Chapter 5 The Innocent Lady
After parting ways with Violet’s boyfriend, I proceeded to the mall and indulged in purchasing a collection of figure–flattering attire.
Once home, I directed Lewis to hire several full–time housekeepers for our residence to manage domestic tasks.
When Henry and I got married, both our parents suggested we employ staff for cleaning, gardening, and cooking. I had declined, thinking that showing love meant personally handling these chores. Now, I see the folly in that, punishing myself unnecessarily when we had sufficient wealth for such
conveniences.
Carrying my shopping bags, I was about to ascend the stairs when Henry came down from above, adjusting his cuffs. His presence meant I was likely to be summoned to a cocktail party soon.
“There’s a cocktail party in an hour. Your parents will be there too. Get ready to join me. Henry stated impassively.
“Okay.” I promptly went upstairs to dress.
Since my reincarnation, I hadn’t visited my parents, as it was my past actions that led to their demise.
Henry and I traveled in silence from the house to the car, our interaction as distant as strangers, which was exactly what I wanted.
Lewis drove ahead, with Henry resting his eyes in the back. I was busy on my phone, having added Violet’s boyfriend, Harper Neel, on WhatsApp, engaging in friendly chatter.
Harper and Violet were financially comparable. Henry, in Violet’s eyes, was wealthy, handsome, and successful. Similarly, I could portray myself as affluent and attractive to Harper.
In my previous life, Henry was with Violet. This time, I intended to outdo Henry by winning over Violet’s boyfriend first.
My plan was to leave this marriage, but not before giving Henry and Violet a distasteful lesson.
As the car halted at a red light, Henry glanced at me, commenting, “That outfit is too flashy for you.”
Still focused on my phone, I casually replied, “Henry, not everyone shares your preference for voluptuous women.”
I didn’t catch his expression, only his frosty response, “Ramona, with your slender build, intimacy would be uncomfortable due to your bony frame.”
“And?” I shot back.
Lately. Henry had been unusually talkative, albeit mostly in a disagreeable manner.
“Hilarious,” he retorted, his tone growing bitter.
As we arrived at the cocktail party, Henry and I assumed the role of a harmonious couple. After

mingling with a few acquaintances from the business world, I settled into a seat by myself.
Next to me sat a young woman who, upon closer examination, was the very same seemingly innocent lady recently in the news for being spotted in a hotel with Henry.
“Vera, why are you all alone here?” another woman approached and inquired of Vera Cortez, the seemingly innocent lady.
“I’m just taking a little break, Chloe. Why don’t you join me for a while?” Vera replied with a remarkably sweet tone.
I noted that Henry had an affinity for women with appealing voices. This was evident in Violet, and it was consistent with all the women he had allegedly been involved with.
As they chatted beside me, seemingly unaware of my presence, Chloe Miller playfully nudged Vera, “Isn’t that your Mr. Patterson over there? Aren’t you going to greet him?”
“Don’t be ridiculous, Vera quickly dismissed with a hint of irritation. “What do you mean ‘my Mr. Patterson? He’s married, after all,”
“His wife is practically invisible, almost like a ghost, right? It’s common knowledge that you’ve been close to him lately. Didn’t he even purchase a house for you?” Chloe’s voice carried undertones of and jealousy.

“Yes, he’s been quite lavish with me,” Vera admitted, a touch of pride in her voice. “I still don’t understand why he was so generous. I feel fortunate to have crossed paths with him.”
Henry was generous to everyone, except me, his wife in name only.
Every woman linked to him in a scandal had only praise for him after their split. Such was the power of wealth.
At that moment, my parents approached. Noticing me sitting alone, they asked, “Mona, where’s Henry? Why isn’t he by your side?”
Hearing the mention of Henry’s name, Vera and Chloe instantly turned their attention to me, their faces revealing a mix of curiosity and surprise.
Standing up, I affectionately linked arms with my mother, casually remarking. “Why bother staying with him? It’s all just business chatter. I’d much rather enjoy a lovely conversation with you.”
My mother appeared taken aback, as it had been years since I had shown such childlike affection Toward her.
As for my father, ever the straightforward man, he seemed oblivious to any underlying nuances in my behavior. He cheerfully announced, “You two have your mother–daughter talk, I’ll go catch Charles and the rest, and headed off to mingle with his old acquaintances.
