Chapter 74
FREIDA WHITLOCK
The sudden impact of the rough halt, made them jerk forward. Thank the goddess that I never forget to strap Cisco with the seatbelt else… He moved forward pretty swiftly.
Lyra groaned, “Driving like a movie star now, aren’t we Freda?” I could feel the apprehension in her tone and I almost scoffed. She drove like that all the time and never yielded to my complaints but I did it one time and she’s grumpy already?
But it was abrupt so…
“Sorry about that, guys,” I said sheepishly.
“So why did we stop?” Lyra asked mirroring Cisco’s questioning gaze at me. They looked adorable this way, suitable for a picture of the moment. We would have done that if time was on our
side.
Sighing, I started the car again aiming for a U-turn as I replied, “We’re going back to the hospital
“Why?” Lyra grimaced, obviously the least in love with that idea. With Georgina around there, she would lose her mind all over again and so would I but it was the last try to get things back on the right track. I had to get to Harper. I had to be by her side when she woke up to hear from her about the whole incident.
“I want to be by Harper’s side when she wakes up to hear her words before anyone else’s” I explained, my jaw clenching,

“Safiya has proven to be sly. She might brainwash the child if she’s there before me”
I had seen hunger in Safiya’s eyes to attain control of everything including Kaiden. She would go to any length to get her will done even if it meant trapping me in her schemes forever no matter the means. She had tried intimidating Cisco and she hated him. I could only imagine her using her love for her daughter to her advantage. I could imagine her brainwashing the poor girl into telling a lie. Safiya loved her daughter but with that heart full of evil, she wouldn’t mind crossing the
boundaries. It was sad to know or even think about. It felt like she had become deranged all of a sudden.
I felt a tug in my chest but pushed it down the depths of my heart. She didn’t deserve my pity. The little bond we shared had withered at her attempt to corner my son.
“True. Drive faster” A smile crept on my lips and I nodded loving Lyra all over again. My one true cheerleader in the better and the worse times. I made the U-turn swiftly, swaying us to the side and Cisco cheered, excitedly. To him, this was like an adventure with mommy in charge.
“I never imagined in my life that you had it in you to drive this recklessly. It feels so surreal and I’m proud” Lyra commented as I sped down the road.
“Seriously?” I whined with an eye roll and she laughed.
The rest of the drive to the hospital was in comfortable silence. When we got there, we hurried to Harper’s ward like it was an emergency. It was. This involved mine and Cisco’s wounded dignity and Harper was the cure.

Upon reaching her ward, I was surprised to see that no one was by her side. Yes, I planned to be here before anyone but I didn’t actually expect no one to be around.
I felt sad for her. Her parents might currently be at their huge house, screaming at each other for whatever reason, I felt it.
The thought made Gia snicker. She lived for their disagreement much to my dismay. Sometimes, wondered why my wolf was this troublesome.
While, Lyra and Francisco perched on the other bed, playing games on their cells trying to outplay each other’s winning streak, I sat on the stool by Harper’s bed watching her. She was alive, and her breathing was normal but she was yet to wake up. 1 worried for her and prayed to the goddess to keep her in good
health. This was too much for a child to endure.
Her bruises were healing but not as fast as Cisco’s since hers were deeper. I could imagine how badly it hurt her delicate skin.
The door suddenly swung open and Gia seemed to come to life at the sight of Kaiden entering the room. I don’t get it. Why was she still this giddy for him? Why was it so hard for her to accept that he didn’t care for us?
My eyes furrowed into harsh slits and my nose scrunched when our eyes met. Surprisingly, there was a hint of resignation and longing in them that made Gia purr hurtfully, hissed and looked
away.
Our interaction may not have lasted over two seconds because Lyra was on her feet throwing words at him already. Heck, why did it seem like thirty minutes then?

My attention was drawn back to Lyra attacking him verbally and calling him all names that screamed “incompetent and depraved man”
At this rate, Lyra would one day end up in his clutches if she didn’t stop attacking him at any chance she got. Even now, I could feel his wolf’s anger simmering beneath the hard face he wore. His hands were balled into fists and he was doing everything he could not to grasp her neck and snap it.
to stop
I gasp, ambling forward to stop Lyra.
“Lyra, that’s enough!” I scolded, pushing her down to the bed. Fransisco was seated, staring blankly at us. “Just keep shut, okay?”
She huffed and picked up her phone angrily, staring at it like she would stare at him. It was taking everything in her not to throw the device across the room.
D**n!
The tension in the room was palpable. When I looked at Kaiden again, there seemed to be a spark of rage within me. This man had caused me so much pain that I hated the sight of him despite being my son’s father. I hated myself for not making sure he accepted the rejection before leaving. Gia was still tied to him and it angered me how the dynamic was every time she saw him. It f**g disgusted me
“What are you doing here?” His smooth voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
I glared at him as she stepped forward, standing two feet away from me. I heard Lyra’s low grunt of disapproval behind me. I

understand bestie, he would not get any closer.
“Don’t ask me s**d questions, Kaiden. I can be here if I want. It shouldn’t be your cup of tea” His eyes flickered hearing the amount of hate in my voice and he sighed, his shoulders slumped as he stared at me with gleaming eyes
“I’m sorry Freda” He started, “I’m so sorry for making you-” He paused and stared over my shoulder to stare at Fransisco who I was sure was looking away from him with an attitude. A pained look flashed across his face. A look that seemed to break Gia’s reigns. We felt the same thing course through us. Anger and pain. She growled in my head and before I knew it, my hand flew to his face.
The sound of the action echoed across the room sharply.
The air seemed to become still as my hand dropped to my side. Kaiden’s head had tilted to the side from the impact. His lips parted and he stared at me, utterly speechless.
