“It’s complicated,” Yvette answered, feeling embarrassed.
Aaron didn’t press further. “It’s okay. You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to.”
“Okay.”
“I’ll head back now. Remember to bring Zac and Noah along next time.” Zachary and Noah both liked Aaron. Aaron, too, enjoyed spending time with the two kids. Yvette nodded. “Sure.”
After watching Aaron leave, Ray got out of the car and walked over to Yvette to inform her that there was news.
“If the information I’ve gathered is correct, the person who kidnapped Zachary is closely connected to Zoey Yandell.”
“Zoey?” Yvette’s pupils contracted slightly.
She had considered the possibility, but Zoey was, after all, related to her by blood. Besides, Zoey hated her was only because she and Jeremiah had met a few times. “Are you certain?” Yvette asked.
“I found out that the person Zachary drew in his picture is named Derek Blade, who is a close associate of Gemma Zelnik’s. He has already fled the country,” Ray replied. Gemma…
Yvette recalled the threats Gemma had made a few days ago.
“I see. Let’s keep this under wraps for now.”
The Zelnik family had the power to take a child and make sure the Shaw family couldn’t find them overnight. At this moment, Yvette knew she was no match for Gemma.
Even though she knew that Gemma was responsible for what happened to Zachary and herself, there was nothing she could do about it.
“Understood.” Ray nodded.
It was better to keep things quiet for now rather than let their opponent know what they had uncovered.
Like Ray, the Lanes and the Shaws soon traced the situation back to the Zelnik family. However, since the Zelnik family and the Lane family were connected by marriage, they couldn’t afford to fall out with each other. Since the boy was unharmed, they had no grounds to take action against the Zelnik family.
…
Clifford advised Xavier not to do anything rash. He then contacted Gemma, warning her to behave herself. Otherwise, there would be no mercy next time.
Though Xavier was reluctant to just let things go, he knew that with the new company still in its early stages, now was not the time to confront Gemma. Gemma was Jeremiah’s future mother-in-law. One day, Xavier would have to face off against both of them.
After returning home, Xavier decided
not to tell Yvette what he had found
out, lest she start to worry. What he didn’t know was that Yvette was already aware of everything.
“So, what did you have for dinner with your friend today?” Xavier asked casually, trying to probe.
“Just some food,” Yvette replied. Her answer was as good as no answer at all.
Noah noticed that his bastard father was curious about who Yvette had met that day. After Yvette left the table, he whispered to Xavier, “Mr Xavier are you curious about who Mom had dinner with today?
“You want to know, don’t you? You’ll have to beg me to tell you,” Noah taunted with an expression that made it look as though he were asking for a beating.
Xavier raised an eyebrow. “Who was it?”
As much as Xavier wanted to teach the child a lesson, he restrained himself, knowing Noah might run off to complain to Yvette.
He continued eating, and Noah began to lose interest in teasing him.
“If you just say ‘please’, I’ll tell you.”
Xavier ignored him, much to Noah’s frustration. “If you don’t want to say ‘please’, you need to at least show that you want to know the answer!”
Xavier seemed to catch on to what Noah cared about, but he deliberately continued to ignore him.
“I don’t want to know anymore.” Xavier stood up. “I’m full.”
Noah was stunned-this wasn’t how
he had planned for things to go. He thought he could read people well, but for some reason, he couldn’t figure out what his bastard father was thinking.
“Mr. Xavier, don’t go! I’ll tell you! Mom met a famous celebrity today. He’s super handsome, I’m telling you!”
Xavier paused mid-step. He turned back around. “What’s his name?”
“I’ll tell you if you want to know. However—”
“Anything except begging you.” Xavier interrupted. “Name your price.”
