The culture over there was relatively liberal. Men and women spending the night together didn’t necessarily imply any romantic involvement. They could even be in such a situation without knowing each other’s names.
However, Josiah was not that kind of man. It was precisely because he was a man of integrity that the presence of a girl by his side in the dead of night stirred thore curiosity.
Josiah’s voice carried an unmistakable sweetness as he said, “She’s not my girlfriend. She’s my wife.”
Josiah automatically omitted the fact that she was his ex–wife.
A gasp of surprise immediately echoed through the earphone.
The fact that a man like him had a girlfriend was surprising enough, let alone that he was now a married
man.
While his friends were happy for him, they simultaneously developed an interest in the love story between him and his wife.
Josiah simply smiled, neither offering any explanation nor expressing any opposition.
Thinking he was being mysterious, they promptly came up with a new idea, suggesting. “Josiah, the next time we go back home to report on our work, you must remember to introduce us to your wife.”
“Indeed! We didn’t have the chance to greet Mrs. Guerra just now. That’s not very polite toward a refined lady, is it?”
“Josiah, we can even get acquainted right now.”
Their enthusiasm was simply overwhelming.
Josiah contemplated what Lysander’s reaction might be upon learning of the situation. With a sigh of resignation, he said, “I can’t make any promises right now. She’s a person with her own mind, not someone I can easily persuade. In the end, it will depend on whether she’s willing to meet you guys.”
Upon hearing these words, the expressions of the people on the screen simultaneously turned to surprise.
-Before they could ask again, Josiah composed himself, putting on a serious face as he said, “All right; let’s get back to our previous topic. It’s already half past three in the morning here. If we don’t get this work done soon, I’ll be pulling an all–nighter.”
The regional heads, who were previously engaged in lively conversation, promptly adjusted their attitudes.
Lysander’s second sleep was even deeper than before, uninterrupted until the alarm clock sounded. In a state of grogginess, she reached out to turn it off, slowly opening her eyes to welcome the new day.
Josiah must have either already returned to the room next door, or was sound asleep on the sofa.
Seeing as he was still working at three in the morning. Lysander made a point to tread lightly as she left the bedroom. Unexpectedly, she ran into Josiah just as she stepped out. He was holding a plate of freshly baked bread, about to place it on the dining table.

“Did you mess with my wall clock again?”
“No, not at all.”
“So, you didn’t sleep at all last night?”
Josiah, donning an apron, responded truthfully, “I slept for three hours.”
“Lack of sleep can lead to sudden death.”

Josiah replied with a hint of mock indignation, “Dr. Thorne, are you really talking about death this early in the morning?”
“What I mean is, you were busy until late last night, so you should catch up on some sleep now. I can just grab something for breakfast on the way.”
With a serious expression, Josiah stated, “Breakfast is very important. It should be eaten properly.”
Josiah noticed her standing motionless at the bedroom doorway for quite some time. He first set down the toast he was holding onto the dining table, before turning back to urge her, “Aren’t you going to freshen up?”
“On it,” Lysander replied, as if she had just awoken from a dream.
The events of this morning were so fantastical that they nearly surpassed her wildest imagination.
Josiah making her breakfast at her place was something she had never even considered before.
Lysander walked into the bathroom as if she were sleepwalking, then began doubting her own eyes once more. She feared she might still be half–asleep, but the wave of heat that hit her face felt incredibly real.
The bathtub had already been filled with hot water in advance, even the toothbrush by the sink was prepped with toothpaste and laid across the mug.
Lysander vigorously rubbed her face.
“What have you-” she leaned forward to ask, but her words trailed off as she found herself locking eyes with Josiah.
“I filled the water and squeezed the toothpaste. You’ve been busy with work recently, so it’s only natural to save time where you can. Since I’ve been crashing on your couch, consider it as me working off my debt. You don’t have to feel bad about this,” he explained with an underlying hint of anticipation.
ust like the
that, he answered all of Lysander’s questions in just a few brief sentences.
“But I already washed up before I went to bed last night. If I need to wash again in the morning, a shower would suffice. I don’t have the time to take a bath in the tub.”
Josiah obediently nodded. “Noted.”
Taking advantage of the situation, Lysander stated, “I merely let you sleep on the couch for one night. If you want to express your gratitude, then you’ve done more than enough already. I’m perfectly capable of taking care of myself, so I don’t need someone looking after me so meticulously.”
She thought about the toothpaste she had squeezed out earlier and a wave of discomfort swept througs

Without uttering a word of dispute, Josiah acknowledged directly by saying, “All right; I’ll consider your feelings more in the future. Go ahead and freshen up as per your usual routine, then. Breakfast will be ready soon.”
Without allowing any room for discussion, he gently ushered Lysander into the bathroom. His touch was firm yet gentle. As he left, he casually closed the door behind him.
Upon hearing the words “in the future, alarm bells rang in Lysander’s heart. However, since she had already entered the bathroom, she couldn’t be bothered to go out and argue with Josiah. As she looked at the hot water in the bathtub, her mind was filled with the water conservation commercials she had seen on television.
Yesterday, a lot of food had already been wasted, leaving Lysander feeling terribly upset. As such, she simply couldn’t bear to waste a whole bathtub’s worth of water.
In the end, guided by her principle of not wanting to waste anything, she soaked in the tub for a brief
moment.
When she emerged again, her weariness had completely disappeared, proving that a bath was quite effective in relieving fatigue.
Meanwhile, Josiah had already prepared a table full of breakfast. There were two servings of each dish, all presented with the same tableware.
After giving it a quick glance, Lysander questioned, “We’re at home, not out somewhere. There’s no need for breakfast to be this elaborate.”
For just two breakfast meals, Josiah used about seven to eight plates.
Josiah was still wearing an apron, exuding a certain husband–like charm. He handed her a pair of cutlery and said, “I’m planning on installing dishwashers on both sides, to help lighten Martha’s workload.”
“As you wish.”
He had even brought up Martha, making it difficult for Lysander to dissuade him any further.
Josiah chuckled lightly, adding. “Actually, these utensils aren’t from your place. I brought them from
mine.”
Only then did Lysander notice, the number of bowls and plates on the table was indeed excessive. It was only due to their consistent style that she hadn’t noticed immediately.
Josiah understood what Lysander was thinking and calmly explained, “The tableware was purchased with Aiden’s help. He has never been here, nor has he seen your home’s tableware. It was entirely chosen based on my preferences. It’s probably because our tastes align in this aspect.”
“But I just bought them casually
“That’s fate, then.”
