Chapter 67
FRIEDA WHITLOCK
The ride to the pack house was slow. Time seemed to freeze as we navigated through the scanty road. Traffic was surprisingly smooth today but that wasn’t helping. It would have been much. better if we had to go around a fleet of cars and end up late than ride freely and still be as slow as this.
I felt suffocated. At the back of my head, I registered the fact that I had just been summoned by Kaiden to the pack house. He even sent guards to get me.
What if… I cast the supposed guards’ fleeting glances. What if someone else sent them to me? Not Kaiden nor Safiya?
Holy cow, Freda, scratch that thought!
Indeed, I had to because we had just rounded the street that led to the Alpha’s house. The pack house.
It was Kaiden who sent for me. What did he want? What would he want?
Cisco? I wasn’t going to let my son go without a fight.
Nonetheless, I hoped it wasn’t Cisco by any means. It could be everything but my son!
We finally arrived at the pack house and got out of the car. Cisco was still in my arms but seemed scared.
“Mom, what’s happening?” He asked, his voice shaky, filled with

fear. His fear got to me, it seeped into my spine and I shuddered.

I rocked him and flashed a smile at him, “Trust me Kiddo, there’s nothing to be worried about” He stared at me for a while, hist eyes threatening to break through my false mask of braveness but then he blinked and nodded before burying his face in my neck again.
I sighed out in relief.
I was led into the house through another route that was separated from the living room and led into a wide corridor. It was a five-minute walk before we got to a huge door.
“Is he in here?” I asked when they said nothing, rather stood blankly staring at the door. They were probably on a mind link with Kaiden or whoever it was that sent for me – Safiya?
They opened the door and ushered me in. I entered the room timidly but soon became aware of the presence of a few – about five- older men in the room. They were seated around a concave desk staring at me with hardened gaze. My eyes widened as realization dawned on me. These were the members of the council. I was standing before the council. Why?
What was happening? Why was I brought before these men who were staring at me with judgemental eyes? What did I do wrong?
I felt an intense stare at the back of my head and tilted my head to the side. My heart dropped to the base of my stomach when I saw Kaiden seated in the head chair and beside him was Safiya with a malicious on her face.

I gulped down nothing and carefully placed Cisco down. He clutched my leg with his hand burying his face at the spot.
Before I could ask my reason for being here, Safiya stood up abruptly. “This woman’s son is the one who pushed my daughter, Harper down the stairs. He may look innocent but he’s far from that and so is his mother!” She accused and my temper flared. I should have known this was what this was about the moment I stepped foot here. This would be Safiya’s plan but I didn’t think that Kaiden would be a pawn to her games as well. He usually looked displeased at the accusations.
What did I expect?
“And I say for the umpteenth time that my son had nothing to do with your daughter falling off the stairs. Stop blaming your child’s misfortune on mine!” Angered, I snapped at her. She was pulling this issue too far. Bringing me before the council was the height of it. It was bait to trap me and it didn’t matter now. I would not stay silent and watch her t*ple o**ver Cisco’s pure. heart that way. She was forcing him to say yes to what he had no idea about.
What a wench!
“Watch the way you speak, woman!” An elder berated, his voice sending chills down my spine, “That is your Luna and you will not speak to her in that tone” He said and I bit my lip hard, almost drawing blood.
Gia was enraged but we couldn’t do anything because we were at the mercy of stronger wolves and Kaiden wasn’t doing anything. He just sat there, quiet with his eyes on me.
“I didn’t mean to snap at her but if she keeps accusing my son

then, I don’t think I’ll be able to hold back my tongue” Or even my arms from whipping her face. She needed a good beating and f**k her pregnancy, I was willing to give that to her. A good beating!
“Ask your son with a calm mind, dear. Maybe he did push her but is scared of getting punished. He is a child and children are bound to be scared of the consequences of their actions” Another spoke and I gasped in disbelief, staring at them wide- eyed. They didn’t believe me. They would obviously take the Luna’s side but blame a child as well… Seriously?
I couldn’t believe it.
“He didn’t do it” I found myself shaking my head frantically. I wanted to scream it to them but I held back for Cisco’s sake. I didn’t mind getting banished but that would ruin his life. Oh, goddess, I can’t take this anymore.
I shot Kaiden a glare before looking down. I didn’t miss the frown that crossed Safiya’s face when she saw the look.
“How sure are you?” The question was thrown by another member of the council and my throat ran dry. Tears p**d my eyes but Gia consoled me. I had to stay strong.
“I didn’t push Harper down,” My heart broke when I heard Cisco’s broken voice. Gazing down at him, I gave him a tight- lipped smile and rubbed his hair
“Shut up kid. Stop relaying the words put in your mouth by your mother and speak the truth!” Safiya yelled and Cisco shivered, holding tightly onto my leg like his life depended on it. I glared at her. This **h was scaring my son and Kaiden was watching without saying a word.

What happened to the love for his son? Did it suddenly catch a cruise ride to Neverland?
My temper flared and I couldn’t control it, “Safiya, that’s enough. Stop yelling at my son. He said he didn’t do it, so be it!”
“That’s not your call to make Freda. Your son did this to my daughter. She’s currently in the hospital in a terrible condition while he’s out here telling lies about what he did. What have you been teaching him all those years?” She asked, the rage in her eyes matching the intensity in mine, “You’re not leaving here till I get an apology” She spat
“What?” I asked, squinting my eyes.
Her lip twisted to a smug smirk, “You heard me right. I want an apology. Go down on your knees before the council and apologize to me for this misconduct your son has displayed!” Her words were like arrows piercing my chest. They were firm and authoritative. Beneath her burning gaze was the determination to make me bend.
D**n her. D**n her.
Making me bend has never been done before and it won’t happen even now.
Staring at her with rage, I declared, “Never!”
It seemed like a standoff between Safiya and me. Seeing that there wasn’t going to be any headway with the matter at hand, the elders turned to Kaiden calling his attention to the matter.
And for whatever reason, I wished that for once, he would choose me.
