Chapter 672
“You probably don’t know that Mr. Killian has a mental health condition, right?” Felix asked.
Hera frowned a little and shook her head. She knew nothing of it.
All she knew was that she had cured Bernard of the severe chronic headaches he started experiencing after getting poisoned long ago. As for any mental conditions he had, he probably was just way too possessive of her
Felix instantly got his answer from Hera’s reaction. ‘It’s dangerous for you to continue staying by his side.” “What’s wrong with him?” Hera asked.
“He should’ve told you about this,’ said Felix as he took out a tablet from his briefcase and opened a report for her to read.
“About 16 years ago, Mr. Lucius asked my mentor, Sage Villin, to diagnose Mr. Bernard and give him therapy. At that time, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and paranoia.”
Although the report was in Terranish, Hera had no problem reading it. The causes of the mental conditions included a drastic change in the patient’s environment, exclusion, the lack of sense of security, existential crisis, and others.
Her heart broke for Bernard as she scanned the report. Sixteen years ago, he had just been taken to the Killian residence. She knew that the Killian family didn’t treat him well back then, but she didn’t know that his life was so horrible that he became like that.
“His condition improved a lot after you, Mr. Lucius’ daughter, was born. When Mr. Bernard turned 12, his condition changed from severe to mild. He recovered really well. Sage even said that you were Mr. Bernard’s antidote.”
Felix knew a thing or two about Hera’s complicated background from Johnson.
Hera’s eyes fell on the ring on the ring finger of her left hand, and the words Bernard spoke to her last night replayed themselves in her mind, making her heart beat heavily.
“Something happened to the Killian family later on, and you went missing.’ Felix continued, “Mr. Bernard’s condition worsened after that. Sage spent quite a lot of effort to stabilize his condition.
“Sage has always been following up on Mr. Bernard’s condition. A follow-up is needed every two to three years. The last time Mr. Bernard had a check-up was last year, but he didn’t see Sage. Sage is old and couldn’t meet Mr. Bernard in person, so he handed this case over to me.
“Sage wishes for me to stay updated about Mr. Bernard’s condition even after he passes.”
Hera went through the report. It was as Felix had described. No medication prescription was recorded for the past few years because Bernard’s condition was stable. The last follow-up was four years ago.
Felix took a sip of coffee and asked, “Does he display any extreme behaviors?”
“He’s very possessive,’ Hera blurted. It was the first thing that came to her mind.
It was as Felix had expected. “That doesn’t come as a surprise. It’s a sign of a recurrence. He might be suffering from a relapse already.”
Hera’s frown deepened. So, that was why Bernard seemed especially possessive and overprotective of her lately. He was sick
“Ms. Youngworth, for your safety, I suggest you leave him as soon as possible,” Felix told her, his tone sincere.
With her right hand, Hera caressed the ring on her left hand. A while later, she said, “His condition will stabilize as long as he gets therapy, right?’
She was willing to accompany him to therapy.
“Yes,” said Felix. ‘But he has already become too possessive. Yesterday afternoon, he pointed a gun at me and
threatened me to tweak your memories.”
Hera’s jaw dropped. She couldn’t utter a single word.
Felix carried on, “It’s the main reason I wanted to see you today. Mr. Bernard’s condition is pretty bad these days. I’m worried that he might harm you.”
Hera still found it hard to believe. She muttered, “He had you tweak my memories?”
The part of the past she was trying so hard to remember had actually been altered! That was why she felt as if she had forgotten something!
That fragment of memory might have been significant in uncovering the mystery behind the person who framed Lucius! How could Bernard simply ask someone to alter her memory like that?
