Chapter 602 Josiah Treats Lysander Differently

“Perhaps it was because they noticed the sear on your arm, the one left behind from the burn wounds last time.”
Josiah understood what she meant. “Let them talk. Let’s go. Get in the car.”
Lysander maintained her politeness and said, “We’re not headed in the same direction today. I’m planning to visit the Thome manor.”
Josiah remained expressionless and nodded. “That’s fine. I should visit my mother anyway. It’s still on the
way.”
Lysander didn’t bother to think if he had changed his plans on a whim and responded coolly, “My new driver reported for duty today.”
“Today’s her first day. She probably needs to get familiar with the company car. Besides, since I’m already here, driving two cars just adds to the emissions. With the country’s focus on energy saving and emission reduction, as good citizens of Harborbrook, we should do what we can.”
As Josiah spoke, he instinctively reached out to take her bag, as he had outside the meeting room before. But she subtly sidestepped him and emerged from behind the partition, evading his gesture calmly.
Josiah had long grown accustomed to Lysander’s aloofness in public. He quickly withdrew his hand that was hanging in mid–air, sparing himself any potential embarrassment.
Seeing that he was determined to give her a ride, Lysander lowered her head and quickly walked to the parking space by the roadside to avoid further public scrutiny.
Josiah followed her.
The receptionists, who were initially engrossed in discussing why Josiah had come to the company, all widened their eyes as they watched. Their faces were filled with disbelief.
Josiah could have easily caught up with Lysander if he wanted to, as he was tall and had long legs. However, instead of insisting on walking with her, he went ahead and opened the door to the passenger seat, making a gentlemanly gesture for her to get in.
This spectacle left the employees in the lobby dumbfounded, each one doubting their own eyes. They were all ordinary staff members in the company, not like the executives who attended the meeting and had personally witnessed how Josiah was extraordinarily protective of Lysander. Their worldview was completely overturned.
Only after Lysander got into the car and Josiah returned to the driver’s seat, dutifully acting as her chauffeur, did someone finally speak, albeit shakily. “This is even more outrageous than the rumors. I heard before that Mr. Guerra treats Lysander differently, even going as far as to carry her bag for her. I didn’t believe it at the time.”
“This is more than just carrying her bag. Did you see what Mr. Guerra did? He personally opened the car
door for her!”
“Even his fiancée wouldn’t get this treatment. I heard that Mr. Guerra left Ms. Lanister for her. Seems it might be true…”

her work, you should stop going out of your way for me. I know she works for you. You surely know best when she’s fully settled in.”
Josiah could sense the fatigue in her voice and asked with concern, “Have you had a busy day?”
“Not really. Monica helped me out a lot.”
Lysander hesitated to speak and stopped herself from mentioning the rumors at the company. After what had just happened, the rumors of her inappropriate relationship with Josiah would surely increase.
If Josiah were to find out, those spreading the rumors would definitely be punished.
Punishment might only make the rumors spread wider.
Lysander rubbed her temples, feeling somewhat weary.
ron.
Josiah noticed her expression out of the corner of his eye and had a vague inkling of what was going on. His gaze subtly darkened in response.
Lysander was preoccupied with thoughts of the gathering at the Thorne manor that evening, so much so that she didn’t have the time to pay attention to his reaction. It wasn’t until Maverick’s call came through that she nervously brought the phone to her ear to answer.
Dad
“Lysa,
are you off work?”
“I just got off work.”
She was unsure of Maverick’s thoughts. Asking about the matter would only make her anxious.
Maverick’s voice sounded as usual, without any anger or sadness. “Good. I just wanted to tell you that your mom and I had gone home today and have already brought the things from the hospital back. We’re about to pick up your sister and head to the Thorne manor. Have you left yet? We should go together.”
“I’ve already left the company.” Lysander asked, “With so many things from the hospital, how did you bring them all back? By taxi?”
“No, it was…” Maverick’s voice sounded a little weak. “It was Mr. Guerra’s secretary who drove us home.”
Lysander looked toward Josiah.
Josiah noticed her gaze and questioned her with his eyes as if asking, “What’s wrong?”
Lysander shook her head.
“…The distances from where we both are to their home is about the same, so we’ll likely arrive at the same time. Without you, your mom and I wouldn’t know what to say to Mr. Howard and his wife. The couple are quite warm and sincere. They’re really good to you and even went out of their way to visit your
sister.”
Lysander softly responded with a hum.
“Dad, you don’t need to wait for me outside. I’m a bit far away…” She tried to cover up her current situation.

As Josiah drove without taking his eyes off the road, he slowly spoke up. “We’ll be passing by their neighborhood on the way. Let’s give Mr. and Mrs. Thorne a lift instead of making them take a taxi.”
His tone was casual as if he had forgotten Maverick’s attitude.
Lysander quickly moved her phone away and covered the phone, afraid that Maverick would hear his
voice.
Josiah, with his own logic, continued, “Do you think your dad won’t realize we’ve been in contact? Even if you hide it now, he’ll figure it out once he talks to Mr. Howard,”
He clearly already knew about the gathering between the two families that night.
Moreover, Carol driving her parents and sister home that day showed her father wasn’t completely rejecting Josiah. Although there was a hint of unease when Maverick told Lysander about it, it didn’t seem like he was particularly averse to it.
Lysander was somewhat taken aback. Last time, her father even hit Josiah over the head with a brick, causing him to need several stitches. Why had his attitude changed so suddenly?
“What are you looking at me for?”
Lysander withdrew her gaze. Pressing her phone to her ear, she said, “Dad, you, mom, and Michelle don’t need to take a taxi. I… I’ll give you a lift. It’s more convenient that way.”
“You?” Maverick chuckled. “You’ve already got a taxi?”
“…No, not a taxi.”
“Then whose car are you in?”
Lysander pressed her lips together, remaining silent.
Josiah leaned over and spoke into the phone. “Sir, it’s me.”
There was a moment of silence.
Maverick paused for a moment before raising his voice, his tone sounding as if he was suppressing his anger. “Lysa, are you two…”
Lysander knew his anger wasn’t directed at her. She braced herself and responded, “There’s been a lot going on at the company recently, and there are many things I’m inexperienced with. Josiah has been helping me, but only with work–related matters. Today, he happened to be heading home to visit his mother, so it’s on the way.”
