Chapter 166 Kidnapped
William’s voice turned slightly cold. “Jayden ordered all the specialty dishes from Wimstour City. They’re heavy on oll and spice. Can you handle that?”
nelle couldn’t handle it, which was why she barely touched her food. But why was he so concerned anyway?
Willan wasted no time and made a call. “Send some lighter dishes to private room 888. We’ll need them in ten minutes.”
Emelie couldn’t help but stare at him. Was he deliberately arranging food for her?
“Mr.Middleton, you truly know how to surprise me,” she said. He was even more unpredictable than she had imagined.
After their argument last night, it was unexpected for him to suddenly show concern about whether she could eat or not.
Willam shot her a glance. “No need to be surprised. You have to stay alive to answer my questions.”
It became clear that there was a motive behind his actions.
Emelle couldn’t move, so she gave up and sat at the table while holding her stomach.
The private dining room in the high–end hotel exuded an indescribable yet delightful fragrance.
William didn’t waste any time. Regardless of whether she had recovered or not, the questions kept coming. “How did the miscarriage happen?”
“And here we go again,” thought Emelie.
Quirking her lips, she asked, “Mr. Middleton, are you suddenly choosing to believe me now?
“Did I give you permission to interrogate me? William shot back
Emelie looked up at him. After a few seconds, she gave him a dubious explanation. “I was kidnapped.”
William frowned quickly. “What?”
“I was kidnapped. The kidnappers wanted ransom. I tried calling you, Mr. Middleton, but you hung up on me. So, they pushed me onto the read, and 1 got hit by a car.”
William hesitated visibly. Then, his expression grew cold as he stared at Emelie’s blank face.
After a moment, he spoke again, his voice colder, “That’s impossible. I never hung up on your call
Emelle found his statement absurd. “Mr. Middleton, don’t act like I’m so special to you.”
“I’m telling you that I never hung up on your calls,” William insisted firmly
Emelie let out a sigh. ” you say so, fine”
To William, Emelie was like a thorn on the rose. Though seemingly obedient, every wood she spoke was like a prick
William walked up to her. “Emele, you’re playing games with me”
He didn’t bellow her.
“What now? Are you trying to shift the blame for the merge onto me, hoping to guilt–tripme?
“The ten minutes are up. It looks like your commands aren’t as effective as you thought, Mr. Middleton,” Emelie remarked as the food hadn’t arrived yet.
But just as she finished speaking, there was a knock at the door. The food indeed came right on time
A waiter wheeled in a cart with dishes–chicken noodle soup, a salad with vinaigrette dressing, and assorted fruit slices, all light and suitable for someone with gastric pain “Mr. Middleton, are you eating?” she asked casually, just as an afterthought Emelie grabbed her spoon and dug in
She was really hungry, and her gastric pain was acting up. But she felt better after having something warm.
Samuel sent her a voice message on WhatsApp. Emelle clicked on it absentmindedly, forgetting her phone’s volume, so it blared out loud.
“Emelle, I’ve landed. Totally forgot to remind you, but don’t forget to eat three meals a day, no matter how hectic things get Take care of yourself. It’d be a shame for me to go all the way to my brother’s for those herbal remedies if you’re not looking after yourself”
Emelie replied with a quick, “Got it”
“Seems like Mr. Swanson is quite clingy. Are you okay with checking in with him like that? William chuckled softly, “Can’t say I remember you updating me like that before.” Emelie set her phone down. “Well, maybe I wasn’t cr genough to you, Mr. Middleton, so I didn’t meet your expectations. My bad.”
William almost instantly understood what she meant. A smirk curved at the corner of his lips, but his mockery was colder than mere indifference. “I didn’t neglect you because you weren’t clingyenough.”
Emebe didn’t say anything else. Earlier, she was feeling unwell, which made her a bit short–tempered. But after some food, she was back to her usual self.
She finished a bowl of chicken noodle soup and left everything else untouched. “I have work this afternoon,” she said, getting up “So I need to go back and prepare. Mr. Middleton
William seemed even less interested in spending time with her. Before she could finish, he had already left the private room.
Emelie’s expression remained com as she walked back to her room to retrieve her things.
In the elevator, she took about to seconds to think
Was it really because she wasn’t clingy enough that he had become distant and sought out Daphne? What else was there between them?
