Chapter 614 Can Not Lose Him

Josiah was hoping that Lysander would give him a look of approval, but he wasn’t too disappointed when he saw that her attention was directed toward Maverick first.
Maverick nouced their remarkably cold interaction and suddenly asked, “Can we change the room that has been arranged?”
Josiah immediately answered, “Of course, that’s possible.”
He believed he had been meticulous with his arrangement, but seeing Maverick raise a concern, he didn’t hesitate to retrieve the keycard to make the necessary changes.
However, Maverick waved his hand dismissively.
“There’s nothing wrong with Laura and my room. I just feel that Mich shouldn’t be staying with Lysa. Mich has often complained about feeling stifled while she was hospitalized. Now that she has recovered from her injuries and is out having fun, she’s been quite boisterous. I worry she might disturb Lysa.”
No one knows a daughter better than her father. He had perfectly grasped Michelle’s upcoming plans, prompting her to quickly explain herself, “Lysander, I didn’t stay up late just to have fun, I’m trying to keep up with my studies so I can find an internship later!”
Lysander smiled and reassured, “Dad, it’s okay. Michelle won’t bother me. Instead, we’ll get to chat more.”
Maverick subtly shot Michelle a knowing glance and softly said, “I was just worried that the two of you would get so caught up in chatting that you’d forget to rest, and that’s why I thought should separate you two. You’ve been working so hard, now that you’re on vacation, you must get some good rest. It’s decided, you should listen to me.”
Maverick’s approach to handling matters was as assertive as ever, but at that particular moment, Lysander no longer wanted to contend with it.
Thinking those words made sense, Michelle nodded and said, “Dad, you’re right. Lysander is tired enough, I shouldn’t disturb her rest. I’ll talk to Skylar when she’s back. I’ll hold on to this keycard for now,”
Without waiting for Lysander’s approval, Michelle swiftly grabbed the keycard and exchanged it with the one in Josiah’s hand, which was initially intended for Skylar.
She was rather smooth with her move.
Michelle spoke confidently, “Lysander, I had a great time chatting with Skylar on our way here. It’s nice to have a companion now that I’ll be sharing a room with her.”
She was brimming with carefree innocence, and it was obvious she was truly there for a good time.
Lysander hoped that Michelle could stay happy for a little longer, so hearing what the latter said, she readily agreed, “Sure, then. But you can’t stay out too late with Skylar either. I’ll check in with her, just so
you know.”
Michelle nodded repeatedly.
Josiah said nothing. He merely glanced at the room number on his keycard, and before returning to his room, he specially made a trip to the reception desk, requesting a switch to the room adjacent to

Lysander accompanied Maverick and the others to their rooms, making sure that everything was in order and all their luggage was delivered. Then, she tipped the bellboy and returned to her own room.
The rooms at this spa resort are slightly smaller than the ones at the resort under Guerra Group. Then again, the furnishings are quite erquisite, and it’s easy to tell they’ve put a lot of thought and effort into it.
With these thoughts, Lysander set aside a tip. But when she opened the door to her room, she didn’t see her luggage.
Could it be that the bellboy sent it to the wrong room?
She was about to head to the reception desk to enquire about the situation, but just as she opened the door, she came face to face with Josiah, who was all set to knock on the door.
The two of them were moving in different directions, one heading out while the other was inching forward. If it wasn’t for the luggage cart nearby, they might have collided right there and then.
Embarrassed, Lysander quickly took a half–step back, sizing up the luggage cart that seemed out of place next to Josiah. “S–Shouldn’t the luggage be sent by the bellboy? I remember you specifically arranged for Skylar to follow along. That’s how it was handled for my parents and Michelle.”
The luggage cart simply didn’t match his demeanor, and no matter how she looked at it, it just seemed a little weird.
Josiah’s gaze fell on the tip that Lysander hadn’t managed to put back into her wallet and quipped, “You can tip me, too.”
“You want it?” Lysander offered it to him. “Here you go.”
Josiah was both amused and exasperated. “Head in first and clear the way for me. I’ve single–handedly moved everyone’s luggage today.”
Lysander quickly cleared the way at the door. The tension in her body eased significantly, too.
“Thank you, you’ve worked hard. Actually, most of the people who came today are my relatives. There’s only you and Madam Susan from your side.”
Josiah chuckled. “Could I perhaps go inside before we continue talking?”
Considering that he was the one who moved her luggage, Lysander stepped aside to make way for him to
pass.
The most laborious task Josiah undertook the whole day was moving luggage. Despite so, he showed no signs of impatience while handling Lysander’s luggage and explaining things to her.
“The luggage should’ve been handled by the bellboy, but considering your obsession with cleanliness, I figured you might not feel comfortable sleeping on the hotel’s bed sheets. Also, you seemed preoccupied before leaving, and I’m afraid you might forget something, so I specially packed an extra set of fresh bedding in the luggage before we left this morning.”

As he spoke, he opened his luggage and pulled out a vacuum–sealed package. “You’re used to cotton fabrics. If you don’t need it this time, it won’t be too heavy to bring this vacuum–sealed bedsheet back
either.”
It was no wonder why his luggage seemed exceptionally bulky this time. It turned out it wasn’t just filled

with his belongings, but also Lysander’s. It was a rare, thoughtful gesture.

Recalling how distracted she was while packing her luggage, Lysander softly responded, “Thank you…”
As Josiah had guessed, she had indeed forgotten to prepare an extra set of bedsheets before she left the house this time. Nonetheless, instead of taking the chance to take credit or wishing for compliments, he warmly said. “You don’t always have to be polite with me.”
Lysander accepted the package and calmly replied, lowering her gaze, “It’s what I should do. You’re a lot. more thoughtful.”
Josiah noticed how she couldn’t contain her melancholy as soon as the elders weren’t around her and quickly comforted, “It’s true Mr. Thorne doesn’t look too well, but there’s no need for you to worry too much. There are medical workers on hand in this spa resort.”
Lysander’s expression was filled with unmistakable bitterness. “You don’t understand. Dad’s condition must be very severe. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have had such a drastic change of heart, let alone try to set me up with…
She glanced up at Josiah, then quickly turned her face away.
Josiah understood her concerns and gave a slight nod. “Yes, he used to be quite critical of me, but now, he seems to be the one most eager to bring us together.”
Lysander was too consumed with worry about Maverick’s health to dwell on her own problems. She hesitantly uttered. “I really can’t afford to lose him, let alone our family. I plan on persuading him to stay in the hospital once we return.”
“Lysander,” Josiah softly called out, “You told me before, you were once a doctor, so you know well what late–stage lung cancer is like.”
