Chapter 699
Next, Rhett tried to contact Frederick, only to receive no response. He contacted another two people, but the result was the same.
Assuming that they were facing problems on their sides, Rhett decided to initiate plan C.
Even if it meant ruining the banquet, he couldn’t let Hera reveal what happened that year.
At the same time, Linda was yelling at the walkie-talkie in the broadcast room, “Shoot her! Kill her now!”
The sniper received the order and aimed at the back of Hera’s head. Right when his finger was going to squeeze the trigger, a bullet suddenly flew over from the side and blew up his head!
A loud sound echoed at the same time. Someone kicked open the door, and the glass windows were shattered due to outside force.
From the door and the windows, two groups of armed forces flooded the room.
Those were Linda’s men!
“Kill her!” she ordered in Terranish before quickly fleeing from the room.
The people at the entrance quickly brought their arms upon hearing the order. Alarmed, Hera quickly hid in a
corner.
Suddenly, a figure rappelled down from the window and redirected their aims with a kick. The bullets flew at the ceiling, sending dust and debris down.
Chaos surged, and the gunfire didn’t stop in the room.
Suddenly, a loud explosion rocked the floor vigorously. Hera failed to catch her balance and didn’t have time to find cover.
As the flames were about to devour her, a tall figure rushed over and protected her with his body from the blast and shockwave.
Her ears were buzzing because of the shockwave. She even felt like vomiting because of the smoke and burning debris.
She quickly pushed the man away, not knowing if he was a friend or a foe. When he propped himself up, those eyes made her stop resisting.
“I’m here. Don’t be afraid.” He carried her, dodging the bullets and hiding under a table far from the entrance. Hera’s heart pounded hard against her chest due to the blasting gunfire. Her mind went blank, but she somehow felt safe while holding his hand tightly.
“Are you alright?” Bernard wiped the dirt off Hera’s face.
She nodded her head. When she was going to say something, she coughed instead due to the smoke.
However, she muffled her cough until her eyes became watery in case it would attract the enemy’s attention.
He burriedly removed his filter mask and put it on her. She took a few deep breaths before finally catching her breath.
“Why are you here?” Hera could tell that he had made preparations beforehand. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to prepare the equipment within such a short time.
“They hired mercenaries for a rebellion. It’s kind of complicated. Stay here. Don’t come out. I’ll come to get you later,” he cooed into her ear.
As soon as he finished, another explosion shook the building. It seemed like parts of the building had collapsed due to the tremendous shockwave!
Bernard quickly shielded Hera with his body under the table. They hugged each other tightly as if not even the end
of the world could do them apart.
When the shaking subsided, gunfire resumed. Fortunately, the couple was fine because they took cover under the table.
He let her go, preparing to go out. That was when she felt her hands were clammy. She looked down.
It was blood!
She lifted her gaze, only to realize that his left arm was grazed by a bullet. That part of his clothes was torn, showing his bloody wound.
It wasn’t that obvious because he was wearing black.
She pulled him back. “You’re hurt. Let me stop the bleeding first.”
He eyed the wound on his left arm. “Don’t worry. It’s not a big deal.”
At that moment, Aaron’s anxious voice could be heard through his earpiece.
“Bernie, don’t kill these mercenaries. They have bombs on them! The bombs are connected to their hearts. Once their heartbeats stop, they’ll explode. Find Hera and get the hell out of there!
“They planted a time bomb in the broadcast room. The emergency exit on the second floor has collapsed. The building might collapse at any moment.”
