Chapter 54
It smells like you
Kade grabbed a clean shirt from his closet while I dressed in my uniform. He grumbled as he stalked to the door. He yanked it open. Alex waited impatiently on the other side.
“They sent you of all people to get me?” Kade barked.
Alex took me in for a moment before returning to Kale.
“Who was attacked?” Kade demanded.
“Sabrina,” Alex replied. “Ryan too.”
“Damn it,” he muttered.
He turned to me. “Gabbie_”

“Let me check out the scene I won’t touch anything.”
“No.” Alex and Kade in unison.
They stared at one another for a brief second.
“Alphas only and the wolf could still be out there,” Alex said.
“It’s getting ballsy attacking during daylight.”
“Ryan’s my friend I want to know what happened to him.”
“He was your one–time babysitter,” Alex said.
“A bad one if he let the baby get slammed against a tree.”
“What?” Alex exclaimed. “When did that happen.”
“Uh. It’s in the past. I’ll check out anyway so you might as well take me.”
“Giving me orders now huh?” Kade took my hand in his,
“You can’t be serious,” Alex said he walked away before either of us could respond.
A small part of me was glad he cared even a little bit about me.
Ryan got it worse he got a few bites and claw marks so he went to the nurse. The other girl Sabrina had few bumps to deal with. We were at the site of the incident. I wore Kade’s hoodie to hide my uniform which gave away my rank. I watched as he spoke to Sabrina, a beta with long blonde hair and crystal blue eyes. She spoke with a bright smile for a girl who’d been beaten up.

“Does that make you jealous?” Alex whispered in my ear.
“No. I’m not the jealous type, unlike an Alpha female I know.”
Kade put his hand on Sabrina’s shoulder and squeeze. I narrowed my eyes. He doesn’t have to touch her!
“Don’t like that, huh?” Alex laughed,
“Alex, why do you care?”
“I care about you, Gabbie. More than that and you know it.”
“Stop.”
“You know it.”
1 straightened my back and kept my gaze on the open field. Things would have been different if I had a wolf and I got here sooner or if we told each other how we felt before he went away. Would it matter because fate already decreed that Kade would be my mate?
“Why didn’t you tell me someone slammed you against a tree?” He demanded.
“Doesn’t matter.
–
“You told Kade instead?” He snapped.
“He v
was there. He was the reason I wasn’t broken in two.”
“You didn’t tell me what Leiah did either, why? Don’t you trust me?”
Tears burned my eyes and I battled to keep them from falling. When I turned to him the battle felt like a losing one.
“I didn’t want to upset you. Kade was always there when I needed him. He was probably stalking me.” I sniffled. “Would you have believed me when I told you Leiah attacked me?”

“Of course.”
“So why don’t you believe me now? She came into your room, Harlow baited her and she attacked me. I don’t have a wolf I did what I had to do.”
We stared each other down.
“Gabbie,” Kade’s voice broke the tension.
I tucked myself under his arm. I felt right there. Alex stared at me longingly before looking dangerously at Kade.
“Don’t cross your boundaries, Henry.”
“Whatever Sanders.”

“Is everything okay?” I asked him.
“It will be,” he said quickly.
“Listen, I tried speaking to Leiah. She won’t drop the charges,” Alex said.
“Come on Alex, don’t you have anything on her?” Kade grumbled.
“Have you met her?” Alex growled. “We’ll talk about it tomorrow. It’s the council that decides the punishment anyway.”
“Fine,” Kade said.
“Alex?”
Alex raised his brow at me.
“Thanks,” I said.
He nodded.
Kade dragged me away before more was said.
“You’re spending the night right?” Kade asked as we walked back to McGregor Castle.
“Yeah, I should get my things. I’ll meet you there in a few hours.”
He kissed me then we parted.
“Where are you going?” Emery asked when she saw me pack up my things.
There were only a few girls in the dorm room. Blair wasn’t one of them.
“Kade’s for the night.”
“I’m glad you have a mate that loves you for you.”
My brows dipped. “Did you tell Tristan to screw it?”
Emery nodded and gave me a small smile. “His mate attacked me again. I liked him Gabbie but he’s ashamed of me. He can’t see passed my rank.”
“He doesn’t deserve you.”
She let out a shaky breath and settled on my bed. “He’s apologized a lot but I don’t want to be his mistress. After his father brought back the omega rituals. I don’t want anything to do with him now. He’s proven he can’t fight for me.”
“If he fights for you are you willing to take him back?”

I left the quarters as everyone left to have dinner. It was dark but I liked the covert darkness afforded me. Harlow was still on the prowl. No one bothered me when I got to the Alpha Castle.
Kade wasn’t in his room when I got there. There was a draft in the room. I realized there was a balcony. I walked through and found Kade gripping the bars, only wearing black sweatpants. I pressed my face on his warm back and circled his waist. His hand gripped my locked hands.
“Everything all right?”
“I can’t stop thinking,” he said.
“I noticed you’ve been troubled. What’s wrong?”
“So much. That wolf for one.”
“Tell me, babe.”
“It’s difficult Gabbie. Its scent… is so familiar.”
I pulled back and he turned around to face me but his features were heavy.
“That’s great! You know who it is.”
“Gabbie, it smells like you.”
“Me?” I gasped.
I waited for him to laugh but he remained dead set. He couldn’t believe I was out there attacking other wolves, right?
