Chapter 52
Suspicions of a Monster
Kade had been quiet. He joined me in the tub and let me lay on his chest while he poured water on my back with his hand. He stared off into nothing. His mind was probably working a million miles per hour. His body was tense but I couldn’t come up with what was bothering him. The monster? The trial I would have to go through? Was there more he kept to himself?
Later we wound up in his bed tangled in each other’s limbs. He held me tightly as if I was a rope keeping him from falling into a river of crocodiles.
“Tell me what’s bothering you,” I said.
“Don’t worry about it, baby. It’s nothing I can’t handle”
I smoothed the hairs on his thigh. “What if I can help
He chuckled. “You’re helping me now. Are you spending the night with me?”
“No, I shouldn’t.”

“Why not?”
I untangled myself from him and sat up to face him.
“I don’t belong here Kade, you do. I’ll be more comfortable at the quarters.”
“At the dark ugly quarters infested with rats?”
I raised a brow at him. “You know I heard it was the Sanders wolves that requested the omegas be kept so far away.”
He tucked his arms behind his head and turned away. That was a long time ago but it doesn’t change the fact. You should stay here where your mate is.”
“Speaking of mate… I’ve been feeling you. Often now.
Kade sat up now. He cupped my cheeks his fingers rested on my neck.
“What are you doing?”
“Feeling.”
His hands craved out my breasts before stopping on my belly.
“Feeling for?” I prompted.
“Anything. It’s good you can feel me.”
“I don’t want false hope it’s probably in my head.”

“Owolf’s waking up. I don’t believe you’re wolfless.”
“Would it be good for us if I had even a tiny wolf?” Sparkles of hope floating around in me.
“I don’t care if you have a wolf or not. I want you. Don’t care what anyone else thinks.”
He brushed back curls of red hair and smiled. “You’re gorgeous, who could anyone hate you?”
I shrugged and smiled. He tapped my nose and drew me into his arms again.
“There’s another reason you’re feeling me.”
“What’s that?”
“You could be carrying my baby.”
My heart slammed forward. “Please don’t say that.”
“It’s a possibility. Gabbie. Condoms aren’t our thing
Because you don’t like using them! A baby? Now? What if we don’t make it as a couple?”
“Gabbie didn’t I just say-”
“I’ve read enough books to know that parents do crazy things to separate their kids from a partner they don’t like and yours has already tried.”
“Fuck him. I want a lot of babies with you.”
I shook my head. So did I but not now when my mother had abandoned me and I was facing trial for attacking a Luna elect
“Where do I get a pregnancy test?”
“The nurse at McGregor Castle.”
My mission tomorrow was to get a test from the castle first thing in the morning. I gathered my clothes because I didn’t want to walk to the quarter after sunset.
“I’ll see you later, okay?” I planted a kiss on Kade’s lips.
“Yeah.
He pulled me back for a passionate, tongue–twisting fingers curling around his hair kiss. I broke the kiss or I wouldn’t leave.
I made it back to the quarters hoping I would speak to Emery but everyone was giving me the side eye again. I didn’t want to cause drama for her so I curled under my blankets after a quick cold shower. I thought it was better to be with my mate than here in a room full of girls who didn’t want anything to do with me.

As I waited on sleep to draw me in I thought about the mate bond growing between us and the

hated me and my only other friends could barely be seen with me. I was alone.
“Two minutes are up, are you going to check?” The nurse popped her head in the toilet.
I clutch the test tightly in my fist, hiding the result.
“I’m nervous.”
Η
The nurse, an omega smiled at me. “It’s better to know.”

“What am I going to do if it’s positive? I don’t have anyone.”
“What about the potential baby’s Father?”
I nibbled on my bottom lip. Kade, a Dad? He had battle season soon. He would have to face dangerous battles and put his life on the line.
“He’ll be there but it’s complicated.”
“There’s always an answer out there somewhere. Go on now.”
I slowly moved my fists. One line appeared and my heart nearly stopped. I moved the rest of my fist, expecting another line but there was none. I breathed a deep sigh of relief.
“Negative.”
“Well now you know,” the green eyed nurse said.
“Mind if I take this? To show my boyfriend?”
“Go ahead, sweetheart. I’m here if you need me.”
I left the nurse’s office with a weight removed from my already heavy shoulders. Kade rarely spent time at McGregor Castle so he must be at the gym or in his room. I bumped into a soft frame as I pondered Kade’s whereabouts.
“Ouff, I’m sorry,” I said.
The pregnancy test slipped and clattered on the floor.
Eva bent before me and picked it up. She scrutinized the test before handing it back. “You had a scare?”
Inodded, a tad ashamed.
“I’m sorry. I had one a few months ago. Gareth’s such an idiot he didn’t understand the gravitas of having a baby right now.”
“Kade would have been thrilled.”
“Exactly! Well, it’s better than them denying it though.”

“Yeah, it’s just complicated right now.”
“I have birth control in my room. I’ll give you some, the nurse is always out.”
“That would be amazing, thanks.” At least I wouldn’t have to worry about a baby for a while.
“Well, doesn’t this look cosy,” Harlow’s sharp voice shattered the moment.
I held the pregnancy test behind me.
Eva turned slowly and stepped in front of me. “Do you need directions to somewhere, girls?”
She smiled at her friends. Leiah scowled at us both. “Since when are you friendly with the cunt?”
“Don’t call her that. Gabbie’s cool.”
Low Eva?”
Harlow Scoffed. “You’re a bitch, you know Eva?”
“Totally.” Leiah slipped her hair.
Eva laughed. “Says the girls accusing an innocent person knowing full well you attacked first. I’ll gladly testify against you both. A taste of your own medicine wouldn’t hurt.”
Leiah barked.
You wouldn’t dare,” Harlow barked.
Eva wasn’t fazed she turned to me and nodded for us to leave.
“Wait, did you at least speak to the nurse about Brent Leiah asked.
“I was, but I have more important things to do. Eva took my arm and dragged me away.
“Is Brent okay?” I asked.
“Fine but we needed more information. The wolf was spotted again last night.”
“What? So it’s real and Brent wasn’t making it up?”
Eva nodded her features turning grim. “His story still doesn’t add up but there might be a rogue out there.”
