Chapter 451
*Jenna!*
Sherilyn never expected Jenna’s reaction to be so explosive.
“What’s going on here?”
Sophia was equally taken aback by the severity of the mother–daughter squabble.
She rushed over to console Sherilyn. “It’s wrong for Jenna to accept gifts, but it’s not worth falling out over, especially over a stranger. She’s still so young, talk to her gently.”
“You’re right.”
Sherilyn felt at a loss; she realized she had been too hasty. Why take out the frustrations she had with Gilbert on Jenna?
After calming herself, she knocked on Jenna’s door, “Jenna, can Mom come in?”
Pushing the door open, she found Jenna buried under her blanket on the bed.
Sherilyn approached with a smile, “Jenna, it’s Mom. I’ve come to apologize.”
Jenna peeked out from under the blanket, revealing her big eyes.
“I’m sorry, Jenna.” Sherilyn pursed her lips, her eyes slightly teary. “It was Mom’s fault, I shouldn’t have been harsh. Can you forgive Mom, please?”
“Mommy.” Jenna’s voice was soft as she leaped into her mother’s arms.
The bond between mother and daughter, how could it be broken overnight?
“Mommy, don’t be mad at Jenna, I get scared!”
“I’m sorry.” Sherilyn was filled with regret. “It was my fault, I won’t do it again.”
As they embraced, Sherilyn gradually calmed down.
After some thought, she gently asked Jenna, “How did you meet that man, sweetheart?”
“At Crestwood.”
Jenna tilted her head, recounting how she was bullied by other kids at Crestwood Hospital and how the man had stepped in to help her.
Sherilyn was taken aback… so it was that early?
Was their meeting destined by some unseen force?
Jenna.” Sherilyn stroked her daughter’s hair, “Do you like him a lot?
added vigorously without hesitation, “I do.”
“Why?”
“Because he’s nice to me.*
Sophia, who had come to check on them, couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re just a kid. What do you know about someone being nice to you?”
“Mommy!” Jenna defended Gilbert fiercely, “And, and, he’s very handsome!*
“Oh my!” Sophia chuckled, “Look at you, already judging by looks! So a handsome face means a good person?”
Jenna was on the verge of tears, her big eyes shimmering, “Mommy, please believe me, he really is a good person!”
“Alright, alright.”
Sherilyn nodded helplessly. “Mommy believes you.”
“Sophia!”
Jenna gave Sophia a triumphant glance before snuggling closer to Sherilyn, “Mommy is the best.”
“Yes, yes, your Mommy is the best”
Seeing them reconcile, Sophia was relieved and went back to her chores, content.
That night, Sherilyn stayed with Jenna.
She looked at the neatly arranged Minnie Mouse hair clips on the nightstand and the red Minnie Mouse toy in the toy cabinet…
Sherilyn sighed silently to herself.
Gilbert, when purchasing these items, had no idea he was buying them for his own daughter.
Was this the peculiar nature of blood ties? Despite not knowing each other’s identities, there was an inexplicable bond between father and daughter.
Closing her eyes, Sherilyn recalled the way Gilbert looked at Jenna in the park….
That simple, genuine affection and tenderness couldn’t be faked.
Turns out, her Jenna could also be cherished and held closely by her father.
