Yvette was a bit confused. “What do you mean?”
“Don’t play dumb. Why would Jerry call you ‘Yvvy’ in private?” Zoey’s eyes were filled with anger.
Yvette explained that they had known each other since they had been children.
Zoey, however, was not convinced things were that simple. “Tell me the truth. Are you trying to take Jerry away from me? Now that Xavier isn’t good enough, you’ve set your sights on Jerry, haven’t you?”
Yvette found her accusation ridiculous. She deadpanned, “I’m already married to Xavier. How could I possibly be trying to take Jeremiah from you?”
“Don’t think I don’t know you and Xavier have been having issues and are on the verge of divorce!” Zoey’s mind was in turmoil, especially since Jeremiah had called out Yvette’s name during such an intimate moment. “No one can take my man from me, not even if you’re Yara’s daughter! Just wait and see.” With that, Zoey stormed off in a huff.
Having long accepted that she and Jeremiah were never going to be together, Yvette didn’t take her words to heart.
Back in her room, Yvette started packing her things to return home. She was worried about Viola and Noah being alone in Sangine County.
Xavier was helping her pack when Yvette said, “Your brother just got engaged. Don’t you want to stay a bit longer?”
“No, I’ll go home with you.”
“Okay.” Yvette nodded.
They soon finished packing. Early the next morning, they bid farewell to Shannon and prepared to leave. As they drove out, snowflakes began to fall.
When they were at the gate, the driver suddenly stopped the car and rolled down the window.
Yvette saw Jeremiah standing in the heavy snowfall. He briskly walked up to the car and handed a bag to her.
She was puzzled. “What’s this?”
“A gift from the engagement party,” Jeremiah replied warmly.
Hearing that, Yvette took the gift without further question.
Jeremiah then said to Xavier, “Xav, I have something I want to discuss with you privately.”
With Jeremiah watching, Xavier held Yvette’s hand and uttered in a hushed voice, “Wait for me.”
Yvette didn’t want to give Jeremiah the wrong impression, so she didn’t pull her hand away. “Okay,” she replied softly, watching the two brothers walk to the side.
Without Yvette around, the subtle
tension between the brothers was no longer hidden. Jeremiah stepped at
on the snow and glanced back Yvette before slowly speaking. Xav, when do you plan on giving Yvvy back to me?”
Xavier’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “What do you mean by ‘giving back’? Did Yvette marry you and have your children?”
The implication was clear-they were married, and there was no such thing as “giving back”.
A flicker of coldness passed through Jeremiah’s eyes. “How do you plan to compete with me now that you’re blind? Let me be clear-I’m about to gain full control of Titan
Corporation.”
“We’ll talk when you actually get it.” Xavier spat, not wanting to waste time talking to Jeremiah. The latter
had always been a smiling
tiger gentle on the outside but
ruthless inside.
As Xavier walked away, Jeremiah took out his phone and sent a message to Yvette. “If anything ever makes you unhappy, tell me. I’ll always be on your side.” Yvette saw the message but didn’t reply. Once Xavier got back into the car, she set her phone aside and asked, “What did you two talk about?”
“Nothing much, just childish nonsense,” Xavier replied. Jeremiah might appear mature, but he was utterly childish.
Yvette and Xavier were married, and he was certain the baby she was carrying was his. There was no way he would give her back to Jeremiah. Some things, once lost, were gone forever.
