Chapter 48
Gabbie POV
Kade caressed my middle with his fingertips. His face pressed against my check and my body curled up. against his. No one bothered us last night. I was still in the lion’s den, but I didn’t plan on being a prisoner in the Alpha castle. If Alex hadn’t come to his senses, I wouldn’t be able to stay here. Would I be safe back home? Alex had more power there.
Kade tightened his hold on me and exhaled.
“I love this,” he murmured.
“I want to keep you here forever,” Kade whispered in my ear.
I rolled over and smiled at him. “We have to leave, eventually.”
He chuckled. “Is this you telling me you’re hungry?”
I begged my stomach not to growl.

“No.”
He kissed my forehead. “I’ll take care of it.”
“Are you going to take me back to the omega quarter?”
Kade rolled out of bed. Butterflies formed in my stomach as his back muscles relaxed. His big and solid muscles were a result of hours in the gym.
“No, I’m not.”
“What?”
“I’m going to take you to the shower first,”
–
He stood and stared at me on the bed. His eyes zoned in on me. I smiled and in an instant, Kade jumped on me. I hugged him between my thighs and rode my fingers up his
“What?” I whispered.
“You’re a tease.” He ran his nose down my throat.
I lifted my chest to his lips. His mouth found my nipple. I gasped and fisted his hair. His tongue attacked my right nipple. Kade’s body set me on fire. My body blazed with each caress and every kiss. I was lost in the pleasure he provided that the pain that appeared on my side caught me off–guard.
I cried out and pushed Kade back. “Ouch.”
He frowned and sat un. “What’s wrong?”

“It hurts, right here.”
I took his hand and put it on my abdomen. “It felt like something inside me poked me. It’s happened. before.
“It has? Is it getting worse?”
“No, but it was pretty bad when I was with Alex at McGregor castle. It was weird…”
“Weird how?”
“Because… I felt you, Kade. I felt you looking for me. That hasn’t happened before.”
He leaned forward and kissed my cheek. “That’s good.”
ப
“Huh?”
“Our bond’s growing. There might be traces of werewolf in you, after all.”
“Yeah?”
He pulled me off the bed and led me to the bathroom. He started the shower and hot water hit my head. The hot water was a welcome relief. Kade added body wash to his bath sponge and pulled me to his chest. He made circles on my back with the sponge.
“Did you feel me when you found me with Alex?” I asked.
“Yeah, but it’s good. The mate bond is a beautiful thing. You’re connected to your mate in ways you can never pair with another being. That’s why most wolf relationships last a lifetime and when they die, it’s like a first death for the wolf.”
“After my wolf didn’t show up, I believed I wouldn’t have that. Especially not with big bag Kaden
Sanders.
He laughed, “Here.”
He handed me the sponge.
“I need to go back to the quarters,” I said while Kade was in the closet.
“Why do you want to leave me so soon?”
“Because I don’t even have underwear! I need clothes!
He walked out of the closet in a white shirt and grey sweatpants. He hurled something pink at me. It landed on my lap.
“Is this underwear?!”
“You said you wanted it,” he shrugged.

“Gosh! Whose is it? It better not be Harlow’s?”
Kade held his middle and laughed. “It’s yours. I may have taken it. Who knew it would come in handy?”
My jaw dropped. When did he do this? How did I not notice missing pink underwear? Then it came back to me. The day I walked around the school without underwear. I grimaced. Kade smirked.

“Do you have my dress, too?”
“That’s a stretch, Gabbie:
He walked back to the closet. He returned with a black shirt large enough to be a shirt. Good enough He settled on the bed and opened a drawer. He pulled out a smartphone in a black case.
“You have a phone?” I asked.
“Of course, I do.”
I had a phone too when I got here. I didn’t understand how I lost it. That was my only way of communicating with my mom.
“Tristan, my mate’s hungry,” Kade said into the phone.
I gawked at him. What was he doing?
“I know you’ll need my truck and my cabin this weekend. Don’t take your time either.” Kade dumped. the phone in the drawer.
“Why did you do that?”
“Because you’re hungry.”
“Kade, I frowned. “Why did you tell Tristan where I was?”
“Tristan’s cool. We have an understanding. He helps me and I help him keep his fling with your friend a secret from his mate and everyone else.”
My blood simmered. Emery deserved a guy that didn’t hide her. She needed a guy who’d pick her first. Tristan didn’t deserve the amount of love Emery had to give.
Kade tugged on my shoulder. When I didn’t turn, he simply dragged me into his arms and locked me -in.
“What?”
“Alphas are just dumb sometimes. What’s the point of hiding the person they love? He’s clearly into her or else he wouldn’t be going to all that trouble. And you have a cabin? When did you get that? Anyway. Emery deserves a lot better
“Hey, I’m only hiding you because you don’t want to go public.
“I’m not talking about you. I’m in danger. Is taking an omega as a mate that bad? At least she has a

“Tristan’s girlfriend’s crazy,

He doesn’t want her to get hurt.”

I rolled my eyes. I hoped she realised her worth because she didn’t want to end up the Alpha’s omega. Not only would she lose a child, but she would also die because of the omega rituals. I shuddered just thinking about it.
“Hey, forget about it. Those are Tristan’s problems–he cut himself off. I bet he wanted to say ours were much worse. I didn’t need the omega rituals to threaten me there were so many people gunning for my head.
“Yeah, I know.” I snuggled into him.
Aside from everything happening at school. I had issues at home. My parents were on the run or event dead. I wasn’t sure.
“Kade? Can I use your phone?”
He picked it up from the dresser and handed it to me
“Thanks.”
I knew Mom’s number by heart. I needed her to pick up this call. I sat up so I could dial her number. My heart thundered with anticipation. I held it up to my ear. I squeezed Kade’s thigh on the first ring. Oh, my gosh.
I froze after the little click on the other end.
“Who is this?” She demanded.
My mouth was suddenly dry. It had been so long since I heard her voice. It was her, though.
“Mom… It’s me. Gabbie.”
The silence on the other end squeezed my heart. “Hello”
The call ended.
“Gabbie?”
She hung up on me. She didn’t say anything after I told her it was me.
“She hung up.”
“Try her again.”
I dialled the number, but this time, it didn’t ring.
“Forget it.”
A knock from the door made Kade get up. So she abandoned me. All this time, I thought something happened to her.

“I ran into problems. Give me your keys.”
Kade grumbled. “Fine.”
He handed the plate to me before rummaging for his truck keys in the drawer.
“Alex, man,” Tristan gasped.
I froze as my former best friend shoved Tristan out of the way..
“I knew you were in here.” Alex’s eyes narrowed on me.
Crap.
