Chapter 37

Katrina’s POV

At that moment, the music playing in the hall changed, and a classical song came on.

What was happening? Don’t tell me we are expected to dance,

I know it’s a ball, but still..

Everyone paired up, moving to the dance floor.

I watched the witch grab Silas’ arm with a smile on her face, pulling him to the dance floor as well.

“Would you like to have this dance, my lady?” Matthew bowed, stretching his hand out for me to take.

I turned to see Silas staring at me with a pinning faze but his hands were still around her waist

If you don’t want me to dance with him, then come and stop me

Without any other thoughts, I took Matthew’s hand and let him lead me to the dance floor.

Td like to let you know that I have no idea how to dance, “I said sheepishly.

“Luckily for you. I know how to. Just let yourself go and have fun, let me do the leading

Matthew placed his hand on my waist and the other held my hand.

I held his shoulders gently, still maintaining a safe distance from hirn.

“That won’t do, my lady,” Matthew said, pulling me closer.”

1 yelped in surprise, my grip on his shoulder tightening as the distance between us reduced.

His chest pressed against my breasts as he led me on the dance floor and I tried to control my breathing.

“You’re stiff, darling; let it go and enjoy yourself,” Matthew whispered, and I closed my eyes, leaning against his shoulders.

I had stepped on his feet a few times, purely unintentionally, but he didn’t seem to mind.

We were dancing to a slow tune and I was starting to get sleepy.

“Hope you won’t sleep on me, would you?” Matthew asked and I took my head off his shoulders.

The tempo of the ball music changed at that moment, a lively beat taking over the room as Matthew twirled me effortlessly.

“What’s happening?” I asked Matthew over the laughter coming from the people around me.

“We would change partners when the beat drops, Matthew said which further confused me.

Wasn’t this supposed to be a ball for prominent people in the business world?

My body moved with the rhythm and for a moment, I let myself get lost in the dance.

I wasn’t certain what to do or how to move my body but I let Matthew lead me.

It was easier to pretend that nothing else mattered at this moment except the sway of our bodies and the conversation around us 11:41

1 spun from partner to partner, the faces blending with each bear drop.

I never stayed with a partner for long and soon, I had lost sight of Matthew.

My gown swirled around my legs, the slit teasing glimpses of my skin as I danced, exchanged hands, and twirled again.

It was like a continuous cycle and soon I found myself laughing as I danced.

Who knew dancing was fun?

I never got to have this much fun while I was back home, and I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to have fun

But then just as I turned into the next set of arms, I found mysel pulled against a familiar chest. Silas.

My laughter froze on my lips as I met his stare, dark and brooding.

His grip on me was firm, possessive and he most definitely didn seem happy.

“Are you having fun?” His voice was a low murmur, but the sarcasm beneath it was unmistakable.

“Yes,” I replied, though the happiness I’d felt moments ago slipped away under his intense gaze. Why was he staring at me like I had done something wrong!

felt weird under his stare and I tried to pull back slightly, but his hand tightened on my waist. “Funny, Silas said, his frown deepening.

“I don’t recall giving you permission to talk to anyone. You’re disobeying my orders.”

Anger flared in my chest and I tried my best to keep my cool.

He dares?

After kissing another woman, flaunting it in front of me, ignoring me after bringing me here.

Now he has the audacity to tell me who I can and can’t speak to

It was hypocrisy at its peak.

1 clenched my jaw, swallowing the sharp retort that was ready to spill.

again.

“I didn’t think dancing counted. Maybe you should’ve made yourself clearer,” I said coolly, refusing to give him the satisfaction of seeing me riled.

His eyes narrowed, his grip on my arm tightening

“Don’t play smart with me, Katrina,” he warned.

“Don’t worry, I won’t make you feel stupid. You’re already doing that on your own.”

His jaw ticked at my sarcastic retort, his eyes blazing with anger

Without a second thought, I pulled away from his grasp, leaving him standing there as I smoothly slipped into the arms of another partner.

I didn’t look back, but I could feel his stare burning into me, threatening to set me ablaze.

.

The rhythm carried me around, my movements mechanical as my thoughts spun.

I had lost interest in the dance and was merely just doing it just because.

It wasn’t just Silas’ possessiveness that had me fuming; it was the fact that, after everything, he expected me to sit idly by while he toyed with me.
