Mandy shook her head. “I’m not sure either. It wasn’t easy for our men to get these pictures. Mr. Xavier arranged for some men to follow Yvette, so our men couldn’t get close at all.”
When they’d tried to investigate Yvette and Zachary before, Xavier had found out about it. So, Shannon had been extra careful. The men she’d sent out didn’t dare to approach Yvette’s house anymore, either. When Shannon saw the pictures, she felt like there were a lot of secrets she had yet to uncover. “Keep on investigating. I want to see just how many secrets Yvette has.”
“Understood.”
…
Meanwhile, Yvette and Kiki spent a few hours with Noah outside. Since his body couldn’t take it anymore, they soon took him back to the hospital. They promised they’d take him home for special occasions. After leaving the hospital and getting in the car, Kiki couldn’t help comforting Yvette. “Once the baby is born, we’ll be able to get the umbilical cord blood and perform Noah’s surgery. After that, he’ll be able to grow up like Zac.”
Yvette nodded and touched her belly. “I wonder if we’re having a boy or a girl this time.”
“I hope it’s a girl. That way, you’ll have two sons and a daughter. I’m sure Noah and Zac would want a sister as well,” said Kiki.
Of course, Yvette wanted a daughter as well. However, she would love her child no matter what.
“By the way, what are your plans, Kiki?”
“What do you mean?”
“How are you going to deal with your father?” Yvette had a feeling that Kiki hadn’t gotten over Leonard yet.
Kiki leaned back in the chair and looked out the window. “I have no idea either. Actually, looking at you and Xavier now, as well as Zac and Noah, I’m wondering if I should listen to my dad. Maybe I should just find someone and get married too.”
“Kiki, you shouldn’t just get married for the sake of it,” said Yvette.
Kiki took a deep breath and said, “Isn’t that how it is for most people nowadays? Have you had any regrets throughout your marriage, Yvvy?”
“I did have regrets after marrying Xavier. But I’ve never regretted giving birth to Noah and Zac. That’s why I hope you’ll think about it carefully.”
Kiki shook her head. “Forget about it.
If you have regrets after marrying the person you like, then wouldn’t it be the same if I married someone I don’t like? At least I won’t feel sad about it.”
Yvette figured Kiki had thought it through and decided to stop trying to persuade her. After all, everyone had their own paths in life, and they just had to treat it as an experience totive through.
After they had dinner at home, Kiki decided to head back. Before she left, she hugged Yvette. “Yvvy, I hope we can both be happy for the rest of our lives.” Yvette patted her shoulder. “I’m sure we will.”
With that, Kiki finally left, albeit reluctantly. When she got back in the car, she called Michael. “Dad, I’ve thought about it. You can arrange a date for me now.”
After he said something to her, she hung up the call in a daze. Even when she opened the window and felt the cold wind in her face, she still couldn’t return to her senses.
Life had its own ways to turn everyone into the person they hated the most in the end. Kiki didn’t cry at all. Instead, she just felt numb.
It didn’t seem like the snow would stop in Sangine County. Yvette stood on the balcony as she
watched Kiki leave. At that moment, she felt lonelier than ever. She didn’t even realize it when Xavier
approached her.
“Why are you standing out here?” He walked in the cold wind and got closer to her faint breath, gauging where she was. Although he couldn’t see anything, his other senses were heightened. Yvette returned to her senses and turned around to look at him. “I was just watching the snow.”
