Chapter 23 The Awakening Of A Pursuit
Nestled on the outskirts of America was an old community, home to a family building erected in the late 1990s. It sat adjacent to a large, now–abandoned chemical plant.

In those days. Simon was employed at the chemical plant and was allocated a suite in the building.
A decade ago, the chemical plant ceased operations. It was then acquired by the Patterson Corporation, although it lay idle without any specific plans. The corporation intended to demolish the nearby buildings once a plan was formulated.
Capitalists, notorious for their greed, were no different. Henry, despite his fame and wealth, was a shrewd businessman. The compensation he offered for the demolition was below the standard rate. Yet, no one could have foreseen that he would become a benefactor for Violet.
As a representative, Simon met with Henry. He anticipated constant disagreements but was taken aback by Henry’s politeness and his decision to increase the compensation. Each family received a payout significantly higher than the standard.
This move both infuriated and touched Violet.
She was angry because the problem was initially created by Henry. However, she was moved by his willingness to pay such a hefty amount for her!
I sat in my car, gazing at the lights in the community, lost in thought.
In my previous life, I discovered that Henry had altered the demolition compensation plan. I had my father investigate it, and I learned a bit about the situation. However, I was unaware at that time that Henry was doing this for a woman.
Henry had been courting Violet for six months. After just half a year, he was head over heels for her.
I didn’t know the exact location of The Blues‘ residence, so I drove slowly around the small community. The lack of walls or security made it easy for me to roam around.
As I turned a corner, I spotted a familiar Bugatti.
Henry, clad in black, was leaning against his car, smoking a cigarette.
A luxury car and a handsome man. I put myself in Violet’s shoes. If such an irresistible man pursued me, showered me with money, solved all my problems like a knight in shining armor, and loved only me, despite my only advantage being my beauty.
I had a sudden realization that if I were in her position. I would not be able to resist his advances!
Violet was naive but not foolish.
Following Henry’s gaze, I identified Violet’s apartment window. In that building, apart from the lights on the first floor, another was on the fifth floor.
I dialed Henry’s number.

“What is it?” Henry’s voice was as cold as ever.
“Nothing. Just wanted to see if you’d answer my call, observed the man not far away through my car window.
As expected, he hung up.
I was taken aback. Henry, who was usually engrossed in gazing affectionately at Violer’s house, had taken the time to answer my call.
After å sigh. I drove away.
Upon reaching home, I found the maids had finished cleaning. Amber was the last one to finish and seemed to be waiting for me.
“Mrs. Patterson!” Amber greeted me nervously upon my arrival.
I placed a bunch of meals on the table and asked gently, “What’s the matter, Mrs. Velma?”
Amber looked at me nervously, her face flushed with embarrassment. “When I was cleaning your bedroom, I accidentally broke one of your skincare products. I’m sorry. I’ll compensate you.”
“Which one?” I asked.
She quickly pulled out a packet of paper from her pocket. Inside were fragments of the bottle. It was Jenny Brown’s softening water, which cost nearly 9 thousand.
Amber’s monthly salary was insufficient to cover the cost.
Looking at her humble demeanor, I felt a strange sensation. This ordinary woman would be Henry’s mother–in–law in the future. She earned a meager salary through hard work but would become wealthy because she had a beautiful daughter.
My family had been involved in politics, and the Pattersons had been in business for th

for three generations.
“Forget it. I’ve used more than half of that bottle. Just be more careful ne
time.” I felt inexplicably weary. Recalling the image of Henry gazing silently at The Blues, I even thought this world was an
unreal illusion.
Amber thanked me, her face a mix of gratitude and guilt, I got up without a word and went upstairs to
TEST.
After a shower, I lay on the bed with a mask on, playing with my phone when the bedroom door opened. It was Henry.
“Your parents have already left. There’s no need to keep up the act. I watched Henry approach and reminded him in a muffled voice.
“I know.” Henry took out his pajamas from the closet and left without a backward glance.

Elly’s call woke me up. I answered the phone groggily “Elly, what’s up?”
“Remember the concert gig I mentioned? We need a cellist! Are you interested?” Elly asked excitedly.

Upon hearing that, I instantly woke up. “Yes, I’m in!”
It didn’t matter if the gig didn’t pay. My goal wasn’t to make money but to enrich myself and move closer to my dream.
Elly responded cheerfully, “Great, I’ll send you the time and location later! Be there on time!”
“Okay” Lagreed.
a message from Elly. The concert was to be held at my alma mater,
After hanging up. all, in three days.
America University
The concert was a task assigned by the America University Department of Music. It was open only to graduates of the Department of Music. The aim was to welcome the first–year students, allowing them to appreciate the charm of music through performances by their seniors, and kickstart their university journey.
I hadn’t returned to America University since graduation. I hadn’t participated in any alumni events or made any donations. My days were spent trailing after Henry.
This was a new beginning, and I was excited.
To avoid any embarrassment, I embarked on a three–day intensive training session. Henry didn’t come home at night, so I spent my time from dawn till dusk in the music room.
I lost myself in the sound of the cello, and these three days were incredibly fulfilling. As I played. various songs, I found myself reminiscing about my past life.
Gradually, the sound of the cello took on a different feel.
In the evening, after a shower, I called Harper.
“Hello, Ramona!” Harper’s voice was loud, indicating he was in a bar.
“Harper, where are you?” I asked earnestly. “University starts tomorrow. Why are you still at the bar?”
Harper’s voice was barely audible over the loud music. “Ramona, I’m at work can’t talk right now! I can’t hear you!”
I immediately hung up and chose to send a text instead. “Is the tuition fee not enough? You didn’t use the medical fee I sent a few days ago?”
Harper’s reply was prompt. “My dad’s medical expenses were insufficient. I transferred it to him.”
Without wasting time, I transferred 20 thousand to him.
I was conscious of my pursuit of a man. A master like Henry had shown me the way.
