Chapter 34
Abby shivered instantly as it had been a long time since she last heard this voice of Summer which indicated that she was about to go berserk. “Mommy,” Abby said.
Just as Summer was about to fly into a rage, Abby threw herself into her arms and said, “Mommy, I missed your so much. You have no idea how scared I was just now.”
“Scared?” Summer asked as she smirked. “You seemed pretty chill just now.”
Abby immediately lifted her head and looked at Summer with teary eyes. She pursed her lips and choked out, “No. I was really scared.”
Summer thought, “Losing track of Ballard does make her a little uneasy, but there’s no way that she’s scared.”
She knew her daughter’s temperament, but as she saw Abby’s tearful look, she immediately turned soft-hearted and said, “Alright. Let’s just leave here.” She then pinched Abby’s nose and sternly added, “I’ll have a serious talk with you when we get back.”
She then turned and glared at Ballard, saying, “And you too.”
Ballard immediately touched his nose, feeling somewhat awkward as he thought, “Why did Mommy instantly recognize that I’m not Sanford? I clearly did a really good job pretending to be him just now.”
When Summer left the backstage with the two kids, Sanford happened to arrive. As he heard the serva n t s calling Ballard “Mr. Sanford”, he quickly moved and hid in a nearby room.
He almost gave himself away, and he walked out of the room only after seeing the three of them leave. Unexpectedly, he happened to run into the serv a n t who saw Ballard earlier.
“Mr. Sanford, didn’t you just leave?” the serva n t said, looking shocked. “And your clothes…”
Sanford frowned and said, “So darn annoying. I just changed my clothes. Is there a problem with that?”
The serv a n t quickly nodded, fearing that he would accidentally make the young lord in front of him angry.
“Do not tell anybody that you just saw me, or I’ll tell Great Grandpa!” Sanford threatened fiercely. “You should know the consequences of disobeying me.”

The s e r v a n t thought, ‘Oh no. I’m so scared.”
The se rv a n t nodded over and over again, thinking, ‘Mr. Sanford’s angry expression looks like Mr. Hill’s a lot…
“Tell me,” Summer said. “What exactly is going on?” She brought Ballard and Abby to an empty room in the corner, shot a stern glance across the faces of the two kids, and asked, “Why are you two here?”
Abby kept her head down and said nothing, only fidgeting with the hem of her clothes. From time to time, she glanced at Ballard from the corner of her eye.
“We just wanted to come over and join in the fun…”
Summer’s mouth twitched, thinking, ‘Is this the kind of place where you can join in the fun?”
She was about to ask more questions when suddenly there was a knock on the door from outside.
“Abby, it’s me.”
Η
Summer, alongside Abby and Ballard, had expressions as if facing a formidable enemy. It was only when they
heard Sanford’s voice that they relaxed.
“Mommy, don’t scold Abby and Ballard,” Sanford said. “I asked them to come.” His face was flushed. It was
evident that he had trotted over.
On his way here, he deliberately avoided the se r v a n t s at home, hiding and sneaking around. It was thrilling and
exciting.
“I told them there would be lots of delicious food and fun at the birthday party,” he said. “I also wanted them to sneakily look at Great Grandpa, but I didn’t consider things carefully…”

The little one’s voice became increasingly soft, appearing to have some sense of grievance and self-blame.
It was the first time Summer saw this side of him. She could not help but be stunned.
“It’s not Sanford’s fault,” Abby hurriedly explained, “It’s our own decision to come. Mommy, didn’t you say Great Grandpa was very kind to you in the past? Plus, he’s not well now, so we wanted to come and see him.”

Ballard, on the side, nodded his head vigorously, thinking, ‘No matter what, we can’t let Mommy know our real purpose of coming here. Otherwise, we aren’t just going to get some scolding.”
“Sanford, I know you meant well,” Summer patted Sanford’s head and said gently. “It’s not your fault. But don’t be so reckless in the future, okay?”
“Got it, Mommy,” Sanford replied.
Summer did not notice earlier, but now she realized that this was the third time Sanford called her “Mommy” today. She thought, ‘Does this mean that Sanford has already forgiven me?”
“Sanford, you are no longer mad at Mommy, huh?” she asked, her voice carrying a hint of excitement and
tremor.
During this period, Sanford was aware of all the kindness Summer showed him. At this age, it was the first time he experienced what it felt like to have a mother.
He had long stopped resenting Summer, especially after knowing about those things that happened back then.
“I just want Mommy to be with me in the future, along with Abby and Ballard,” he said in a very soft voice, yet the other three people in the room heard it very clearly.
“Don’t worry,” Summer said. “Mommy will never leave you again.”
Summer was moved to the point that she was close to crying. She held Sanford in her arms.
“Mommy, we want hugs too!”
Abby and Ballard rushed over as well. The mother and her three children immediately hugged each other into a
bundle.
“By the way, why were you on the stage just now?” Summer asked.
Abby briefly explained how she accidentally joined the club and helped out on stage. After Abby was done explaining, Summer furrowed her brows tightly again, thinking, ‘Lots of people noticed Abby earlier. What if Alick gets suspicious?”
“Don’t worry, Mommy,” Abby said. “I’ve already talked to Selina. She won’t mention this to anyone else.”

She blinked. This was her agreement with Selina. She would help on stage, while Selina would make sure that the troupe kept quiet about it.
Moreover, Abby did not reveal her identity. At most, Selina would assume she was a child of some guest.
Even if Alick were to realize later, he would not be able to find many clues from Selina.
These words eased Summer’s worries a lot, but it was still dangerous for the two children to continue staying at the old mansion. She needed to figure out a way to send them away, but with Alick’s people all around, sending the two children out under his nose without anyone noticing would be quite challenging.
“Mommy, I just thought of someone,” Ballard said as his eyes lit up. “Maybe he can help.”
In the front hall, Alick glanced at the empty chairs beside him, his eyes turning slightly serious.
“Go find out why Sartford and that woman haven’t returned yet,” he instructed Bill.
A moment later, he abruptly stood up from his chair and headed toward the backstage.
A renowned domestic choir was currently performing on the stage. The drama troupe had already left the stage after performing the second piece. They were now in the dressing room and removing their makeup.
“That little girl just now is simply an angel. Her singing voice is as good as Helen’s.”
“Selina, did you get her contact information?” the excited dark-skinned man from earlier said. “Maybe we can
sign her up.”
Selina shook her head. A hint of regret then flashed across the eyes of the dark-skinned man as he thought, “That child is indeed a promising talent. What a pity…”
“Keep your lip tight about what happened earlier,” Selina said with a rather firm tone. “I’m sure all you people know that the drama troupe will be seriously affected if this gets out.”
The incident happened suddenly. However, if the incident of Abby standing in for Selina to sing were to spread, it would certainly affect the reputation of the drama troupe. None of them wanted to see this happen.
“It’d be great if that angel were truly one of the actors in our troupe. Then, we wouldn’t have to…”
Before he finished talking, Clark entered the dressing room with a few servan t s. Following them closely was a
