However, what truly captured her attention was Howard, who was emerging from the house. He was pushing Molly, who still be in a wheelchair for some time, and walked over with a radiant smile on his face.
Molly’s condition was improving quite well, but after such a severe illness, it was hard for her to bounce back to her former state in a short period of time. Hence, she refrained from walking around too much following the doctor’s advice.
She had barely caught sight of her daughter in the distance, and she almost started walking towards her. It was Howard who managed to dissuade her from doing so.
Upon seeing the couple coming out to greet her directly, Lysander didn’t forget her manners. She promptly returned their smile, though there was still a hint of discomfort etched between her brows.
No matter what they said, she just couldn’t consider this house as her home. The home where she grew up was somewhere else, a place that may not have been spacious, but was indeed warm and cozy.
Howard was the first to speak, “Lysa, you’re here. Come on in. Susan is here too, she was delighted when she heard you are coming.”
Hearing this, Laura was slightly puzzled. “You have guests at your place? Did we come at a wrong time?”

She glanced at her husband, feeling that something was a bit off.
Maverick also furrowed his brows, unsure of what was going on.
Howard hurriedly clarified, “She’s not a stranger, and Lysander knows her too. She’s Josiah’s mother. She happened to be visiting when she heard that Molly was discharged from the hospital, so she came to visit.”
Only then did Maverick understand, and his expression significantly relaxed. Then, he nodded and said, “I remember Susan used to be quite fond of Lysa.”
Upon learning that Josiah’s mother was also present, Lysander breathed a sigh of relief. “It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen Madam Susan,” she said. “I should take this opportunity to greet her.”
Ever since the incident with the private jet, they hadn’t seen much of each other, but she never forgot how Madam Susan had stood up for her.
Since Madam Susan was around tonight, things should go smoothly.
With that, the group entered the living room.
Upon seeing Michelle still walking with crutches, Howard quickly urged her to sit down first.
Michelle noticed that many of the elders were still standing, so she felt somewhat embarrassed. However, Molly gently reassured her, “Don’t worry, Michelle. Treat this place like it’s your own home. There’s no need to feel uncomfortable.”
Lysander also gave her a meaningful look, signaling her to keep her cool.
Only then did Michelle take a seat at the edge of the sofa. “Thank you, Mrs. Thome.”

them and her sister, with only a coffee table separating her from her biological parents.
The atmosphere had improved slightly from their previous encounter in the café. Yet, it remained particularly quiet, with both sides feeling somewhat awkward.

Just then, Susan, who had gone to check on the kitchen, returned. Upon seeing the large gathering, she immediately grasped the situation. As she knew both parties, she took the initiative to sit in the middle. breaking the silence. She was so engrossed in the situation that she didn’t even talk to her son.
“Lysander, it’s been a while since we last met, you look thinner now. Have you been neglecting your health due to work? You’re still young, so don’t push yourself too hard. I heard you were coming, so I took some time and made you a soup myself. Make sure to eat a lot later.”
Lysander knew she genuinely cared for her. Touched, she responded, “Thank you, Madam Susan. I’ve been doing quite well recently. I am just a bit busy. You don’t need to worry about me.”
Madam Susan asked again, “I heard that Josiah went to the Thorne Constructions and Energies to help you out. Is he of any use? Don’t hesitate to ask if you need him for anything.”
Lysander was candid. “Mr. Guerra has been of great help to me, and I’m especially grateful to him.”
Maverick and Laura had no beef with this former mother–in–law of their daughter. They could even carry

a conversation with her, which made Josiah seem somewhat redundant.
Howard noticed that Josiah had been consistently ignored, which he didn’t think was right. Thus, taking advantage of the moment when Madam Susan was fussing over Lysander, he interjected, “Since everyone is here, why don’t you stay, Josiah? You haven’t had a chance to enjoy your mother’s cooking in a while.”
Then, both the speaker and the people listening to him instinctively turned their gaze towards Maverick.
Josiah pondered over the sudden change in attitude of this father who Lysander was so close to, so he refrained from making any hasty reply.
The same applied to Howard. Indeed, he was the master of the house, but today’s gathering was meant to resolve past grievances between the two families and unite them as one. Of course, the most crucial part was Maverick and his family’s attitude.
Susan knew that Josiah was in the wrong, and even though she wanted to keep him around, she found herself unable to speak up.
Josiah didn’t want to spoil the atmosphere and was about to make an excuse to leave. Unexpectedly, Maverick beat him to it. “Don’t just stand there,” he said. “When we got out of the car, I forgot to ask you to open the trunk. The gifts are still in there.”
Upon hearing that they had actually brought gifts, Howard hurriedly said, “That’s really kind of you. I just invited you over for a casual meal, so there was no need to bring gifts. You’ve really gone out of your way.”
Maverick disagreed, “Well, I am coming over to your place for dinner, and it wouldn’t make sense to show up empty–handed.”
He gestured towards Josiah and said, “Come over here, and help me carry the gifts. I can’t take everything
on my own.”
Astonished, Lysander listened with wide eyes and a dropped jaw. She could hardly believe that those words had come from Maverick’s mouth.

Back at the hospital entrance, he had indeed turned down Josiah’s offer to help. The so–called ‘carrying the gifts‘ was essentially a way to give Josiah a way out.
Josiah caught on and didn’t hesitate and rolled up his sleeves to lend a hand.
When they returned, Maverick was leading the way with his hands empty. Trailing behind him was Josiah with each hand carrying a large bag of items. He was the epitome of a handyman.
Although things were already quite unusual, Maverick went against the norm and gave him a few extra instructions. “The tea set is for Mr. Howard, and the medicinal herbs are for Mdm. Molly. They’re just a token of goodwill and not particularly valuable. Make sure to separate them when you put them down.”
Josiah believed that he was being tested, so he dared not slack off. He was even more earnest in his actions than when he was reviewing proposals.
Upon seeing this, Howard and Molly hurriedly exchanged pleasantries with Maverick, “It’s the thought that counts. When I was discharged, the doctor also advised that I should take more supplements in the future. I was planning to buy these, but I didn’t expect you to be so thoughtful…”
During their conversation, Lysander’s gaze was fixed on her sister and mother.
Michelle was clueless, so her gaze towards them was even more astonished than her sister’s. She had no choice but to quietly ask Laura, “Mom, what’s going on with Dad? I remember he always disliked Josiah. Why does he seem like a different person today?”
“I’m not sure either.” Laura maintained a calm demeanor, despite being clueless herself. She simply looked at the busy Josiah and said, “Perhaps your father has come up with a plan. Or maybe, he’s come to terms with it after seeing Josiah bustling around today.”
She said something that even she herself didn’t believe.
Mmm… Something is definitely off. Lysander’s worry was evident as she clasped her hands together. It wasn’t until a servant from the kitchen announced that food was ready that she slightly regained her composure. It was during this time that she helped Michelle to stand up.
Josiah slowed down to keep up by her side as they leisurely walked together.
