The Charming Ex–Wife
Chapter 607 Human Hearts Are Inherently Biased

Howard subconsciously wanted to speak up for Josiah, but recalling the hardships Lysander had faced in the past, he immediately swallowed his words.
Human hearts were inherently biased.
Although he had watched Josiah grow up and had been a great help in his company, he still held a deeper affection for his biological daughter.
Molly wholeheartedly agreed with Maverick’s point of view. “Maverick’s got it right. Our little Lysa doesn’t have any experience in love, she could easily fall prey to a bad boy.”
Susan let out a dry chuckle. “I wouldn’t say she has absolutely no experience in love, she has been through some things, after all.”
Upon hearing this, Michelle was taken aback. “Madam Susan, you know about Zachary too?”

Susan was stunned. “Who is Zachary…?”
Laura explained, “He’s my close friend’s son. I’ve known him since he was little, and we’ve always been very close. I think highly of him–he’s dependable and forward–thinking, but…”
Susan’s face paled slightly. She glanced at her own son, only to see Josiah busily pouring drinks for Maverick and Howard, not showing any particular emotion.
Upon hearing this, Maverick quickly interjected, “Let’s not bring up the past.”
Laura nodded in agreement. “True, Lysa’s background has changed significantly now. The gap between her and Zachary is just too wide.”
Molly, on the other hand, seemed quite intrigued. “Honestly, if the boy is genuinely good, there’s no need to fuss over his family background. We’re not some old–fashioned household after all. As long as he treats our little Lysa well, that’s all that matters, right, Laura?”
Laura was just about to speak up when Maverick immediately furrowed his brows and interjected. “It has nothing to do with family background, it’s impossible for him and Eysa to be together.”
Molly turned to Lysander and asked, “Lysa, what do you think?”
Lysander’s mind was filled with images of small islands in the Pascal Ocean. She chuckled lightly and responded, “I don’t like him.”
It wasn’t just a lack of romantic feelings she had for him, what she detested even more was the character of Zachary himself.
After hearing these words, Molly could only relent. “You’re right. The next time you look for a boyfriend. you must find someone who truly appeals to you, someone who meets your heart’s desires. You can’t rush into marriage like you did the last time.”
“Yes,”
Throughout the entire conversation, Susan was at the side, listening. She also understood the hidden implications in Molly’s words.

On one hand, she was thoroughly interrogating other boys, and on the other hand, she was subtly bringing up her previous failed marriage. It seemed that she was opposed to the idea of her son becoming a son–in-
law.
But she was right.
They knew well enough how Josiah treated Lysanne since young.
Now that their biological daughter had returned, as parents, they felt somewhat uncomfortable about it.
Susan sighed, shaking her head in resignation.
She was close to losing all hope at the moment.
“Mom, would you like some grape juice?” asked Josiah.
Susan casually waved her hand. “I’ll just have water,”
“All right,” Josiah turned to Michelle. “Mich, pass me your cup, I’ll pour you some juice.”
Michelle was hesitant, not daring to move.
Her sister had just lectured her, it was best for her to lay low for now.
-I’ll
drink water too.”
Josiah was taken aback for a moment, his smile somewhat awkward. “All right.”
“Have some juice, haven’t you been asking for it every day?” Maverick pointed to the cup in front of Michelle. “Hurry up and pass the cup, don’t keep him waiting.”
Michelle carefully handed her cup over to Josiah. “Thank you, J–Josiah.”
Josiah chuckled, handing the cup back to her. “You’re welcome.”
Suddenly. Molly spoke up. “Oh right, I just remembered, isn’t the Johansson family’s youngest son serving in the military? Has he been discharged?”
Howard said, “It’s been over a year since he got back, but things has been pretty rough this year. Previously, the Johansson family even sent me an invitation to their youngest son’s birthday banquet. But you were ill, so I declined.”
“Birthday? If I recall correctly, the youngest son of the Johansson family is about the same age as Lysa, just three months older!”
“Correct, he’s only older by three months. When you were pregnant with Lysa, we even attended his hundred days party together.”
“Do you still have Peter’s number? Can you ask him later if his son is married? It’s always better when to know him inside out!”
Howard glanced at Josiah, rubbing his nose. “…This really isn’t our business. We should respect our children’s views. We know Archer well, but Lysa never met him. He’s practically a stranger to her.”
Molly seemed a bit disheartened. “You’re right. Alas, we missed out on Lysa’s growth, we don’t even know

if there are any suitable boys around her age in her circle. Maverick, Laura, we might have to rely on you
for this matter….
“It doesn’t necessarily have to be someone we, as elders, know inside and out,” Susan said with a smile. “In the end, it all comes down to whether the two of them can get along. If there were feelings from previous interactions, they might not necessarily be inferior to the new ones.”“
Everyone could tell what she meant by those words.
Molly chuckled softly, choosing not to respond. Seeing his wife’s demeanor, Howard could only sigh inwardly.
Laura was, after all, protective of her daughter. “It’s a bit unfair. After one setback, it’s like she’s lost a layer of skin. Any parent would be heartbroken for their child. But through hardship comes wisdom.”
Josiah found himself isolated and unsupported, a feeling akin to having a thorn on his back. With great difficulty, he spoke up. “Mdm. Laura, I’m not the same person I used to be. If you’re considering arranging a blind date for Lysander… perhaps you could consider me.”
The silence by the dining table was still so profound, it was almost intimidating.
Maverick wore a serious expression, appearing to be deep in thought over something of great importance.
“Regarding Lysa’s romantic dilemma, I actually have a suggestion.”
Michelle glanced at her father, then at her former brother–in–law, before leaning in to whisper to Lysander. “Lysander, has Dad already chosen someone? Who is it? Do I know him?”
“You do.
Susan was in a state of panic, yet she managed to brush it off and beckoned everyone to eat. “The kids are still young, it’s their time to build their careers. Besides, there’s no use rushing these things. Come on, everyone, dig in. The soup’s getting cold.”
If the conversation were to continue, it wasn’t certain that Josiah would let go of his thoughts. Instead, he might become even more fixated.
Howard also stepped in to smooth things over. “You’re right, let’s eat first and drop this matter.”
However, Maverick did not take the easy way out. Instead, he lifted his head, looking at Josiah with utmost seriousness, and asked, “Tell me, are your feelings for Lysander genuine?”
“Of course.” Josiah’s voice was filled with regret, his throat tight. “In fact, I realized too late that I genuinely care for her.”
A piece of asparagus Lysander had scooped up fell onto the table.
She pulled out a napkin, carefully wrapped the asparagus, and placed them on the bone dish. Then, she took another napkin and leisurely wiped the sauce off the table.
