The real estate agent had filtered some local listings according to Camila’s preferences. The options all seemed promising, so they went to view the properties together.
The first place was in a nice neighborhood. Camila checked her GPS and noted it was just a half-hour walk from Connor’s Cedarhill Estate.
The landlord, a local, middle-aged woman with curly hair, had received several properties from a redevelopment project. She opened the door to reveal a studio-style apartment that seemed decent despite its old furniture and scratched walls.
“The decor here is a bit dated, so the furniture and fixtures have seen better days,” the landlord explained. “But the place is clean, rest assured.”
Camila nodded, looking around. The natural light was quite good.
“The rent is $1,000 a month. The first and second payments are required upfront. If you’re okay with it, we can go ahead and sign the lease,” the landlord said, eyeing Camila.
Noticing Camila’s hesitation, she added, “The previous tenant just moved out, and I’ve had several viewings booked today. This place is in high demand. A quick paint job, and it’ll be ready to be moved into.” Camila smiled and walked to the balcony, where she could clearly see Cedarhill Estate.
“The luxury Cedarhill Estate is just ahead. The rent isn’t bad for this location,” the agent whispered to Camila. “While living here, you might even bump into a millionaire.”
Camila laughed helplessly. She was quite pleased with the apartment, but the rent was over her budget. “I need to look around more and compare other places.”
“That’s fine. I have plenty of listings,” the agent reassured her.
After chatting briefly with the landlord, the agent led them downstairs.
Once outside, the agent asked, “Ms. Camila, how do you feel about this place? I spoke with the owner, and there might be room to negotiate the rent, but not by more than $200 or $300.” “It’s nice, just a bit pricey,” Camila remarked.
John nodded in agreement. The rent was nearly half of his monthly salary.

After making a call, he continued, “I was going to show you a place at Belleview Heights. It’s developed by the same group as Cedarhill Estate and managed by their company, but the rent there is steep.”
Camila paused.
“How much is a one-bedroom there?” Erica asked curiously.
“About $1,800,” the agent replied with a raised eyebrow.
“Wow, that’s expensive!” Erica exclaimed.
“People living there are mostly industry leaders, CEOs, and even celebrities,” the agent boasted.
“And what about a four-bedroom?” Erica inquired further, curious about the rent for Connor’s apartment.
“A four-bedroom?” the agent
chuckled. “That’s a condo-style

residence. The biggest they sold originally was a three-bedroom, heard there are a few four-bedrooms that weren’t publicly listed, and I’m not sure who lives there.”
Camila remained silent, surprised.
“Is that scumbag that rich?” Erica, not wanting to mention Connor by name in front of Camila, referred to him as ‘scumbag.’
“I don’t know much about him,” Camila admitted.
Honestly, the more she learned about Connor, the more she doubted that his company, Future Inc., made enough to support his lavish lifestyle.
“Erica, he’s Rita’s brother, and his last name is Passos. Could he be connected to the Passos Corporation?”
