Chapter 691 Indebted To You
Tiffany had been repeatedly snubbed by Josiah, which had noticeably soured her expression. She then managed to force a faint smile and said, “Well then, Jose, we’ll take our leave for now. We’ll come to see you again tomorrow.
Following Josiah’s thoughts, it would be best if they didn’t bother him again. However, a significant event would happen the next day, and they surely couldn’t do without them. Therefore, he simply acknowledged with a nonchalant hum.
The group then left the health center in a bustling manner.
The night sky after the rain was clearer than ever before. Glancing up, one could almost mistake the not–yet–full moon for a complete one.
Lysander murmured, “Unknowingly, I’ve already spent a month here.”
The day she first arrived, the moon in the sky looked just like that. Initially, she thought she was all alone, never expecting that Josiah would suddenly appear by her side.
If she were to adhere to her past mindset, she would rather have a ghost to accompany her than Josiah.
Josiah seemed to see right through her thoughts and asked, “If I’m disturbing your moon viewing, I can stay in the consultation room. However, I’m a patient now, Dr. Thorne. You should at least arrange a ward for me.”

The dorm was for the girls. He had already once accepted the nurses‘ favor. This time, he was content as long as he lived closer to Lysander. Moreover, if he stayed in the front yard, he would be able to detect any suspicious activity immediately.
The way Dillon and Tiffany parted so swiftly, the situation surely couldn’t have been that simple.
Regaining her composure, Lysander replied, “There are no wards available, but I can arrange a hospital bed for you. A woman who just gave birth here has just been discharged, so if you don’t mind, you could stay here for a few days. Don’t worry. The bed has been properly cleaned and prepared.”
In the eyes of a doctor, patients were not distinguished by gender. By the same token, hospital beds were not segregated by gender either, especially when the only patient requiring hospitalization at the moment was losiah

In response, he powered through and said, “All right, then.”

Lysander looked at his expression, akin to that of a martyr, and couldn’t help but shake her head in resignation.
“All right. I was just speaking off the cuff earlier. There’s a folding bed in the front office, made up of a bedding set I bought from the town. It’ll be fine for a temporary stay. Hospital beds are in such high demand that they need to be left available during the day for the elderly and children who come in for injections. I can’t possibly offer you one.”
“That’s true…” Josiah remembered the heap of items he had left in the car and hadn’t had time to bring over. He stood up and said, “You rest well. I’ll make a trip back to the car.
He had merely feigned severe injury in front of Dillon and Tiffany to gauge their reactions. After they had left, there was no need for him to keep up the act.
Upon seeing him rise, Lysander naturally stood up and said, “I guess I’ll tag along. After all, those things aren’t just for your use.”
Even though it was a minor issue, it was still necessary to make things clear.
Naturally, Josiah understood Lysander’s intentions. With a bitter smile, he said, “I thought that even if you couldn’t forgive me, you could at least accept my efforts. However, it seems that’s still not possible, huh?”
“I’ve told you before. What’s in the past is in the past. I just don’t want to owe others a favor.” Lysander calmly explained to him. “Moreover, you’ve already done more than enough for me. If this continues, I’m afraid it might become a habit, which won’t be beneficial for my future life.”
Once something became a habit, it wasn’t so easy to change it anymore.
Lysander searched her heart and questioned herself inwardly. If I hadn’t clung to the memories of my failed marriage in the past, perhaps when the truth was revealed later, the pain wouldn’t have felt as if I was tearing my own flesh and blood.
There was no need for further explanation because Josiah already had a clear understanding.
“I’ve promised Mr. Thorne I’ll do my utmost to take care of you, whether you accept me or not. If I can’t even handle this minor matter now, wouldn’t that make

me a person who breaks promises?”
His tone was casual, yet his gaze fell into Lysander’s eyes, brimming with an anticipation he couldn’t hide.

Getting someone who could remain ever so calm and composed to reveal such an expression was no easy feat.
Lysander thought back to Josiah’s past demeanor, and with a slight sigh, she said, “I thought you would have given more consideration to the relationship between your family and the Lanister family. With things having turned out this way, wouldn’t it be difficult for Madam Susan?”
Someone had to take care of these matters.
After a moment of serious contemplation, Josiah explained the pros and cons, as well as the cause and effect of the situation.
“Friendship? I treated it as such, but they took it as a license to commit all kinds of crime, doing whatever they pleased under the banner of Guerra Group. For both public and personal reasons, I can’t possibly let Dillon continue to wreak havoc like this.”
Lysander understood his intentions and silently nodded in agreement.
When Josiah saw that she had no objections, he half–jokingly added, “Actually, my mom wasn’t too pleased about my impulsive decision to agree to an arranged marriage. Even though she didn’t say anything, I could tell.”
Lysander seemed lost in thought and said, “Madam Susan really has a keen eye for people. She probably realized that Tiffany was no ordinary person a long time. ago.”
“There’s no such thing,” said Josiah seriously. “She just likes you more.”
His gaze burned intensely as he looked at Lysander.
Unaware, Lysander averted her gaze and continued to walk away. “I’m leaving.”
Josiah thought she was going out to move things and quickly caught up with her, saying, “I can go alone.”
“I’m not trying to snatch with you.” Lysander paused to explain, “I plan to visit Mr.

Alvarez’s house. The nurse just told me that Dillon and his group insisted on entering the village, which really upset Mr. Alvarez. He’s getting on in years. I need to check on him to be at ease.”
Without any hesitation, Josiah stated, “I’ll go with you. It’s a good opportunity to deliver some of the items we bought from the town. Consider it a token of gratitude for Mr. Alvarez’s warm hospitality earlier. Besides, we probably can’t finish all those duck eggs ourselves.”
Seeing that he had quickly grasped the ways of the world, Lysander naturally agreed and didn’t forbid him from following along.
By the time the two of them had gathered their things and arrived at Blaine’s house, the sky had turned completely dark. The yard, unlike their previous visit, was no longer completely visible but was instead secured from the inside with a door latch.
Lysander couldn’t help but feel a bit apprehensive. “Could they have already gone
to rest?”
Josiah was tall, so by merely standing on his tiptoes, he could easily peer over the courtyard wall. He saw the light on in the house and turned his face toward Lysander, saying, “That’s not the case. We can knock.”
As he spoke, he rhythmically knocked a few times on the wooden door.
Upon hearing the commotion, the people inside the house didn’t immediately open the door. Instead, they first approached the window to take a look outside.
Josiah noticed their reactions and quickly said, “Mr. Alvarez, Mrs. Alvarez, it’s me, along with Dr. Thorne.”
Anita finally breathed a sigh of relief, trotting over as she exclaimed, “They’re here! They’re here!”
As the latch was removed with a squeak, she warmly asked, “Dr. Thorne, Mr. Guerra, didn’t you go to the festival of the deities? How come you’re back so soon?”
