Chapter 129
Maximus! She wondered why he was here too.
Naomi was surprised to see Maximus in the car beside her.
Maximus grinned. “Are you here on a business trip too?”
Naomi nodded. “Yes! I need to gather some information for a case.”
Maximus smiled faintly. “Let’s have dinner together since we’ve bumped into each other.”
Before Naomi could respond, a black Maybach suddenly stopped next to the car. The driver’s window rolled down, and a voice came through. “Sure! I’ve already made a reservation.”
Recognizing Brendan’s voice, Naomi turned to look at the Maybach, only to see him behind the driver’s seat with a cigarette in hand. His gaze was cold, looking as if he had caught her red–handed.
Maximus smiled when he saw Brendan. “Brendan is here too.”
Brendan took a drag of his cigarette and shrugged. “I’m accompanying my wife on a business trip.”
Once he finished speaking, he snuffed out the remaining cigarette and looked indifferently at Naomi. “Get
in.”
Seeing this, Naomi turned back to Maximus. “See you later, Maximus.”
“Sure.” Maximus nodded before instructing his driver to follow Brendan’s car.
Naomi got in the Maybach, and Brendan turned to her sarcastically. “You seem close to Maximus.”
Naomi glanced at him. “I didn’t know he was here. Lay off.”
As they were having dinner with Maximus later, Naomi didn’t want the latter to see how tense her relationship with Brendan was, even though this wasn’t entirely a secret by now.
Naomi’s words made Brendan light another cigarette silently.
Before long, the group arrived at a nice restaurant in the area. Brendan instructed the waiter to bring two. boxes of beer and a bottle of white wine. He hadn’t spoken to Naomi since her explanation earlier.
Naomi couldn’t quite figure out if Brendan was silent because he was reminded of Sophia when he saw Maximus or if it was because of Maximus meeting her.
When Ryan saw the amount of alcohol Brendan ordered, his face fell. “You shouldn’t drink, Mr. Martin.
Maximus chuckled. “I can’t possibly leave Brendan hanging.”
Brendan was amused by this. Naomi knew she couldn’t persuade him, so she didn’t bother speaking up.
When the walter started serving the food, Brendan filled their glasses. Years of not meeting had ensured the conversation flowed, and the amount of drinks they had also increased,
After finishing a box of beer, Maximus didn’t look too good. Naomi advised, “That’s probably enough.”
Chapter 129
But Brendan ignored Naomi and filled Maximus’s glass again. “This one’s to Sophia.”
Hearing Brendan mention Sophia, Naomi turned to him silently.
She thought Brendan had been ignoring her because he misunderstood her sneaking here to have an affair with Maximus. But it turned out he was reminiscing about Sophia.
Seeing the full glass, Maximus turned to Naomi. Compared to a toast in memory of his deceased sister, he felt he should consider Naomi’s feelings more.
Seeing Naomi’s indifferent stare at Brendan, Maximus raised his glass. “Brendan, the past is in the past.”
He initially wanted to persuade Brendan to focus on his life with Naomi. But it seemed like his comment would expose the fragility of Brendan and Naomi’s relationship. Hence, Maximus decided to keep his
mouth shut.
