Chapter 167 You Care About Me
In the afternoon, Emelie was engrossed in her tablet. She was meticulously organizing data when Patricia suddenly came up beside her.
“Hmm, looks like something’s not right here,” Patricia commented casually, pointing at the screen.
Emelie, taking Patricia’s word for it, looked over. “oh? Where’s the mistake?
Patricia gestured vaguely, using it as a segue to chat and gossip
Leaning in, she casually asked, “So, you’re the one who left that mark on Mr. Middleton’s face last night, huh?”
Sensing Patricia’s real intention, Emelie chose not to indulge her further
Speaking softly, Patricia persisted, “What made you think you could do that?
Emelie didn’t have any justification. It was William who lost control after a few drinks.
Patricia snorted, saying, “You’re quite bold.”
Emelie glanced at William across the room. Despite it only being the next day, there was no sign of the altercation on his face.
He seemed composed and sober now. Dressed sharply in a black sust, he was completely different from last night
When William caught her eye, Emelie quickly returned her attention to her work.
But it also hinted that Patricia had seen William the previous night, leaving room for speculation about whether they spent the night together.
Feeling unsure herself, Emelie couldn’t help but think that others might be in the same boat.
The project was quite extensive. With many different components, not everyone worked closely together.
For example, Emelie, who was responsible for data detection, and recurding, only joined the team briefly at the beginning to meet Mrs. Parker from ZI’s side.
Throughout the entire afternoon, she didn Lencounter William again. It afforded her a sense of comfort,
Later that night, back at the hotel, she organized the data into tables and promptly sent it back to the team. Samuel messaged her privately, expressing gratitude for her hard work
Emelie took the chance to ask him about the laboratory
“There was a fire, and we lost some data. They re working on salvaging what they can,” Samuel replied.
Emmelie couldn’t help but think William had gone too far
Samuelchecked in once more, asking, “Mr. Middleton didn’t give you a hard time, did he?”
Reading his message, Emelie recalled William’s words from the previous night and decided to address the issue directly. “Are you engaged?” she asked.
Though she initially toyed with a more subtle approach, Emelie felt that being straightforward was a sign of respect for Samuel’s usual sincerity.
If he did have a lancée, it would be best for them to maintain some distance. Emelie understood the importance of boundaries for their future interactions Samoel didn’t reply, but after five minutes, he called her. Emelle quickly answered.
“How did you find out about the fance thing?” Samuel asked
Emelie replied, “Just heard some rumors. Since you’ve never mentioned it before, I was a bit surprised. I’m just asking casually. If you’re not comfortable answering, forge brought it up
“No, it’s fine” Samuel’s voice remained gentle, reflecting his amiable nature. I do have one!
Emelie stayed silent
Samuel chuckled lightly as he clarified. But it’s just an arrangement made by our families. So, it’s not really a big deal.
“Neither of us has any feelings for each other anyway. That woman actually has a thing for my older brother, Bryan They’ve gotten pretty close lately, so it’s even less of a possibility between us,”
“Ah, I see.” Emelie was reassured that Samuel wasn’t the person William had portrayed him to be.
Her mind drifted to Patricia. It occurred to her that Bryan might have other women besides Patricia in his life,
Alternatively, perhaps Patricia was insignificant to Bryan, so he passed her off to William without much thought.
While she mused, Samuel chucked softly on the other end, as if seeing the seeds he had planted finally beginning to sprout
“Emelie, I’m actually glad you asked me about this,” he said
Emelie was puzzled “Huh“Why?”
“It shows you care about me.”
