Chapter 69
Pendent swing
Gabbie POV
“Are you sure you’re feeling okay?” Kade said, trying to change the subject.
“Nice try Kade.”
“I’m genuinely concerned about you.”
He rolled out of bed and walked to the bathroom.
“Then why are you walking away?”
“Can’t a guy use the bathroom?”

I followed him to the bathroom. He threw his head back and groaned.

anted my hands on my hips and narrowed my eyes.

“You’re more than a wolfless…. You’re a Luna. Did you forget?”
I dropped my arms. I was mated to an Alpha which meant I would be co–ruler of the Sanders pack when Kaden is crowned Alpha. I walked back to the room. That was more intimidating than facing Harlow again.
“What? You’ll make a great Luna.”
I didn’t want to get into the Sanders pack not wanting a wolfless omega for a Luna. I gave Kade a pressed smile climbed under the covers and hid my head. It wasn’t long until my mate came after me.
“Come here, sexy.”
I wiggled to get away from him.
“You can’t hide from me.”
“Kade!‘ I laughed. “I’m still in pain!”
“Sorry.”
He captured my face and pressed our lips together.
“Let me kiss it better.”
He closed his lips on mine. I pressed my lips harder against his. I wrapped my arms around him and pushed my chest against his. My erect nipples poked his chest.
Kade laid me on my back and pushed my hair out of my face.

“I don’t tell you enough how

I smiled.
“Stop!”
“Get some rest. We have a long day ahead of us.”

“We need a plan.” Kade said.
We were in the dining room of the Alpha castle while the rest of the Alphas except Leiah, Alex and Gareth. Alex and Gareth had battles today.
“Last night Sanders wolves were too close to grabbing Gabbie.”
Alex slid down his seat. “You owe me. I didn’t know Ryan could hit so hard.”
“You heal faster than him, suck it up.” Kade said.
“Clearly what your little omega needs is a bodyguard and none of you can do it because of battle season commitments,” Leiah said, slicing into a pancake.
“I can take care of myself guys.”
“Are you kidding? You’re a magnet for trouble,” Alex grumbled.
I frowned at him and he shrugged.
“I’ll do it relax.
The guys looked at Leiah with shock. The sudden change still took me off guard but I believe the death of her friend churned something in her. Maybe she was done with all the hate.
“No offense Leiah- Gareth started.
“Don’t. I won’t hurt her. If I still wanted her dead, why would I tell you about Harlow snatching her?”
Kade reached for my hand under the table and squeezed.
“Are you comfortable with this?”
Comfortable with a babysitter? I wasn’t comfortable with it the first time and I wasn’t now. Though, to put Kade at ease I nodded.
“I need to find my Dad though.”
“They can’t find him. They know he’s here. never mind.” Alex trailed.
What are these guys hiding?

are conspiring together? Unbelievable!”
“No one’s conspiring Gabbie. Now isn’t the place for this conversation,” Kade said.
“I thought we were bonding. I thought we could tell each other anything. Gareth said in mock offence.
Alex pushed his chair back and groaned. “Don’t be dramatic. I have a battle soon. I’ll help you find Erik after. I know you need answers.
Kade had training. His next opponent would be revealed after tonight. Leiah dragged me around like her puppy, taking me to where the gammas worked to ensure tonight battle was a success. Then she took me to her room to touch up her make–up.

“This is fun and all but I need to find my Dad. I can’t sit around and wait for Alex.”
“Males,” she said dabbing her cheeks with blush. “Always think we’ll sit around and wait for them. The guys should be busy training now.” She pulled out a tube of lipstick. “Got any ideas where to start?”
I found him in the forest would it be wrong to assume I’d find him in another one?
Leiah wasn’t thrilled about wading into the forest with designer shoes. I needed her heightened senses to track him down. What would I ask him? Athena accused him of lying to me. I could start there and then prompt him to tell me where he’s been all this time.
“Your Dad has a weird scent,” Leiah said.
“What do you mean?”
She wrinkled her nose. “Not human, not wolf either.
1 stopped. Leiah continued. Mom was human. She’d feared wolves all her life. Dad was the wolf but since I saw him again he hadn’t shifted once. When Kade and Alex attacked he pulled out a knife instead of shifting. When the wild wolf attacked me he didn’t shift either. He used his weapon. Was my Dad wolfless like me? Or was he an omega?
“He’s this way but… another wolf is roaming around.”
“Harlow?!” I gasped.
She shook her head and shut her eyes as the wind blew in her face.
“Not her. Follow this path and you’ll find your Dad. Scream if you need me.”
Was she abandoning me? Then she was gone trotting down the opposite footpath.
“Thanks,” I mumbled.
Thugged myself and continued straight, hoping not to run into any animals that could claw my eyes
oul.
“Gabriella,” Dad’s rough voice called. “What are you doing out here? Isn’t your boyfriend supposed to be taking care of you?”

She cleaned the blood off his long blade. I swallowed.
“Is that from the wolf?”
He stared at me and then back at the blade he was cleaning.
“No. It got away.”
I walked closer. He sat on a log which left me no choice but to sit.
“I know, Gabbie, I know.” He kept his eyes on the blade. “I fucked up. This wolf is my fault and you being here is my fault.”
“What? You brought the wolf here?”
“No… it came after you.” He set the blade down, locked his fingers and looked at me. “You should have gotten your wolf after sixteen. That’s when that thing started roaming around. It has no human side. I’ve tracked it from different towns this is the closest I’ve come to it but I can’t kill it.”
“Why is this important?”
He ran a hand through his hair. “Kid, I’m not a wolf, your Mom was.”
I stood. “That’s a lie. Mom’s human and she’s always been scared of shifters. After you left Alex’s Dad made sure we were always protected.”
Dad stood too. “After this, I swear I’ll never lie again. That woman isn’t your Mother.”
I froze as if stunned into paralysis by a firm slap. That wasn’t true. I knew her my whole life. There weren’t any gaps and she hadn’t treated me badly aside from the usual Mother–daughter squabbles. She’s been rejecting my calls. She didn’t wait a week to disconnect her phone. I tugged at my hair as if to make sure this wasn’t a dream.
“You’re joking
“I wish I was. Anya isn’t your Mother. We were never married. It was all a lie.”
“No!”
“Gabbie let me explain.”
I raised my hands. “I don’t think I want answers anymore.
“Sweetheart there’s a lot you need to know. It doesn’t stop here.”
Tears stung my eyes. Is that why Athena was surprised when I mentioned my Mother? She knew Anya wasn’t my Mom and she kept her mouth shut.
“Sweetheart-”
“Don’t! Don’t call me that!”
