Worried that Mark might not understand what he was up to, Xavier added, “I don’t want Yvvy to think I’m lying to avoid the divorce.”
Mark immediately understood. It seemed Yvette was once again asking for a divorce. Xavier sure was using every means possible to avoid it.
Mark pulled out his tablet and began calculating. “Jeremiah only transferred Mr. Xavier’s shares and assets, not the debts. If Jeremiah doesn’t deal with the debts… Mr. Xavier previously ordered many acquisitions; the debt is estimated to be at least a billion dollars.”
Mark handed Yvette documents detailing the costs of the projects.
Yvette felt overwhelmed after seeing all the numbers. How many pieces of music would she have to compose to repay this amount? More importantly, why did she have to pay? She hadn’t incurred this debt. “Yvvy, don’t worry. I’ll work hard to pay it off.”
Work hard? With his job at the charity, he might never be able to pay off the debt in his lifetime!
“Regardless, I hope you resolve this issue as soon as possible, even if you have to contact Shannon or Jeremiah.” Shannon wasn’t like Yara. Yvette knew how well Shannon treated Xavier; she wouldn’t just leave him out in the cold. “Okay.” Xavier immediately agreed when he passed this hurdle.
Zachary had been secretly listening to their conversation. He couldn’t believe that his bastard father had no money.
After all, he remembered the huge sum of money he’d once found in Xavier’s private account. The set of numbers had been so long that he still remembered it vividly.
Zachary immediately retreated to his room to investigate things.
While he didn’t believe Xavier was out of money, strangely enough, there was no money in the account when he looked into it.
“Did my bastard father not only lose his memory but also become an idiot?”
He couldn’t help but worry about both himself and Yvette.
Firstly, he was concerned that if he got into a car accident in the future, he might inherit Xavier’s foolishness. Secondly, he worried that Yvette would suffer.
That evening, while Yvette and
Grace were preparing for the New
Year’s meal, Zachary approached Xavier, intending to have a
face-to-face conversation between
two men.
“Mr. Xavier, according to the law, if a wife is unaware of the debts, she is not required to repay them.”
Xavier had known that Zachary
would eavesdrop. “Yes, you know the law pretty well, but do you know how long a lawsuit takes? And do you know how ruthless debto
collectors can be?”
Zachary furrowed his brow. He looked just like a younger version of Xavier, though unfortunately, the latter couldn’t see that right now.
“Mom is not a weak woman like you think she is. Also, both Clau-Daddy-and I will protect her.”
All Xavier heard was “Claudaddy”. What kind of new word was that?
He didn’t pay it much mind. Instead, he leaned back in his chair and slowly opened his laptop, reading aloud a long string of letters.
It was Zachary’s hacker alias.
Zachary immediately stood up.
“H-How do you know—”
“I also know you secretly transferred 7.9 billion dollars from my account,” Xavier remarked nonchalantly.
“Did you regain your memories?” Zachary seemed to have found his leverage.
Xavier shook his head. “Mark told
me. I don’t need to regain my memories to know these things. What do you think Yvvy would do f she found out what you’ve done? Who would the police arrest if reported it to them?”
Zachary was shocked that Xavier would threaten a child.
He clenched his small fists. “No one would believe a child could steal money from a businessman.”
“True. They would look for the kid’s guardian. I wonder if your father would be willing to go to prison for you,” Xavier said with a smirk.
Zachary glared at him, wanting nothing more than to punch him.
But, driven by an odd impulse, he asked, “Would you be willing to go to prison for your son if he made a mistake?”
