Chapter 78
“What were you thinking? You should have moved?”
Dad kicked the lifeless wolf off me and Kade helped me up.
“I wasn’t thinking right, Kade.”
He wrapped me in his arms despite my bloody uniform.
“It’s okay, it’s over,” he said soothingly.
“Kade… that’s my wolf. It’s dead.”
“What? How’s that possible?” He demanded.
I stared at Dad. He ripped the blade from the animal’s gut and shrugged.

“I dotached it.”
Kade stroked my hair and led me from the scene.
“This isn’t over,” Harlow snapped. “The whole school’s going to know you’re a monster!”
“Can I bury her with the wolf? Please?” Dad frowned.
“No, she’s right I don’t belong here.”
“But you’re part wolf on your mother’s side. That should count,” Dad said.
I pointed at the dead black wolf. That wolf’s dead.”
Dad grumbled and busied himself with disposing of the wolf.
We got the door and Kade lifted me into his arms and carried me into the castle.
“Do you still want to go to the omega quarters?” He asked.
“I’m good.”
He kicked his bedroom door in and placed me on the bed.
“Any scratches?” He lifted my arms and kisses my neck.
“No, I giggled.
“I don’t believe you.” He cupped my cheeks and kissed me. “I’m going to inspect every inch of you with my lips.”
I giggled as his lips travelled down my neck.
“How we only have tonight tomather I’m wire bu tomorrow Harlow will have the school haard will hau

me kicked out.”
Oddly leaving McGregor Academy didn’t bother me but my life outside castle walls scared me. At least here I had a bed and food. Though, I needed to be brave and embrace this new chapter.
“I have a feeling Athena knew about my real identity
“Why do you say that?”
“Because I heard her tell Dad that he was hiding the truth from me and when I first mentioned my Mom she was surprised. Now I know it’s because she’s dead.”
Kade rolled on his back while I sat up holding my legs
“Before Leiah, your Mom was the only Alpha female in the pack. No one knows she fell in love with a Hunter. Her parents doing. They were prominent people in the pack.”
“Do you know what happened to them?” Anya never spoke about her family.
I believed she was an only child my whole life.
“Your Grandfather died a couple years ago and your grandmother lives alone in the family home. She’s a bitter old woman rueing her life’s mistakes.”
I doubted she’d want anything to do with me.
“Enough about them, come here gorgeous.”
He lowered me down to the bed.
“Remember what I said about graduating?”
I nodded.
“I don’t have to leave you here anymore. I was losing my head thinking about leaving you in this horrible place for three more years. Come with me.”
“To Sanders?!”
“Yeah,” he said firmly. “You belong there and you belong with me.”
“Would you laugh if I told you I’m mortified by the prospect of being Luna?”
He chuckled and I swatted him.
“I think Sanders has never seen a Luna like you. Besides, anyone has anything funny to say I’ll rip their throats out. It’s so simple, Gabbie.”
1 smiled. “I know I’ll be safe with you. Maybe it won’t be so bad and after making a fool of myself a few times I’ll get the hang of it.”
He closed his lips on mine. “You’ll do great. I love you”

“I love you too.”
For the final battle of the season I didn’t bother to wear my uniform. I was mentally prepared to be evicted from the school though I wanted to know who won. Crippling fear grappled me when I thought about Harlow winning. I didn’t know what the powers of an Alpha Queen would be but I believed she would make me pay dearly for all I did to her.
Kade and I went downstairs in the late afternoon. A man with a low man bun and a scowl waited for us in the foyer.
“Kade, your Father wants you.”
“Is he leaving?” Kade asked.
The man’s hazel eyes lingered on me for a moment before returning to Kade.
“It’s urgent.
Kade sighed heavily and nodded. The man walked out the front door.
“I’ll see you in a little bit. Promise you won’t get into trouble?” He raised his brow.
Holding my hip I narrowed my eyes. “What am I a magnet for trouble?”
He barked out a laugh. “A big one.
He kissed my forehead and left.

I contemplated going to the quarters to pack my bags, but it was such a lovely day out I thought I would explore the Alpha castle grounds. The Alphas were pampered they even had a greenhouse. I wandered around for hours until my legs tired and I walked to the omega quarters.
“Where’ve you been?” Emery asked.
“Wandering…”
“We had to rebuild the stage and set up the lamp poles all over again!”
“Sorry,” I cringed.
The girls in the dorm didn’t have a second to rest because the bell signalling the last battle rang. I grabbed my Henry pack and pulled it over my shirt.
Here we go again.
As the girls piled out Head Mistress Athena walked in. The girls that were left were stunned. This was the first time the powerful woman set foot in the forgot place. Judging by the wrinkle of her nose she wasn’t impressed.
“What the heck?” Emery hissed.

I shrugged.
She scanned the room with several bunked beds before she stopped on Emery and me.
“Miss Chambers, could you remain behind?” She asked
“Are you in trouble?” Emery whispered.
I swallowed. I might be.
almly.
“The battle is starting. You should be out there already,” she announced.
The girls rushed out. Emery stared at me hesitantly.
“I’ll see you outside right?” She asked.
I don’t know.
I could only nod.
was just Athena and I. She walked closer, she kept her hands in front of her where I could see them. This woman helped me escape this school the first time. She was there when Leiah accused me of attacking her. When Harlow kidnapped me she dismissed the rest of the punishment
She’d shown me kindness when she didn’t have to and I would never forget her.
I fiddled with my fingers and exhaled deeply. I stared at the metal planks that made up our ceiling.
“I guess my time here is up.
“Harlow got to the council.” She took another step. “There are academies for Hunters.”
“No, no. I don’t want another school. You knew didn’t you?”
The corner of her mouth raised. “Of course. Adriana was my friend. She told me when she fell in love with a Hunter. I wasn’t surprised. She had the character to do something so irrational. Aside from that you’re her spitting image. I felt obligated to protect you.
“I know I made it hard, huh?”
She smiled but it was washed away fast.
“They want you out tonight. You can’t stay a second longer.”
“What about Kade? Please let me say goodbye, let him know where I’m going.”
If I even know where that is.
“I can afford you an hour after that there’s a bus waiting to take you where you want to go.”
This felt too easy where were the wolves chasing me? A bus waiting for me in the woods to take me where ever I wanted was suspicious.

Chapter 78
“No one’s going to kill me, right?”
Athena shook her head. “No and you can thank your Father for that.”
“Is he gone?”
Athena shrugged. “Who knows? One hour Gabbie.”
I nodded. I burst out of the omega quarters and ran into Emery.
“What’s going on?!” She gasped.
“Ouff, I have to leave.”
“Leave?” She pouted. “Why? Is it because of what happened yesterday?”
“No, I’m just going to say it I’m half Hunter.”
Her eyes grew wide. I thought she was going to turn and run.
That’s why you’re so good at fighting! I’ve never met a Hunter before.”
I smiled. “I wish I could chat but I have to speak to Kade. I’m allowed to leave without anyone trying to

kill me.”
“I’ll go with you.
“What? You want to leave the school?”
Emery shrugged. “I’ve been contemplating it for a while and I think my time here’s up.”
At least I won’t be doing this alone. We raced to the battle field in time to see two large white wolves. exchange blows. The white wolf with a black tip on the tale was Gareth. He locked his jaw around Harlow’s neck and slammed her to the ground.
“He’s going to kill her,” I gasped.
“He will,” Emery added.
This was his chance to get revenge. He pinned her to the ground, despite her struggle Harlow couldn’t get up. Blood stained her white coat. I grabbed my throat and watched helplessly as Gareth finally got what he wanted.
“I can’t watch,” Emery gasped.
Harlow’s white wolf went limb. Gareth pushed back and stepped back. Harlow shifted back to human form and stared at the imposing white wolf. Gareth shifted into a dominant. Something passed between them more than the heated glares.
“What’s happening?” I asked.
“A power steal. Gareth’s the new Alpha King.”
