details for the new business partnership at the company.
Even the board members, who usually gave her the cold shoulder, were much friendlier.
Ella received a call from Jenny as she left the office in a good mood.
Just like you said, the Rhys family reached out. I’ll sign the contract for you,” Jenny said
“Hold off on that.” Ella replied.

“Huh?” Jenny asked, puzzled, “Weren’t you studying fashion design because of Harry!”
Ella said, “A lot has changed. Just g
give them a verbal agreement for now, but don’t sign anything. Keep them hanging
“What happened” Jenny sensed something was off. “Did something happen between you and Harry!”
“He cheated on me, got Grace pregnant, and we’re done for good. Come to my wedding at the end of the month–I’ve found someone new,” Ella said, skipping the details.
There was a moment of silence on the other end. Jenny was overwhelmed. Harry, an illegitimate child who had only risen in statins because of Devin’s support, had dared to cheat. And now, Ella was getting married so suddenly. Who’s the groom?” Jenny’s voice trembled with shock.
“A cute guy who’s easy on the eyes. I need to go buy some gifts, I’m visiting his family in a few days.” Ella hung up and went shopping for luxurious
The agreed day soon arrived. They kept it low–key, with just one car pulling up to the Watson Villa
Jaden’s father, Frank, was also present. Barely noticing Jaden but showing keen interest in Ella, Frank summoned her to his study alone
Ella anticipated a talk about Jaden’s well–being but found herself engaged in a business discussion instead.
It gave Ella such a headache. After over ten minutes, she couldn’t take it anymore and said, “Got it. I’ll have the board contact you. I need to help Jaden pack.”
“Go ahead,” Frank said, not insisting she stay.
Ella rushed to find Jaden. He wasn’t in the living room but must have gone to the storeroom. Crossing the backyard, she heard noise near the pool.
“Why are you being so careless? Just let it go if it fell in the water. Why dive in yourself? Rose quipped from the shore.
Jaden was frantically searching in the pool, surfacing briefly for air before plunging back in. A crowd had gathered, mocking him.

Ella was furious. “What are you doing?” she shouted.
“Jaden dropped something in the water. It’s not a big deal, but he insisted on diving in after it. I couldn’t convince him otherwise,” Rose said with mock helplessnesk
Ella’s face turned pale with anger. “Jaden, get out of there!” she yelled.
There was no response from the water, Ella had no idea how long Jaden had been underwater. Normally, people could hold their breath for four or five minutes, but Jaden wasn’t experienced. As time dragged on, her heart sank. “Get someone to dive in. He’s not surfacing”
none of us can swim. Is there anyone here who can?” Rose asked,
The servants all shook their heads, catching Rose’s drift
Ella was panicked but knew she couldn’t hesitate–she had to save Jaden. Despite her fear of water, she declared, “If no one else can swim, then Fil do it. If something happens to me in your pool, it’s on you!”
With that, she plunged in. The cold water enveloped her, causing her to shiver. She struggled to breathe, swallowing water and feeling suffocated Once a confident swimmer, that incident had left her terrified of water. She tried to move her limbs, but fear paralyzed her, dragging her down.
The pool was deep, and it took a moment for her to sink to the bottom. Just as she felt she might drown, someone swam towards her. She forced her eyes open and saw Jaden. He was safe!
Jaden grabbed her waist, hesitated brielly, then pressed his lips to hers, sharing his breath to keep her conscious. He quickly swam to the surface,
where the servants had finally arrived to help.
Rose had to intervene because she couldn’t risk letting Ella drown in their pool, as it would cause too much trouble.
Once out, Ella coughed violently, still shaken with fear.
Jaden remained silent, his expression conflicted as he looked at Ella.
By day, he played the fool in front of everyone else. It was only in the water that he felt in control of his body and true to himself. Seeing Ella in danger, his only thought was to save her at any cost. He marveled at her risking her life to rescue him, despite her fear of water. Was she brave or simply reckless?
“Let’s get you home,” Jaden said, noticing Ella’s soaked clothes clinging to her body, revealing her underwear. Frowning, he took off his coat and wrapped it around her before lifting her up and carrying her out.
What about the thing you were looking for?” Rose called after them
Jaden’s cherished keepsake, a memento from his late mother, had been tossed into the pool. He dove in immediately to retrieve it but surfaced empty–handed just now. Rose was surprised he was willing to leave without finding it.
“You can keep
pit,” Jaden replied without looking back. He knew the item was still in the pool. One day, he would return for it.
At last, Rose managed to persuade them to stay. Even though she wasn’t concerned about Jaden’s well–being, it wouldn’t look good if word got out that Ella had fallen into their pool.
In the guest room, Ella shivered, her teeth chattering. “Are you looking for this?” she asked, holding up a double fish pendant
“How did you find it?” Jaden was surprised. Despite his thorough search, Ella had located it effortlessly,
