Xavier stood at the doorway, looking at the familiar figure inside. Though it had only been a fortnight since he last saw her, it felt like an eternity. The bodyguards retreated, standing outside. When Xavier stepped in, the atmosphere in the room grew tense.
“I thought I made myself very clear,” Yvette said.
Xavier moved closer, his face obscured by the backlighting, making his expression unreadable. He said nothing as he stared at Yvette intensely, not looking away for a moment.
Uncomfortable under his gaze, Yvette took a step back.
“Matthew already gave you the money, right? We’re done,” she continued.
Still, Xavier remained silent, his deep eyes reflecting only her silhouette. He slowly raised his hand, but before he could place it on her shoulder, Yvette took a few more steps back to avoid his touch. Taking a deep breath, Yvette asked, “What do you want?”
Xavier’s hand froze in mid-air, his lips parting slightly as he spoke firmly, “I want you to come home with me.”
“Home?” Yvette laughed bitterly. “What home? Dewberry Manor? That was never my home.”
She was repeating the very words Xavier had once said to her.
Xavier had never imagined that Yvette would be able to wound him so deeply. Those few words she had uttered made him feel terrible.
“We’re not divorced!” he insisted.
“Only in name!” Yvette shot back immediately.
Xavier felt as if a massive stone was crushing his chest. Losing control, he grabbed Yvette’s shoulders, holding her tightly and staring into her eyes.
“What do you mean, ‘in name’? You were still in my bed last month! Do you want me to repeat how you screamed my name?”
Yvette slapped him hard across the face.
Her cheeks were flushed with anger. She refused to show her weakness. “Mr. Lane, you’re the CEO of a company. Don’t you understand what it means to put on an act? Or what it means to part amicably?” Putting on an act…
To think that Yvette’s every attempt to seduce him was just an act!
Xavier’s cheek stung, but the pain in as even worse. He l

He had never lowered himself so much.
However, Yvette’s gaze remained cold and firm. While some wounds healed with time, others were permanent.
She remembered the countless times Xavier had subjected her to silent treatment and she had loved without being loved in return.
Those experiences had crushed her spirit, making it impossible for her to trust any man or believe in love again.
“I don’t need you to promise anything. I just want you to leave,” Yvette replied.
Xavier’s grip tightened on her shoulder. His eyes were bloodshot. “You want me to leave? Over my dead body!”
He inched closer to Yvette, wanting to soothe her and apologize, yet he didn’t know where to start. He couldn’t even muster the courage to say, “I think I’ve fallen for you.”
Xavier leaned in to kiss her.
“Let go of me.” Yvette struggled to escape.
There was a commotion outside.
Suddenly, someone burst into the room and swung a punch at Xavier.
Xavier, who was caught off guard, had blood trickling down his split lip. He looked at his attacker-Claude.
Gone was the polished businessman; now he was all fury, throwing another punch at Xavier.
The two men quickly got into a brawl.
