Chapter 550 He Was Teaching Her
Once they were alone, they both couldn’t stay still any longer. Lysander was the first to turn around and. return to her room.
Josiah closely followed behind.
The room had already been tidied up by the cleaning lady. The clutter and debris from the broken chair that morning had vanished without a trace. Even the slightest hint of Aurora’s presence had disappeared.
Lysander walked over and ran her fingers over the now smooth bedsheet, feeling a wave of dejection wash over her.
The events of the past few days were indeed nothing more than a surreal dream from which she had now awakened.
Lysander mumbled to herself, “If I had known we would part ways so quickly, I should’ve at least asked Ms. Lionhart for her contact information.”
Josiah said, “I have her phone number. If you’re thinking about Aurora, you can reach out to her.”
“Never mind.” Lysander seemed quite understanding. “Babies always prefer their mother’s company, and besides, Ms. Lionhart will be really busy.”

Josiah agreed, “I didn’t expect Elio to go to such lengths. However, the Lionhart family is powerful and not one to be trifled with. It’s not necessarily a given that Nieva will be at a disadvantage.”
What he discussed pertained to matters of inheritance. After all, Elio wasn’t a real member of the Lionhart family.
What Lysander was pondering, however, was something else entirely. “Once a man’s feelings change, he can become utterly heartless toward the woman he no longer loves, let alone now when his heart is probably filled with thoughts of his new family.”
Josiah’s expression was somber, no longer bringing up the topic of Nieva’s marriage. Instead, he asked, “Do you want me to help her?”
“Your relationship with Elio seems pretty good, isn’t it?”
“In the world of business, there are no friends. Simply, the fewer people you offend, the less trouble you’ll encounter.”
Lysander remained silent.
So, Josiah asked again, “Do you want me to help Nieva?”
“How can you help?” Lysander asked. “Elio might not be so easy to deal with.”
“He only has to deal with the Lionhart family for now, but if I were to get involved, he might need to think
twice.”
Lysander asked, “What would happen then? Chaos and disaster?”
“What kind of ending are you hoping for him?”

“Will whatever I wish for happen?”
“I could give it a try.”
Despite saying that he would try, the certainty in his tone was telling.

Lysander shook her head. “Let’s not. After all, their love before was true. What if Ms. Lionhart can’t bear it…”
Josiah chuckled. “True, not every woman is like you, able to make a clean break without a hint of hesitation.”
“Are you blaming me?”
“I was complimenting you.” Josiah contemplated for a moment before saying, “Your ability to easily move on is impressive. Had you not pursued medicine, you might have been quite suited for the business world.”
Lysander sat in the empty room, a sense of inexplicable loss–washing over her. “I need to work now. You can do as you wish.”
When one had too much time on their hands, they tended to overthink. Thus, she hoped to keep herself occupied with work.
Josiah remained silent, simply retrieving his laptop and settling down on the couch behind the desk.
The two of them dealt with their respective company business, which were independent of each other.
Once Lysander dedicated herself wholeheartedly to a task, she would completely shut out the outside world. She remained seated from morning till afternoon, barely lifting her head a few times. Even her lunch was ordered by Josiah through room service.
The meal was similar to what she had previously eaten in the dining room, consisting of a bowl of soup and several dishes elected by a nutritionist. Surprisingly, it suited her taste, and she found herself eating more than she had before.
Josiah ate the same as Lysander, quietly noting the few dishes she barely touched so that he could remove them from the menu.
Thorne Constructions and Energies had been operating for many years and was considered a large company in Harborbrook. The internal operations and structure of the company were far more complex than initially anticipated.
After what felt like an eternity, Lysander’s mind began to grow foggy. She lifted her head and took a sip of water from the cup she was holding.
In the next moment, she froze.
The water in the cup was the same as she had poured before she sat down. How could it still be warm at this point? Even the taste was sweet.
From behind, Josiah casually remarked, “I saw your cup when I was getting water, so I filled it for you. There happened to be some honey by the side cabinet.”
Lysander was so engrossed in her work that she didn’t even realize when he had gotten up to do all of that.”

“Thank you,” she said, maintaining a measured tone.
Josiah had given up hope of persuading Lysander to abandon her formal demeanor. He simply said, “When I put down my cup carlier, I caught a glimpse of the documents you were reading.”
Lysander didn’t respond immediately, waiting for him to continue. This field was his strength, and he wouldn’t have made a comment without good reason.
Josiah tapped on the documents on her desk. “There’s an issue with this Lennox Escobar.”
“Are you referring to the head of the marketing department? This person seemed to have brought in quite a bit of business for the company and has consistently performed well in the annual evaluations. I just felt that the growth of the marketing department didn’t quite align with his style.”
Lysander was indeed suspicious, which was why she kept going over the document again and again. However, she couldn’t pinpoint any issues.
Most of the time, first impressions tend to be accurate. However, she hadn’t studied business in the past so she couldn’t really tell.
Upon seeing her quick discovery, Josiah sharply questioned, “What do you think is off about him?”
Lysander mused, “His individual performance is too outstanding, as if the entire marketing department exists to serve him. Moreover, the establishment of this department should not merely be to maintain the existing market share, right? The company’s operations are too reliant on one person. If anything were to happen to him, the company would be in a terrible situation. Also, if he were to use this leverage to make unreasonable demands on the company, or exploit this client information for other purposes, he could easily place the blame on the company.”
A situation like this would have been much easier to handle if it had occurred in a hospital.
After meticulously reviewing the medical records, surgical reports, and various documents, each one was cross–checked according to the procedure. Whoever was found to be responsible would indeed be held accountable. There was no escaping it.
However, the situation with a private company was different.
There was so much room for maneuvering, and given that Lysander was still not very knowledgeable about the business, the loopholes that Lennox could exploit were simply innumerable.
月
“You’re right,” he said. “The role of the marketing department is to expand market share and secure orders. However, having all orders depend on one person is too risky. It’s like a double–edged sword–it could bring success or failure.”
Josiah confirmed her suspicions, while also revealing a hint of admiration.
She had only spent two days pouring over these documents, yet the fact that she could come up with such an idea truly demonstrated her talent.
He sifted through the documents, pulling out a few to show her. “Perhaps you might want to review the latest financial reports from various departments,” he suggested. “These are all new information since I’ve stepped back.”
When he was around, the senior executives of Thorne Constructions and Energies would greet him with beaming smiles. But now that Lysander, a newcomer with no renown, had taken his place, it was hard to

guarantee they wouldn’t see her as a pushover.
Before their official meeting, these documents served as the best method to test her capabilities and boundaries.
Lysander meticulously reviewed the reports again, her vision nearly going blur from the sheer volume. Despite her thoroughness, she was unable to pinpoint the specific problem.
This was far more challenging than reviewing medical records. She simply couldn’t pinpoint the root of the problem, and there wasn’t a patient available to provide a verbal account of their condition.
When Josiah saw her continuously massage her temples with concern, he pointedly highlighted a string of numbers and said, “There seems to be something off with the marketing department’s budget.”
